Berra set for all-clear

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Christophe Berra (2nd right) looks over at manager Mick McCarthy (left) as he leaves the field of play injuredWolves centre-back Christophe Berra suffered mild concussion in last night’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The Scotland international was substituted at half-time after knocking himself out when landing awkwardly winning an aerial clash with Craig Bellamy.

Berra will be assessed again today after walking unaided from Molineux last night, but is expected to be given the all-clear to be fit for Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie at Tranmere, if needed.

Meanwhile, Michael Mancienne has been praised as a virtual new signing after a ‘coming of age’ performance in central midfield last night.

The on-loan Chelsea man made his first central midfield start for Wolves alongside Karl Henry and won the sponsors’ vote for man of the match after impressive performances off the bench in that position recently.

“Mancienne was outstanding,” said boss Mick McCarthy.

“We’ve just found a midfield player who got man of the match last night and was as good as any of them. I thought he and Karl Henry really gave us a platform from which to play.”
