Power cut affects thousands

Saturday 26th December 2009, 10:30AM GMT.

Thousands of Black Country families feared that they would have to spend Christmas without their traditional turkey dinner due to a power cut.

Electricity cut out at 5,500 homes in Tettenhall, Perton and Finchfield in Wolverhampton at 8am yesterday due to an underground cable fault.

Brian Wain, of Perton, was preparing a roast turkey and all the trimmings for himself and six family guests, including wife Lynda, son Daniel, 18, mother and father-in-law Maurice and Betty, both 80, as well as 20-year-old daughter Sophie and her boyfriend Ryan, when the power failed.

The 55-year-old, of Richmond Drive, said: “It is just the worst day it could possibly happen.

“I had put my turkey on to cook at a low heat at about half-past midnight but it wasn’t ready when the power went out.”

Engineers were sent to repair the problem and re-route supplies.

The electricity was fully restored by midday.

“We didn’t know what we would have done if it hadn’t come on in time,” Mr Wain added.

A spokesman for Central Networks said electricity was restored to 1,000 homes within 20 minutes of it going off.

The person to blame for the power cuts is Ebeneezer Thatcher and her Tories !
They sold off all of OUR utility companies to their cronies and now they are in the hands of foreign countries. The shareholder comes first – the consumer a poor second. If the profits from the energy companies were ploughed back into the infrastructure then this would not have happened.
BAH Humbug ! Turkeys will vote for Christmas – just remember that before the nasty party are re-elected in 2010. Happy New Year :-)

Come off it! Labour have been in power for over twelve years, more than enough time to sort out the utility companies. The fact that they have refused to do it means that Labour agree with Tory policy.
We could do with someone like Thatcher in power again, to abolish the Trades Unions for a start. That would remove half of Britain’s problems.

well my electricity was off between 7.30 to 12.30 so it was a bit longer than your article. But hey, we just chilled, got our dinner a few hours late, no panic and didn’t moan ‘We didn’t know what we would have done if it hadn’t come on in time’.

The utility companies should never have been privatised.
We all pay a fortune for a poor service to be fleeced by these greedy ****s! This country is all wrong!

Turkey not cooked in 8 hours? Was it in front of the radiator??

Turkeys need 40 minutes per kilo. Maybe it was like an 11 kilo Turkey.
