Wood right at home with Albion
Monday 4th January 2010, 9:30AM GMT.
Albion teenager Chris Wood is keen to make the Hawthorns his long-term football home after celebrating his new contract with his second Baggies goal.
The giant New Zealand international penned a new long-term deal last week and followed it up with the second goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Huddersfield.
Wood was delighted to end a good week on a high.
He said: “It’s good to get it sorted and not have it hanging over me. It’s good to see that the club are willing to sign youngsters for a long period of time and it’s something I am happy with. It’s good to be rewarded for my progress.
“I was told at the start of the season that if I reached certain goals then they’d renegotiate my contract and they’ve done that. I feel settled. It’s a great club, I’m at home and I would like to stay here for a long time.”
But Wood is refusing to set long-term goals with the Baggies chasing promotion to the Premier League this season.
He said: “For now I am just looking at this season and at trying to get promotion. That is the main aim and if we can do that I can start looking at other seasons.”
