Action call over eyesore pub site

Fed-up residents and councillors are demanding action to transform an eyesore former pub site along one of Wolverhampton’s busiest routes.
The Black Horse pub, in Parkfields, was finally demolished in May after three years standing derelict and suffering at the hands of vandals, arsonists and travellers.
The demolition came months after plans for a housing development on the trouble-hit site in Thompson Avenue, Blakenhall, was thrown out.
The planning application from Blackhorse Venues Ltd to build 20 apartments and four houses on the site was rejected by Wolverhampton City Council because planning bosses said they wanted more houses on the site to attract families to the area.
But councillors today called for action claiming that the site, which is now blocked behind panels of white fencing, is a blot on the landscape and gives a bad impression of the city.
Councillor Judith Rowley said: “We are anxious to see that site developed as it is of no use or no quality to the community.
“It’s a privately-owned site and we are still waiting for an application for a scheme.
“Can you imagine what it is like for the people who have to look at that site every day? It is a complete blot on the landscape.
“The neighbours are hungry to see something happening at the site. It is on a main road and gives a bad impression. It is not nice for the community to have something like this on the doorstep.”
Long-suffering neighbours living near the former pub have spent years calling for action.
The Black Horse closed in May 2006 after being the first pub in the city to have its licence revoked over problems including drug dealing and prostitution.
It became a magnet for troublemakers and vandals set rubbish alight in a large ground floor room. Bosses were eventually forced to stack up piles of rocks and rubble at the entrance of the site to getting people.
