X Factor’s Treyc in single release
Monday 21st December 2009, 11:30AM GMT.
A talented Black Country student who had her X Factor dream dashed by Simon Cowell has gone on to release her own single.
Treyc Cohen made it to the final 24 of this year’s competition but failed to make the final cut despite her impressive voice.
But the 25-year-old student at the Walsall Campus of Wolverhampton University refused to give up her dream and went on to produce her own song. She says her single A Time To Be Heard can be described as “Coldplay with a gospel twist”.
It also features cappella quintet Black Voices.
Treyc, from Tamworth, is in her second year of a degree in popular music at the University’s School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure in Walsall. She has signed a record deal with new Birmingham record label AJOUPA.
Treyc visited mentor Simon Cowell’s home in Los Angeles where he praised her singing but told her she would not be going through to the live shows.
Despite giving a flawless performance she missed out on one of the three places up for grabs in the over 25s section to Danyl Johnson, Jamie Archer and eventual finalist Olly Murs.
Treyc said: “The X Factor was an amazing experience and I’m just so thankful the judges gave me the opportunity to go as far as I did.
“The support has been immense since leaving the show. I have been gigging alot with the band I sing with, Monday Session, and I’ve also had my solo gigs.
“I do feel in my heart of hearts that the single will do well because it’s catchy with a real feel good melody, so fingers crossed!”
Treyc wowed X Factor judges with her rendition of I’m Every Woman in her first audition. She then called her 13 brothers and sisters to share the good news. Her single was released on Monday.
After she was eliminated her course leader Steve Cooper said: “She did remarkably well and it is just one of those things where Simon has made a judgement call.
“It is certainly a shame but was a great opportunity to show what she can do.”
