McCarthy urges his players on
Monday 28th December 2009, 11:19AM GMT.
Mick McCarthy will urge his players to take out their Liverpool frustration on moneybags Manchester City tonight – and end the decade on a bang.
The Wolves boss and his players are still annoyed at the pivotal Boxing Day sending-off of Stephen Ward that wrecked their chances of getting anything at Anfield.
But the Molineux chief believes the confidence generated by three wins in five means there is the belief they can achieve a third successive home victory.
“Confidence doesn’t just get sapped away because of losing to Liverpool,” said the boss. “Anyone could see we were confident during the Liverpool game. They all feel like they played well and deserved better than we got.
“The way we’ve played, especially recently, sends out the right message to everybody.”
McCarthy says Wolves have ended 2009 on a high with 19 points at the halfway stage.
“If we’d been offered that before the start of the season, I guess we’d have taken it,” he said. “We’re certainly not pushovers – we’ve taken more points on our travels than anyone outside the top eight.
“We’ve had some luck, played well and the lads have stuck together.”
Record signing Kevin Doyle has challenged Wolves to end the year on a high with 13 days before their next Premier League game at West Ham.
“We’ve got virtually two weeks before our next Premier League game after tonight, so it would be nice to avoid defeat with our next game against West Ham a six-pointer,” he said.
Doyle believes Wolves can continue their Molineux improvement after beating Bolton and Burnley this month.
“Those two wins have given us our confidence back at home,” he said.
“So it doesn’t matter how many millions they’ve spent.
“There’s no problem with confidence, but that all changes if we don’t do a job tonight.”
Doyle believes Wolves can exploit City after they kicked off the Roberto Mancini era with a 2-0 win over Stoke.
“Hopefully their new manager will still be settling in – maybe we can catch them on the hop,” he said.

Surely we either need to ‘end it on a high’ or ‘go out with a bang’…not ‘end it on a bang’ HAHA!

Thank God for the squad system eh Mick, ten changes again today, thers no way the team who played on Boxing day will be ready to play again today, they needed eight days rest after beating Spurs, they must be exhausted.

Fine words from Kevin Doyle….If you stayed on your feet a little more, and did not hit the deck every time you are touched, and had the guts to strike the ball outside the box say 30 yards like Milijas, ( that’s what strikers do) and convince McCarthy that Sylvan is a usless partner in these games….then I may agree with you

A reasonable return at the halfway mark.I still feel that if we are to survive then considerable investment MUST be made in the January transfer window.I can’t really get my head round the fact that we are not going in for Robbie he would make certain we stayed in and would repay the investment triple fold.It is obvious that whatever McCarthy says, Ebanks is not cutting it in the Prem No goals in open play, and one decent game is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.How long is he going to persist with him????We need a top goalscorer with Doyle this isn’t rocket science it should be staring him in the face,BUT IS IT??????

Difficult finish to the year, looks like he’ll leave out Jarvis and Foley, possible SEB too. Mancienne has looked the business recently. Play him at full back or in front of the back four. Please Mick, don’t put George in at left back, he’ll get roasted.
Love three points, but, I reckon a draw is the best bet.

No problems tonight fellow supporters I have spent most of my morning watering the pavement outside Elokobi’s house, with a little luck big George will be on his way to Perton on his bottom as we speak. Please, Please Mick will you play Mancienne or Zubar at left back big George is hopeless, I love his energy, his honesty but not his football. Petrov will kill us tonight if George maks Molineux

When I saw the Ward push, live, my immediate thought was, ‘Ward, you are an idiot. You are off and you have just cost us this game’.
Having read the manager’s comments on the red card, my thought is that he is an idiot.
But what else can be expected from a bloke whose nose points east when he is looking west?

No.4 Optimistic Wolf Good I hope they do think that, cause they will think they have a got an easy game and we can prove them wrong.
11 Mistyk Dipstyk To me it was not even a booking offence he didn’t hardly touch him. If that was a sending off then Stephen Gerrard should have been sent off earlier in the match what did he get nothing and it wasn’t once where he went in two footed.

Normal service is resumed, McCarthy out. 5 wins in 20 games says it all. He can’t cut it at this level.
