Team changes planned – but it won’t be wholesale

Monday 28th December 2009, 11:11AM GMT.

SPURS V WOLVES 8 GD 12Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will almost certainly tweak his side for tonight’s clash against Manchester City – but hinted against wholesale changes.

Stephen Ward’s dismissal at Anfield forces McCarthy into at least one change, while the boss revealed after the 2-0 Boxing Day defeat to Liverpool wide men Kevin Foley and Matt Jarvis were “running on empty”.

But strikers Kevin Doyle and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and midfielder Nenad Milijas should all be ready to start after playing around an hour against the Reds.

George Elokobi is expected to replace Ward, after he came on on Saturday.

“There are a few tired legs – I think Matt Jarvis and Kevin Foley were running on empty because they put a shift in,” said the boss.

“Sylvan walked out of the dressing room like an old man, so we’ll have to take a look at it.

“But if we can perform again tonight, especially after the half an hour with 10 men, I’ll be delighted.

“We’ll be expecting to win which we’ll try to do.

“City played on Saturday too. I think they might have a slightly bigger squad than I’ve got, but I’ll see how all the players feel before I make a decision.”

Doyle insists he will be ready to play against City. “I’ll be fine having only played 58 minutes,” said the £6.5m record signing.

“We’re at home, we’re up for it and we’re still full of confidence because we put up a good fight against Liverpool and we’re ready to put on a good show against Manchester City.”

Is it me but are our players not proffesionals, can they not put a “shift” in on more than one occasion a week? I say run them into the ground they’ve got two weeks off begining of January. At this rate we’ll have the fittest squad in the championship if we’re not careful

“There are a few tired legs – I think Matt Jarvis and Kevin Foley were running on empty because they put a shift in,” said Mick, well this doesn’t say much for the lads’ fitness, better get a new and improved fitness coach then Mick. Next one.
“Sylvan walked out of the dressing room like an old man, so we’ll have to take a look at it.” He’s 23 surely he can play tonight Mick? There is also another problem Jarvis is the only fit out-and-out winger unless Mick use Mendez-Liang? Then who will replace Blake? The Austrian hasn’t impressed me so then there is only Iwelumo. I can see Halford making a return, now he isn’t going to scare Man City is he?

Of all the burning questions I would like to ask the manager, the most pressing one right now is ” why cannot the best right back at the club not get a game in his position? “

No 3 quite simply at this present time last years right back is not as good as stearman. Foley will come back, my opinion Stearman is doing very well.

‘Slightly’ bigger squad than us Mick (lol). Get off George’s back you detractors, he’ll be ok. If Jarvis is knackered give Surman a go, he’s been knocking on the door for a while now. I know MM won’t play the Hoff but I’d be tempted to give him some sort of a run if SEB’s legs have gone – can’t help thinking these players should be fitter than they are, is Tony Daley running the best fitness regime with them?

Fight, fight wherever you may be!
