Albion consider Moses bid

Tuesday 29th December 2009, 1:25PM GMT.

Crystal Palace's Victor Moses and Birmingham City's Keith FaheyAlbion are weighing up a bid for Crystal Palace teenager Victor Moses – but they must sell players in January before making a move.

The Baggies are keeping close tabs on the 19-year-old forward, who seems certain to be sold by the cash-strapped Eagles in January to bring in much-needed funds.

But Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo knows he must offload players to generate his own funds before he could consider firming up his interest in Moses.

Robert Koren is attracting interest and could be sold by Albion in January while Coventry have shown an interest in making Leon Barnett’s loan move permanent.

However, even if Albion generate funds they could face a fight to capture the talented Moses, who has emerged as one of the hottest young prospects in England.

A host of Premier League clubs including Sunderland, Tottenham and Liverpool are also monitoring his situation and that could trigger an auction that forced the asking price out of the Baggies’ reach.

future England player I am certain, been saying for two years we should try and get him £1.5 Mil in my humble opinion is an absoloute steal

1.5 mil is probably going to leave Warnock / Jordan rolling on the floor laughing. I think this is an agent trying to start a bidding war. I also think he will look at premier teams first like Hull, Wigan who will be able to offer more money a week and if Spurs or Fulham were interested then forget it.
I would love to see a player with this quality and youth come to the Hawthorns but I doubt we could secure the deal. If we are interested then lets move decisively and quickly to get him in the squad for the Forest game.

Must sell before we can buy? whats that all about?Of course there is money to spend, its just a ploy by JP to keep the asking prices down.He isn’t going to let selling clubs know we are flushed is he.——– Just an opinion.Don’t think anybody will get him for £1.5 ml. though, not with established Prem clubs and Continental clubs sniffing.

I disagree, £1.5 Mill wouldn’t be a steal it would be grand larceny. I’d have thought 4 or 5 Mill to be closer to the mark and then with a sell on clause. Having said that, I remember us getting a certain Laurie Cunningham for £110,000 so who knows? miracles do happen. Whatever happens, it’s great that we’re looking at players of this quality. Moses looked very good against us this season as he did a couple of seasons back, when he was seventeen and may have been making his debut against us.

TRBH – LOL, AMS made a good point it could be agent starting a bidding war, but as you say good for you guys to be in that market, very disappointed that we haven’t been linked, but it may be more pressing to get some proven experience in for us that another for the future. Only thing missing from our two performances against Liverpool and City was someone with quality delivery and a proper goalscorer to play with Doyler. Cunningham was a great bit of business, as was a certain Mr Bull we signed for peanuts so these things do happen. My worry for us is that maybe our manager puts off the higher quality players…

Right, I love the Albion and would love to think that Victor Moses would sign for us. Could we get a grip though please. Barcelona, Inter and Chelsea have expressed an interest in this kid. 1.5 million wouldn’t buy his shoe lace. Singularly the most ridiculous article I have read in the Express and Star ever. The reporter should be sacked, a nothing story.

I seem to remember that Steve Bull played for England, hardly ‘lower leagues’ stuff. I was angry when Ron Saunders sold him to Wolves as he was just what we needed at that time. He was raw, but he could score. And did. Loads of them. he probably was as important to The Wulfies right then as Jack Hayward was later. Add to that his loyalty and we gave away the Crown Jewels to our neighbours. Both clubs could have been Supermarkets by now but for some good fortune and good owners. Never forget that. No.13Bob. You are boring, tiresome and an idiot if you think you fool anyone. Now take off your ‘spymask’ you had for Crimbo and go wash your face and hands.

I think this story has been picked up from the national press, so don’t blame the E&S. I’m sure the agent is probably behind it.
As for the theory of Barca and Inter being interested. I doubt if either have heard of Crystal Palace never mind Victor Moses. Chelsea rarely look at anyone from the lower divisions but I’m sure clubs like Fulham and Wigan will be interested.
I’m sure our management know what he’s worth but you don ‘t come in with your top price. Finally, if you’re not in it you can’t win it. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Nice to change hear the club being attacked by our own supporters for being interested in buying someone instead of for not trying to buy people.

    16 Cyril.
Can’t help but agree. Whatever leagues he played in, we would have been glad to have him at any time during his career after he left us, some youngsters can never appreciate how bad things were back then but these things happen, spilt milk and all that.
Interestingly, along with Laurie, most of our best players have been bargain buys. The King cost £25K, Cyrille £5K, Super Bob £300K, Lee Hughes £250K, even Greening at todays prices fits this criteria, Willie Johnston was a bargain because of his bad boy reputation, I’m sure others can add the ones I’ve missed. I think in the future we may be adding Thomas and Miller to the list.
PS Cyril. I also agree about Bob, either a very, very sad individual or one that is getting very worried at the way things are going at the Mol. Every silver cloud seems to have a black lining over there.

    17 Sir Terry.
Just had a perusal on the Wolves site. PHEW! They’re not even in the bottom three yet with a few honourable exceptions, they want everyone out, including the kit man and the tea lady.
Moxey has always been public enemy number one, closely followed by (thick/super) Mick. Two defeats and Morgan is starting to get stick but the really worrying thing for them is that the players are now being castigated. There are one or two that avoided criticism, Doyle because he tries and Milijas because he didn’t play but the rest seem to be fair game, including SEB who only came on for a few minutes. How long before the crowd at the game turn and the banners make an appearance. I hope it doesn’t happen and they stay up and we get up. The area needs a strong West Midlands presence in the PL, there’s been too much doom and gloom for too long.
I know we have our sprinkling of hyper critical plonkers but thank God they’re a tiny minority.
    COME ON YOU BAGGIES.

TRBH. Bob Taylor was class, he’s still got it actually I play footy with him semi regular, top man too. Lee Hughes was tremendous for you looked in the Bull mould, thought he was going on to do it at the very highest level. He still knows where the net is. You are spot on with regard to Moses and the foreign clubs, the one thing you lot might have as a bargaining chip against the other sides interested is guarenteed first team football, and also first team next year almost certainly in the Prem, still hope we have a look at him. 13 sounds like he’s on the wrong board that sort of usual negative drivel is usually on our boards!!! With regards to silver clouds you can’t blame us over the last two decades every time one has appeared on the horizon by the time it gets to us its actually the mother of all storm clouds!!!!

I still believe Simon Cox is a donky and should

31DLB. I said on here yesterday but it didn’t get printed, Moses may well consider Albion as he would get to play in the first team, a good chance of the Prem to follow and his wages would always be on the table each month. You have seen what can happen to a player who has come down from the Prem and thinks it’s all beneath him. Ask Luke Moore. He’s only now beginning to find his way forward again. Last question for you. How can you score 8 goals in about ten matches and be a donkey? Cox is a predator, he works hard and is improving all the time. Give the lad a break. Roberto is doing the subs bit for Chris Wood who will be one hell of a player in time. Add Ish to the mix and we’ll have some decent forwards.

In the last 2 matches Cox has been bloody awful,
if he`s still finding his feet then he should be
on the bench for an important game like Forest
next week,Chris Wood and Luke Moore up front
every time for me with Cox coming on for the last 10 mins to try and snatch a goal like in
the QPR match. The people who love Simon Cox
are the ones who use to wet their pants over
Rob Earnshaw who was also an awful striker.
