Duo will be a big boost
Saturday 2nd January 2010, 11:26AM GMT.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy believes Michael Kightly and Dave Edwards will be like two new signings when they return later this month.
The pair are due to be back in contention possibly for the Liverpool home game on January 26 after recovering from ankle surgery.
And the Molineux chief believes his squad will receive a major shot in the arm by their availability.
“We’ve got players coming back who will make a big difference to us,” said the boss.
“I would think Michael Kightly and Dave Edwards will be back in the third or fourth week of January, so that will make a difference.
“The little bit Kightly has played, he’s done well, and Edwards has put in some terrific performances.
“The day he got injured at Tottenham, he had a great game, he really was excellent. Andy Keogh will be another eight to 10 weeks from now.
“If we get those players back and added to the fact we’re getting better because one or two have found their feet and are more comfortable at this level, then we’ll be OK.”
McCarthy also hailed the displays of players who have come into the team recently, such as Kevin Foley, Andrew Surman and Michael Mancienne.
“We’ve had some terrific performances, such as Foley in that midfield role against Liverpool and Manchester City, when Surman and Mancienne played very well. It’s no fluke – they can play and do well.”

Although I never expected anything against teams like Liverpool or Man City; the worrying part is the failure to score upfront – People say that Mairhoffer has’nt set the world alight; but is he worse than Big Chris at holding the ball up/ first touch? and winning vital headers?
Does Ebanks Blake need too many touches to get in a shot – Is this down to coaching or the player’s own abillity?
Imv we badly need 3 to 5 Prem Proven Players and my fear is that the 3 M’s are afraid to ‘rock the boat’ with players wages – hence we have gone for the players we have
Gardner is rumoured to be on his way to Blues for 3.5m according to SSN – and Wolves have been outbid again
Can we manage the squad’s wages/ pay less and still achieve Prem status or are we making it more difficult for us to stay up by paying way below most teams in the Prem???
NB* You only get what you pay for!
Up the Wolves!

All the players quoted are not quite at the level required in the prem. Both wingers are not prem level and Keogh looks lost at this level. We have always known Foley and Mancienne could be very good and will be better for this season. Halford, Elokobi and Collins should never wear the gold and black again. Blake has got to get fitter and we need somebody who can pass the ball from midfield to our forwards. Also please, please, please sign a proper left back and no more center backs!!

Is this a hint that we are not going to make as many signings as we hope?

Do these people think fans are idiots. Foley was dreadful against both liverpool and city. Elokobi thinks he played well against city – he was so bad it was embarrassing. This patronising claptrap is insulting unless they actually believe it, in which case god help us!!

Oh ! for gods sake McCarthy….Kightly, while on the few occasions he played last season, and the couple of appearences he has made in the ‘big time’….he is just not good enough in this grade, he is finished, he is in fact an injury prone ‘dead parrot’ you would do him a favour in sending him out to a 2nd or 3rd tear club.
As for Edwards, nor bad on his day, but inconsistant, his future for me would be a ‘bench player’.
With these stupid comments and quotes being published in your name, its clear. even to ‘blind freddy’ that Morgan has seen the rubbish you signed with the money he gave you at the beginning of the season, and has frozen further funds to you in the January window.
I do feel a little sorry for you, a complete misfit in a team destined for the drop.
Kightly would be easily good enough if he could get his pace back that he had when he first signed. He hasn’t been the same player since Paul Robinson did him a couple of seasons back. He has lost confidence and can’t get past his man anymore. Dave Edwards is a championship player, at best a squad player in the prem. We desperately need 2 wingers, if Jarvis got injured then what? Halford was a complete waste of money-he offers nothing other than a long throw.

In other words this is the classic shorthand for forget any signings in Jamuary everyone, this is what we are stuck with!
It’s obvious we are still short of a couple of decent midfielders and a better quality forward to compliment Doyle. Sorry Sylvan but you obviously aren’t up to this level and we are desperately short of goals.

Foley WASN’T dreadful against Liverpool and Man City at all !!! (4 manchesterwolf) although I would prefer to see him back in at rightback where Zubar continues to give goals away.
I hope MM perseveres with Mancienne as the holding midfielder, I thought he got his defensive duties and his forward surges just right against the Scumbag Millionaires.
I hope the January targets include a dominant centre back and a goalscorer, ‘cos the goals against is starting to get worrying and we can’t go on firing blanks upfront. Maybe Kilgannon and Beattie could be the answers…..maybe not.
5 ally wolf. Frozen Funds ? I should go and have a sit down somewhere warm and thaw out, mate

I know we wolves fans are fickle but some of the negativity coming out of you lot makes me laugh, any three of the bottom ten can go down so were still in their fighting. Any of you wolves fans that are bored with all the negativity on these pages you should read the posts on the bbc 606 web pages as the bloggers on there are a lot more positive and i have to say more realistic. I dont think i,ve read a post that slags Mick off or the team for that matter. Good luck in the F.A cup on sunday boys..

Been waiting 4 the ITS LIKE HAVING 3 NEW SIGNINGS to appear.Of these 3 who is good enough for the premiership as an established regular?. AS for believing the current squad is good enough to survive then we are gonna have snow in Malta.Steven Ward and big George will never be top flight left backs,Central defence in its current format championship ( mid-table) at best.Midfield devoid of creativity Miljas excepted, and as for SEB,big Chris and The Hoff ( not being given his chance ) nuff said.
Seems that either Mr.Morgan does not trust MM with further expenditure or the club has issued a statement of intent completely devoid of ambition.

Kites will not make an impact this season he hasnt had enough prem time and Dave Edwards is simply not good enough,if McCarthy is hanging his hat on these two were doomed.

If we recruit like we did last transfer window we should not bother with 4million wasted on Halford and The Hoff, bargain basement doesnt work in this division.

I tend to agree with most comments here. I think our biggest problem though is that we really do not look like scoring from free play. Players seem to lack confidence and panic when they need to produce a quality ball or finish to score. Perhaps this will improve with time, but I tend to agree with #1 that you get what money buys. Look at Doyle, clearly our best player by a mile, and let’s face it, he cost more than anyone else. They need to splash some similar money to strengthen, if not now, then in summer if we stay up. They can’t keep playing every game like a cup final just to hope to grind out a draw. They’ll burn out sooner or later.

My goodness. The same old headbangers are on. We have not completed our activity in the market. In fact we have not even started, and some planks are already saying that transfer kitty is frozen and we are not going to buy anyone.
When has Mick McCarthy let us down. He may have made a few duff signings, but so does everybody. We are doing well in this league. FACT>

I can feel me blood pressure rising with afew of these comments, or was it that third pie I had with me chips, get down ya bugger.
I reckon we’re staying up with our current squad, though with a couple of quality signings we could push on up to mid-table. Alot will depend on the activities of the other clubs. Hopefully the likes of Pimpey and the ‘Ommers will sell players, dooming themselves to relegation. And if Buurrnley lose Coyle to the Boltons I think you can see the 3 to drop.

Oh Dear Sammy Lee(2)!!!
You obviously didnt see much of wolves at the start of the season before Keogh was removed from the team for the return of Big Ass – which was so wrong by the way!!!
To the present day I personally feel of all the strikers at the club at the moment Keogh has BY FAR been the ‘best Foyle for Doyle’. Big Ass looked better recently, but that was against Burnley!!
Hoff just doesnt look good enough, Big Chris looked promising in the first half against Abu Dhabi City but faded drastically(might be lack of fitness!!)
Why keep knocking Keogh he does a job for us and certainly for Doyle!!!

We desperately need a premiership quality CH, but I wouldn’t count on MM finding him! He’s signed seven since he’s been at Molineux: Collins (gone), Ward (gone), Shackell (discarded – out on loan), Stearman (now used at full back), Berra (doing OK, nothing special), Zubar (yet to play CH) and Mancienne (now used in midfield).
just imagine how well foley and mancienne would play in there proper positions !!!!
MM likes Edwards because, he “puts a shift in” and gets in the box where he takes up decent positions. the trouble is he is an average midfielder and not a finisher and his shooting so far has been awful. I have to say I prefer Mancienne to Edwards anyday.. kightly still has it all to prove a this level, and hasnt looked affective in any game i’ve seen. Keogh has always been shotshy and cant see him adding much to the one gaol scored, but i was impressed with his performances in our early games. MM if your really keen on staying up it would be the postions that these 3 operate in that you look to strenghthen in the transfer market as well as in defence.

Kightly and Edwards will be back BEFORE Mad Mick makes any signings.
IF we sign anyone it will be at the last moment so in effect we will have lost another month without new players.
What is the matter with the man?
He must know who he wants. so go get them now not at the END of January.
Mind you having said that, if you were Morgan would you trust McCarthy with your money especially if you weren’t sure if he was stopping?

Of the three injured, all of them are good enough. Keogh was great at the start and our best player. Edwards has been fantastic and Kites has been out injured.
Ward is looking a fine player at left back too! Elokobi isn’t good enough, YET.
I hope we get a winger and maybe a centre back.
Kightly wil make the grade given time,Foley is not a midfielder and should return to rightback, with stearman at CH with a new signing, plus a quality midfielder and proven centre forward and a winger the likes of
Kilgalon
reo coker/ledley
pennant
keane/beatie
and maybe Nicky Shorey on loan

Now the heart of the team is pumping I fully expect the goals to start flowing. You cannot have one without the other…
Even without a signing we will survive. For me Mancienne playing in midfield has been an early acquisition!
that’ll be no new signings then. cheers jez!

(2) Collins??? god ur a good fan arent you lol.
Kightly is good enough when fully fit and is better than anyone else we have on the wing. That said i think Surman is also good enough if he is given the chance. Edwards bench player i agree.
Kites has done absolutely nothing yet and I question his ability at this level, I hope I’m proved wrong. As I have said before, additions now are more important than at any other time.
1) Kilgallon (although he does of course have an attitude problem)
2) Ledley
3) Mancienne (permanently)
4) Jermaine Beckford/Aaron McLean
Mr Morgan if you want mid-table you have to aim to get as many of these in as possible.
Fight, fight wherever you may be.

What retards do we have as wolves fans! Mcclean? god have u seen him play this season? he is useless and hardly a championship player let alone premiership, beckford is unproven too. Ebanks was top championship scorer last 2 years and hes not douing ote so its clear we need Proven Prem quality!! nothing less!!
Micko”like two new signings”
How many of the new sigings you signed before the season started are playing?
Will you please do the decent thing and go as anyone who is siding with him needs a reality check!! Can you honestly say we look like a FOOTBALL team? There have been so many times when we have looked oh so dis-jointed its unreal. We have hardly created ANY chances from open play!!Losing is part of the game and so is promotion and relegation I accept that but what I wont and cannot accept is our general poor play hence I use the word “DISJOINTED”no real WOLVES fan can say any different and the blame for this I am afraid lays at the feet of the manager in our case for all those that dont know his name is “MICK MCARTHY GOODBYE!”
How negative most of you are. We won`t getting any big money signings in not because the 3 M`s don`t have ambition but because promoted teams will always struggle to attract the better players until thet are established. the priority is to survive and build year on year. Get behind Mick – a good honest man who deserves better than the constant snipes of a few people on here.

This is the typical Wolves speak for “we won’t be signing anyone in January as we have no ambition”. In reality, Kightly, Blake, Iwelumo, Hoffdonkey,Edwards, Ward, Elokobi, Friend, Surman and Halford should all be sold. All not good enough at this level, and all costing wages that could pay for the 3 or 4 quality signings we need to stay up.But no, what teh club are actually doing is keeping teh same squad, thinking they will be good enough to bounce back up after relegation.Well, that won;t happen, and fans won;t be paying 600 quid plus to watch it either.Morgan…Moxey…WAKE UP!!!
