Bolton axe for Megson
Wednesday 30th December 2009, 11:11AM GMT.
Former Albion boss Gary Megson has been relieved of his duties as Bolton manager with immediate effect, the club confirmed today.
The 50-year-old leaves the Reebok Stadium with Wanderers 18th in the Barclays Premier League. His final game was last night’s 2-2 draw at home to Hull.
A club statement read: “The decision has been taken in the light of the position the club finds itself in the Barclays Premier League at the halfway point of the season.
“Assistant manager Chris Evans and first-team coach Steve Wigley will take charge of first-team matters for the interim period.”

Good manager, Bolton have no hope now they are gone. Sign Kevin Davies Mick, he’d compliment Doyle.

Who do Bolton think they are ? They have zero chance of getting a better manager in their position, which will now have no chance of improving. :D

I think Bolton may live to regret this. They weren’t playing great football but then we tried that last season and got relegated. GM has had a fraction of the budget that Sam Alladyce worked with and they still have games in hand on those around them. He’s been a victim of dillusional fans that think their club is much bigger than it is.
1 Winslow.
I think this could be very good news for your lot. A case of fans beware what you wish for.

Where will Chris Evans find the time? Isn’t he taking over from Wogan as well?

Great manager, He never stood a chance with the Bolton Fans! Right from the start they wanted him out! Another British manager axed….to make way for another Foreign Manager!

Agree wholeheartedly with what`s already been said on here.
The last 12 months i have been working with a Bolton nut, and he tells me that Megson is possibly the most reviled manager the club has had.
I think his biggest problem was following the iconic Sam Allardyce, he was probably never accepted by the Bolton populace.
Effective but unpleasing on the eye, would be my apprasial of Megson, but in that respect, is he really any different to Allardyce ?
It will be interesting to see where they go from here.

TRBH, I hope so, realistically as 2. said who else are they going to get in to improve things? I tentatively suggest that this is the beginning of the end for them in the Prem this season and maybe one or two of the top players i.e. Kevin Davies will look for a move.

7 Winslow.
The Portsmouth news looks like even more good news for you. There might only be one relegation place left for you to avoid.
There are fans of your club and mine that advocate that we follow the Portsmouth model IE spend in haste repent at leisure.

Think I’m gonna disagree with the comments on here. Although meggo has proven he is a top CCC manager with 2 successive promotions I never felt he was a prem manager.
Even at albion he fell out with any player who showed flair or style – god knows what established prem players made of him.
I think Bolton have acted at just the right time – games in hand so every chance of getting some points and a transfer window for the new manager to work in.
If they make the right appointment they have enough quality to survive – what price Mark Hughes ???

I think Megson won’t be too worried about this. Surely he will now return home to manage Sheffield Wednesday. Good luck to him. He’s basically an honest, hard working guy . Don’t you also think it’s ironic about Alan Irvine , given what the PNE chairman was saying about him just a few months ago when he was talking to the Albion about replacing Mowbray. Who’d be a football manager ?

One of the best managers the baggies ever had ,if had not fell out with Peace he would still be at the baggies. His football was poor but he new how to win,the Bolton fans never excepted him and they will be glad to see the back of him .He wiill proberly turn up on SKY telling everyone why he was sacked

12 Winslow.
Yeah and I wonder how many of the big spender brigade would still be going to games when the club were wallowing in the depths.

Time will tell. At least I won’t miss his loud mouth and gum chewing. Gosh he never shut up!!!

I for one will never forget what Gary Megson did for the Albion. First manager for 15 years to get us into the top flight, his football philosophy is not pleasing on the eye but

I for one will never forget what Megson did for the Albion, getting us promoted twice to the Premiership after so many years of misery.
Unfortunately, Bolton are another example of a small club getting ahead of themselves and thinking they are better than they actually are. Portsmouth in the same mould and look at the mess they are in!

Megson will always be a hero as far as I’m concerned; he rescued us from 20 years of mostly sh*te. But I got a feeling of deja vu from what a lot of Bolton fans were saying: too cautious, teams unable to change gear, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory etc etc. Remember the game at V*lla when Staunton got sent off, but we never went after the game, seemed to settle for a draw and ended up losing in injury time? That’s what infuriated me about us under Megson in the Premiership and from I’ve heard it’s become a trait of Bolton’s.
So I would agree with Happy Baggie that Megson’s approach tends to get shown up in the Premiership. Having said that, the bloke should always be welcome at the Albion and deserves the freedom of the town (not sure what this gives him. Can he graze sheep in Queens Square?)

TRBH, yeah I know its tragic really and funny really cos the same guys moan about how much the players earn and then in the same breath want the club to throw £100,000′s a week at this player and that. I watch a lot of non-league and amatuer football now as I can’t bear all the nonsense I have to listen too from people.
