We’re all in firing line, admits McCarthy
Monday 28th December 2009, 11:17AM GMT.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy believes Manchester City’s decision to sack Mark Hughes means no one is immune from the axe – and made his own job harder.
Roberto Mancini brings City to Molineux tonight having controversially replaced Hughes, despite the former Wales manager losing just two games this season.
Mancini kicked off with a 2-0 win over Stoke on Boxing Day but former City player McCarthy believes the decision cranks up the pressure on managers at a time when Wolves chairman Steve Morgan has repeated his pre-season statement that mere survival won’t be good enough.
“We know no-one is immune anyway,” said McCarthy.
“But it’s up to them to do what they want to do.
“When you lose two games and keep on hearing they were on target for what they wanted to achieve, and still get the sack, it really is tough.
“You can’t just change all those players and expect it to be right anyway.
“Their win over Stoke probably makes my job harder, whoever is running the team. If it wasn’t going to be hard enough, then we’ve got them with a new manager who they’ll all be trying to impress.”
Morgan was quoted in a Sunday paper saying 17th wouldn’t be good enough this season.
“I wouldn’t be happy finishing fourth from bottom,” the chairman is reported as saying. “I’ll be happy with a mid-table position. I’d consider that a success.
“The last thing I want is an exciting last weekend where we’re in the mix to stay up.”

How about dipping into those millions in the bank and bringing in a couple quality players in january and maybe we may finish mid table, its up to you Steve, in my opinion a midfielder and a top striker and were nearly there.

Your comments make interesting reading Mr.Morgan.
I am sure you must know that the vast majority of loyal fans would heartily agree with you in feeling that a mid table finish would seem like success in this season.
Only you are in a position to make that possible!
I know all the arguments about attracting players of the right calibre to come to the club. The fact is if the money is right you will have no trouble.
We do need strengthening in most areas. The core is there but we need a few more seasoned players to finish the job.

Morgan’s in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks his miserly 18M investment could possibly get us mid table.
Its pretty clear cut what ‘success’ means: 17th…brilliant, give Merlin Mick the freedom of the city! 18th…sack him, publicly flog him & send the muppet on his way.

The only shock about the Hughes sacking is that it took so long.
That team could not defend and continually gave up goals which turned wins into draws. I was inevitable that they should have addressed the problem before they frittered the season away.

That team under Hughes could not defend and continually turned wins into draws. Their season was in real danger of being frittered away.
Expect some Italian inspired defensive steel from Man-cini tonight.

Have to agree with Mad Tunna. In January we desperately need another striker as EBanks patently isn’t up to this level and one, possibly two midfielders to hold up the ball and feed the strikers.
This is the test of Mr Morgan’s commitment to the club. Let’s see what happens. No signings and we will draw our own conclusions.

we need a left back so much as cover for our striker, sorry winger, whoops steven ward. give him some clout steve morgan as we need another midfielder ,a goalscoring one at that as karl henry works his socks off but never gets in the opposition half and millijas is pure luxury.also a proven striker alongside doyle as sylvan is not up to this level. if we sell steff the chef and elokobi tyson that should put another 100 quid towards our purchases,
