Albion assistant boss Eddie Newton believes Graham Dorrans is becoming a “complete” midfielder as the club celebrated the Scot signing a new contract.
The 22-year-old marked his improved deal by scoring his third goal in two games in Saturday’s FA Cup victory at Huddersfield.
Newton has been delighted with Dorrans’ progression this season.
The No 2 said: “I think he’s been fantastic. He’s acquitted himself really well and going forward he is always a threat. What he has also added to his game is the defensive side, like getting back in and tracking runners.
“It’s always nice for the fans to see what he does going forward, but for us as a team when he does his defensive role that makes him a more complete midfielder. He’s got a lot to learn still and it’s our job to keep coaching him and telling him little bits.
“But we’ve been very pleased with the way he has applied himself and dealt with all the situations put in front of him this season. He had a virus going into Saturday’s game.
“Graham showed a work ethic and belief throughout the game, so his performance deserved a goal.”
Albion were joined at the Galpharm Stadium by prospective new signing Gabriel Tamas, who hopes to receive a work permit and international clearance in the next few days to complete his loan move from Auxerre.
Newton said: “Gabriel is a technical defender. He can mix it and can do all the hard and dirty stuff that defenders need to do.
“But also he’s composed in possession and is able to come out and play. He also speaks very good English, which is a major plus.”
Tamas looks likely to make his debut at the Hawthorns on Friday, when Albion take on Nottingham Forest in a second-versus-third Championship meeting.
The 26-year-old has agreed to join on loan for the rest of the season.
