Carroll and Carsley move ruled out

Wednesday 23rd December 2009, 11:30AM GMT.

7753775Wolves have ruled out a fresh approach for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll and will not move for Birmingham midfielder Lee Carsley in the transfer window.

Boss Mick McCarthy tried to sign 6ft 4in Magpies forward Carroll in the summer, but insists there is no interest in reviving a move for the England under-21 international in January.

The manager said: “We were interested in him in the last window, but they didn’t want to sell then and I haven’t enquired since. I would imagine with them being top, they don’t want to sell now either.”

Wolves also won’t be signing Birmingham’s out-of-favour midfield Lee Carsley, despite reports yesterday suggesting McCarthy was about to bid £1million for the 35-year-old. Wage demands prevented the club signing the veteran in McCarthy’s first season in 2007 before his move to Blues.

In the outgoings department, McCarthy revealed there is fresh interest in defender Jason Shackell, whose loan at Doncaster expires next month.

The Wolves boss said: “Doncaster want to keep Shackell, but there has been a bit of interest in him from another Championship club who have asked me about him.

“He’s available and if they want to do something, I’ve said ‘come back to me.’ If they do, we’ll talk about it. If not, he’ll more than likely stay on loan at Doncaster for the rest of the season.”

Wolves are also preparing to say goodbye to two forgotten fringe players, with Neill Collins and Daniel Jones set to complete permanent moves to Preston and Notts County respectively.

McCarthy said: “The moves of Neill and Daniel Jones become permanent in January, but not Mark Little at Chesterfield.

“Mark’s playing football and, unless someone else wants to buy him, then he’ll be well served staying there.

“Scott Malone and David Davis are at Southend and Darlington and playing, but they’re not available. Carl Ikeme is back here but, by the time he’s fit, his loan will be up.”

I am prepaired to lay a ton that McCarthy and Wolves will ignore the experience we need to bolster the team in the january window, and go it alone for the rest of the Season.

I am told that Morgan is not shelling out for anyone decent next month after being convinced by the Manager that the team can survive with no further experienced players.

    Any takers ???

thank god the for that, nearly choked on my cornflakes when it said 1mil for Carsley on Sky Sports news the other morning. Way to much for a blues reject and someone thats 35! Also if that had been the sum of our signings ambition would of been bad.

Thought Jermaine Pennant would be an interesting shout. We need a winger as only fit winger at moment is Jarvis.

Thank God for that.Carsley?surely thats one of McCarthy`s xmas jokes.Carroll? Everybody knows he would cost money and McCarthy likes to do things on the cheap.Pennant? could be a good signing,Beattie would be a good signing as would Sol Campbell and of course Robbie Keane, but it`s quite obvious the Wolves hierarchy do not have the same ambitions as the fans.No xmas presents this year, again.

I wouldn’t trust MM with any of my money, how can you trust a bloke who’s nose faces east when he’s looking west?!

Get in Curbishley before the next transfer window, then we may have a chance of staying up.

no.2 Oh yeah and where did you hear that from my Tesco friend?Either way I believe we would survive with this squad anyway and we have had 14 different players injured this season and we have the youngest squad in the Premier League.

    3. I have also seen those rumours, I think we need the following:

    Jermaine Pennant
Sol Campbell ( Until end of season)
    Joe Ledley or Chris Eagles
    Matt Kilgallon
    Jack Wilshere (loan)

Every day at least one post brings up the question regarding the supposed millions that
Hayward placed into the Wolves sale that should be spent on the team. In my opinion our present owner is probably a competent business dealer and values money in the bank rather than in the prospect of having a team at the top of the league. I wonder how much would have been found if he had taken over Liverpool, his favourite club, as he wanted to some many months ago.

Lets be realistic 1)Eagles, surely burnley wouldn’t sell their star player to a fellow sruggler! NO SENSE! 2) Pennant the drunk with a bad attitude ideally suited to influencing our young impressionables 3) Carsley how old? 4) Carol whats he done or in fact doing? 5)Ledley, doesn’t want to come, cardiff previously said yes 6) whittingham Why? 7) Mancienne have you not watched this season a couple of mil for the future yes but not impactive now. Lets tap up Fergie he owes us big style Wellbeck, gibson, etc would be ideal loaners forger Arsne he hates Mick. I love the David Bentley call he’d be fantastic, even the table top sale at Palace might unearth for the future. All said put everything on hold and get Robbie the guy’s magical, Mr Morgan you’d endear yourselves to the fans for life as would Moxley and Mick. Surely 5 million in wages and combined loan fee is a risk worth taking on guaranteeing prem football.

I think they got it wrong late last Aug when thet wasted the £2M windfall from Lescott on the high risk signing of Maierhofer. It would have been better if they had paid the market price for Carroll. I think Ashley would have sold like a shot at the time, despite what this article says. Hope fully they have learn’t from this. But let us not forget they got it right in signing Doyle. Also I think we should count our blessings in having Steve Morgan in stead of Brian Kennedy;just look at the sad position Stockport County are in.And a Happy Christmas to everybody who posts on this site.

I think we’re not far short, but we do need extra strength in a few places. I think we should buy some of these:

    Defenders (Full Back)
    > Alan Hutton (Tottenham) – barely used and needs first team football.
    > Paul Konchesky (Fulham) – seems undervalued there and if often rumoured to leave.

    Defenders (Centre)
    > Steven Taylor (Newcastle United) – excellent ptotential to be England defender.
    > Gonzalo Jara (West Brom) – at the scum but looks very, very good.

    Midfielders (Centre)

    > Victor Moses (Crystal Palace) – will be world class, can’t understand why bog club hasn’t snapped him up or why he isn’t mentioned for 2010 World Cup.
    > Kevin Nolan (Newcastle) – hard man in midfield who has now found out how to score.
    > Jack Wiltshire – Loan (Arsenal) – will be world class, get him in for a bit.
    > Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham) – missed out on him in August, doubt they’d sell now though.

    Midfield (Wing)

    > Adam Johnson (Middlesboro) – proper winger that comes from the wing to score excellent goals.
    > David Bentley – Loan (Totenham) – can be class and clearly not needed in team.
    > Jermaine Pennant (Real Zaragoza) – holiday over, the lad played in Champions League final!
    > Chris Eagles (Burnley) -they will be relagated and they know it, so they will sell.
    > Nani – Loan (Man United) – outside chance, but they’d prefer to play kids than him. He ran us ragged September.

    Strikers

    > James Beattie (Stoke) – kept Stoke up, older but knows where the goal is.
    > Carlos Vela – Loan (Arsenal) – future first teamer and scores plenty of goals, now Carling cup is over he will want games.
    > Benni McCarthy (Blackburn) – don;t know what’s happened with him, but always liked him.
    > Andrei Voronin (Liverpool) – looked pretty good when i saw him, but nobody would look too good when Torres is banging in goals next to you. International Striker.

I think these are the calibur of players we should be aiming for and not the likes of Hill or Friend, who will fill in, but not take this club forward.

If we can sign a utility defender, centre mid, winger and a goalscorer we shall be closer to mid-table than bottom.

Some of our main rivals (West Ham, Portsmouth and Birmingham) will have cash injections in January, so we must act quickly and spend 10-15 million!

We had a rocky week, but i still believe in you Mick!

12th in the league and you want the manager sacked, this is why other teams fans call us fickle, because of clowns like you, whether you like the man or not he’s doing a very good job here and we would of taken the position we’re in now at the start of the season!

Would like to see us go for a couple of wingers, i like the pennant idea, maybe routledge to give us a bit of pace. Also would love to see us go for beattie who may be on his way out of stoke, or even kitson, think he’s only on loan so could get him permanently.

Why were the Blues able to outplay us?
Bowyer and Ferguson – that is why.

We should have bought Kevin Nolan from Newcastle and Hunt from Reading [now at Hull] when we could have last summer.

    38. Whilst Ferguson looks like a good buy now, Im sure there would have been a lot of Wolves fans that wouldn’t have been happy had we bought him at the time Birmingham did. He was awful at Blackburn, a very good team at the time, and when he was playing some of his best football. Just another Scottish player that couldn’t hack the move south. Whilst he’s so far proved people wrong at Birmingham, and is playing very well indeed, I think its kudos to Mcleish for taking the risk and for us its a case of Harry Hindsight Im afraid.
