Wolves 2 Burnley 0
Sunday 20th December 2009, 3:30PM GMT.
Much-changed Wolves returned to winning ways with a win against Burnley to take the heat off manager Mick McCarthy after a week of headlines for the boss.
McCarthy was rewarded for making 10 changes in midweek for the 3-0 defeat at Manchester United with a fairly comprehensive victory, to make it three wins in four games and give fans an early Christmas present.
This time the Molineux chief switched nine of the 11 who started at Old Trafford, goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann and Kevin Foley the only survivors.
The manager was even rewarded with the South Bank chanting ‘Super Mick McCarthy.’
Goals from Nenad Milijas – his second in as many home games – and Kevin Doyle’s fifth of the season ensured some of the anger at McCarthy’s controversial decision disappeared.
Wolves controlled much of the first half without the game ever really coming to the boil. Doyle had the first chance when his deflected 25-yarder went inches wide after nine minutes.
Then came Milijas’s opener, as the Serbia international sidefooted into an unguarded net after former Albion goalkeeper Brian Jensen couldn’t hold Matt Jarvis’s fierce curling shot.
Burnley’s Kevin McDonald later dragged a left foot effort wide after good work from Steven Fletcher.
Doyle was again the dangerman when Jensen did superbly swell to block his volley, with the £6.5million record signing was left on his own after beating the offside trap.
The game really opened up after the break, as Burnley tried to force their way back into the contest. Andre Bikey saw a header deflected wide and substitute Michael Duff steered a volley off target.
But Wolves showed them the way when Doyle made it 2-0 in the 50th minute, winning the ball in the air from Jody Craddock’s long pass forward before beating Jensen from six yards. The goalscorer was booked for his troubles, after whipping his shirt off in celebration.
The improving Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who had his best game of the season, then saw a thumping low drive from 25 yards smothered by Jensen.
Burnley hit back with a Duff header that was hacked off the line by Foley on 64 minutes, before Chris Eagles’s deflected shot drew a spectacular save from Hahnemann seconds later.
Wolves’ strikers played superbly though Ebanks-Blake was denied his first goal in open play this season in the 66th minute, when his downward header from Stephen Ward’s cross was tipped over from point-blank range by Jensen.
Ebanks-Blake also had a left foot effort from a tight angle smothered by the ex-Baggies shotstopper on 71 minutes, before the keeper caught Doyle’s header on the line from Jarvis’s corner.
But in a thoroughly entertaining second-half, Wolves had to be on their guard and Fletcher spooned over Wade Elliott’s centre at the far post.
Wolves however had little trouble hanging on for another crucial three points, despite late pressure from the Clarets.

never mind the quality grab the three points. we are still woefully short of premiership nous to stay in this division, wait and see. everybody putting ashift in might get us some reward against burnley, but we will get mullered by the majority of teams.

Yes completely vindicated. Hopefully all the moaners will shut up – it wasn’t as though he picked youth players as most of the team with 2 exceptions were all the players that people were being asked to be played.
Onward and upward now perhaps

Yeah, great move in midweek Mick!
Man, I love that Doyle!
I have nothing against Hennessey but having Hahnemann in goal makes me a lot less stressed during the game…
Surely when SEB gets his first “non-penalty” goal in a game, he’ll score like 5 in 10 minutes!! How could he miss that header??
Anyway, not the most exciting game but fantastic result.
P.S. Will players ever learn NOT to take off their shirt?? I know they’re happy but man that can be really costly.
P.P.S. I watched the live stream, I didn’t catch the names but those two were the most annoying commentators ever! Only negative things to say…

4 – you’re a prize plank.
We don’t need to compete with every side – just beat the teams around us.
Isn’t this exactly what we’ve been doing now we’ve had chance to get up to speed with the league and play a settled team?
You’re an absolute tool – I do wish you’d stop with your tedious comments and go and do something useful with your life.

We did look fresher and deserved the win. 9 pts out of 12 is superb. I thought Ward was great! No complaints and SEB even looked lively. UTW and here’s hoping we get a draw at least against Liverpool. Merry Xmas everyone :-)

Go on you Wolves. Just seen Doyles interview after game. Well said mate. Most improved player has to be SEB, well done mate. 12th is a very welcome early Xmas present. Merry Xmas to all the moaners, groaners, happy clappers, philosophers, doom and gloomers, and even the down right rude who express thierselves here. And a very happy Wolverhampton Wanderers New Year to you all.

Get in there!!! Difference was eleven players playing well (us) against one for Burnley (Eagles) he looks a cracking player, wish we could get him next month for £6 million or Ledley or both!!! With Kites injury and I believe inability at this level its the one area we are lacking – a midfielder who can ‘run’ the show. Very impressed with Mancienne when he came on, one or two good tackles and good ball distribution, please sign him next month Jez and a quality midfielder or two and we are looking at a comfortable mid-table finish.
Bring on ‘Pool now, be disappointed if we don’t get a drawer there.
Fight, fight wherever you may be!!!

The short-sighted, ignorant fans who need someone to punch every time something goes wrong (McCarthy and Moxey usually) will not appear on the board this week. How frustrating it must be for them to have watched Wolves win, play well and have nothing to whinge about. People who called him a disgrace to the name of Wolves should be ashamed of themselves. Crawl back under your stones until the next time we lose, then crawl out again and spout your poison. Pathetic people.

Oh yes there they are, the 3 points we were under pressure to gain from this match. Milijas for the second home game in succession scores and Doyle for the win making him top scorer with 5! Though that may not have been our most convincing performance, far from it, it did what we required, the 3 points and propelled us to 12th in the league too. SEB was MUCH better in this game and was extremely unlucky not to score (great stop by Jensen, not a poor header #6). He and Doyle showed some good understanding as a strike partnership at times during the game.
Hahnemann had another good game for us hence the clean sheet ,assured in the box again which helps defenders so much. However, I do worry that sooner or later we may concede a penalty from holding/shirt pulling in the area and today we could easily have done so, something we need to cut out doing so much.
Burnley did put some good balls into the box and luckily for us their strikers had an off day. So to sum up we deserved the points BUT we must not let teams have a way back in once we are in front (easier said than done I know) but it will ultimately be the difference between staying up and going down.
I am very happy with the result of course just a word of caution especially against the better teams of this division.
Anfield next. Believe.

Happy with a win today, however i will never forgive or forget about tuesday night. It could have been 4 wins in 4 had the right team been chosen, Fulham proved that.
Doyle played a brilliant game today and proved his moneys worth.
AND!! SEB..was pleasantly surprised really, maybe a half-decent prem player yet.
A well deserved win today…but with a rested team that can’t play more than 1 game a week…I would expect nothing less.

My target for wolves survival written at the start of the season needed Wolves to have 20 points after todays game – we’ve got 19. We need 21 points for forty. We have ‘winnable’ home games with Wigan, Stoke,Blackburn,Sunderland and everton. Four draws from Hull, Brum, Spurs (at home) Bolton, fulham, Burnley would see us safe.
If we could get something from Liverpool and/ man city what a bonus that would be…
The three M’s are doing fine. In Mick we trust

Er, salutations to the victory over Burnley. No one is happier than I for that but……. erm, profesional footballers get pretty well paid, part in thanks to our hard earned forty odd quids. Maybe we´d have twenty points in the bag by now if the lads could have done what really, after all, is what´s expected of them for all those bits of our forty odd quids. Thing is with Mick, he doesn´t seem to like Wolves fans much. Perhaps along with football, he might spare a little time on some PR tactics over this season of good will……. Anyone fancy Mark Hughes in the transfer window???

I think we’ll stay up this season, but if we don’t then it will be the booboys fault AND NOBODY ELSES.

Would like to see Iwuelmo with Doyle. Blake is to similar to Doyle but it seems to me that Blake wants to have the ball put to him all the time and not put that little bit more of an effort to get the ball himself. Doyle on the other hand is class chases and creates chances for himself. Great performance but it was against a poor side…worst away record in the prem, but I do feel we will get something at Anfield. All those people wanting Keane back…12 million to Sunderland (rumour) we have no chance.

Sorry folks, But I still think the team choice against united was a bad decision. Man U were very poor against us, Just look what happened to them yesterday, There is no reason we couldnt have come away with at least a point. And if our profesional athletes are not fit enough to play two games in 5 days then we have got no hope by the end of the season. Are we going to field 2nd choice sides in cup games to try and make sure of survival? I am not a McCarthy hater, Just think it was a disgraceful decision.

Great win, much needed after the midweek nonsense. 12th position looks good but it’s tight down there, we need some points from the next two tough games then hopefully we’ll be in a good enough position to attract some quality players during the transfer window.
The teams today didn’t look great, could have easily have been a championship level match, I fear better teams than Burnley would have beat us.
Loved Doyles goal, reminded me of Bully the way he took it, man of the match for me. Blake needs a goal badly to match his workrate and all round decent performance today, once he gets one I reckon they’ll start flying in. Defence did well when under pressure from Burnley in the second half. Mancienne looked good in the defensive midfield role.
Things are looking better, let’s just hope we can continue to build on it.

Well done MM and the team. All round hard working effort today BUT also some glimpses of quality esp Doyle and SEB coming back to something like his best. Henry was oustanding as was Ward. Hahnemann and Craddock are giving the defence calmer experienced heads for ANOTHER clean sheet.

Fantastic result – well done MM and the team.
Yet another hard working performance – sprinkled with more quality than I’ve seen in other games. SEB and Doyle were getting a few combinations going. Henry and Ward threw in some excellent tackles, while Hahnemann and Craddock seem to have the calming experienced heads to keep the defence in line – 2 clean sheets in one week.
For those moaning at MM – Tell me the last time Wolves were 12th in the prem league. Or if thats to difficult, 12th in the top flight.

Delighted with the win but it doesn’t change my view on what happened Tuesday night – I still think the team sheet was wrong at Old Trafford – today was a crucial victory for obvious reasons however its only 3 points between us and the relegation zone. The big test is in continuing the form on for a number of games; I think we need get something from Liverpool and at the very least a point against Man City, will it be a good time or bad time to play them?
As for today’s game, great start with the Milijas goal and of course Doyle should made it 2 afterwards. To be honest the first half wasn’t great, the second much better, Doyle’s goal was an excellent finish, worth every penny, he’s been pure class this season. We had chances too make it more, but for the Burnley keeper who kept the score line down, likewise Hahnemann made a great save from a deflected shot and we had one Burnley effort cleared off the line.
So how on earth Burnley didn’t score I don’t know, they had some dangerous crosses during the second half that just needed a touch to go in, their star man Chris Eagles is a type of winger we need in January as we only got the two out-and-out wingers in the first team squad, we need some more quality just too see us safe, one striker with pace to partner Doyle would be nice, Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega perhaps?
Finally, please Mick don’t try the 10 player change trick again because I don’t think we will get away with it next time around, we need another 6 or maybe 7 wins to keep us, if the premier league title is wide open then the fight for survival is the size of the grand canyon, anything can happen. So well done to the lads today, keep it up.

Although it was against Burnley this was a great win for Wolves that saw the team climb up to 12th in the table. It surely made it a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS to all Wolves fans around the world.
Never mind the team that lost to Man. U. we now must look forward positively so secure the 40 points needed so that Premiership status is acquired.
Today they were all brilliant as they gave their all.
Now its Liverpool on Sat and seeing them live quite often – not when Wolves play at the same time – I don’t see there’s anything to fear as Portsmouth showed on Saturday and Wigan last week. I see it as a match that Wolves can get something from it.
Wishing all Wolves fans a very Happy Xmas as we now savour todays three points. Up the Wolves!

Most people who don’t have a problem with Tues night – didn’t go!
I did, and wished we had fielded a strong team, we probably would have 12 points out of 12 instead of 9.
However, I’m not going to complain if we keep picking up the results. Burnley were poor but we’ve had a great run (not including Man Utd), so credit goes to Mick and the players.
I hope we go for it at Liverpool, as I think it’ll be an easier game than Man City. If Pompey can beat them, we must stand a chance of getting at least a draw if not a win. I just hope Mick gives this one a go and doesn’t drop 10 players again! I’m goin to L’pool and hope to see us win!
I think we’re just a few players short of a top half side. An experienced defender (Campbell), Winger/creative midfielder (Bentley) and a striker (Keane). I might be dreaming but i hope Morgan could find the cash to get in players of this calibre.
12th in the table and loving it! Happy Xmas Wolves fans!

Some people have a short memory when Mick arrived taking over from Glen(ys) Hoddle, sieways and bacwards, he had barely 11 pros on the books. Cetainly not 11 decent pros. He has built year on year Wolves are in a far better state now than when he walked in the door. Each year he has put in or around the play-offs before last years Championship season. What has he got to do? walk on water! Get off his back and support the team. Come on you Wolves!!

A good performance today and MM’s decision proved to be he right one. I was there at OT on tuesday and whilst i expected SOME changes, I didn’t expect ten, but, the performance and result today made it seem a good choice from Mick.
Doyle looks like the best 6 million ever spent, we look MUCH more solid with Hahnemann in goal and i thought Mancienne showed some good touches and made some good tackles when he came on.
I hope Mick doesn’t “Do an Old Trafford” again on boxing day for two reasons:
1) Liverpool look shaky at the minute and i think we can at least get a point there if we block out the midfield and put the effort in that we did at Spurs.
2) Even though we do have another 2 games in 2 days coming up, he has a FA Cup match coming up, which, and i think i speak for most people here, has no point to our season at all. THAT game at Tranmere is his chance to rest his players as we have a CRUCIAL game at West Hame on Jan 10th.
Hopefully, our improved league position will lead to us being able to go and spend a little more money in January and be able to bring some experience to the club. Personally, I would like to see another Left Back as we don’t look solid enough WITHOUT Stephen Ward in the team (Who once again was excellent today). I’d like to see another Midfielder. Ledley is overhyped, but, if your gunna cause a stir, I’d go and try and sign Eagles from Burnley, he was their best player on the park today by a mile and looks like he would be a good signing.
Finally, I know we have two of them already, but I would also like to see a 6 foot plus Target man. Some kind of tank that you can;t move off the ball for love nor money and who knows where the net is as well. The Hoff is tall, but not strong enough and Big Chris is becoming injury prone in his older years, but I’d love it if he could get a couple of goals this year :-)
Merry Xmas to all, I can’t make it to Anfield on Boxing day, so give the lads a cheer on for me!
Here’s to happy 2010 and a good end to the season!

I know that being a Baggies fan posting on here might not be welcome, but I would just like to mention about the way I saw Mick’s logic in changing the team against Man U.
I can understand the supporters that travelled to Manchester to see the reserve side play being upset about the money that they paid.
Okay you lost 3-0, but look at the positives from that game. Mick threw in all the reserves against one of the top teams in the Prem.
I would have thought that they played very well to contain that score to 3-0, also with Mick playing them all at once it gave him an excellent indication of how the players performed against a top side and the capabilities of players that might be required if you have injuries to the First team squad.
Sometimes managers have to make some changes to the team that might seem daft at the time, but you did well and won 2-0 against Burnley I think you should try and forgive Mick and have a little bit more faith in his judgement.
I honestly hope that you continue to do well and stay up in the Prem and hopefully the Baggies will be playing you there next season.

I stayed up late after a hard day of snowboarding to watch the wolves…and I was not disappointed. All those who said that Burnley were poor, theres 2 things to say to you:
1. They weren’t really poor, we played them off the park, they had chances that should of gone in, but so should we…they played well and looked like the side thats done so well so far this season!
2. If you believe Burnley were poor ; Burnley fielded a full strength side in midweek, so clearly the difference between the sides was the rest the players had! We were comfortable on the ball, we had considerably more pace and strength then Burnley and without the rest at OT they would have been boned!
I don’t think we’ll play a reserve side at ‘pool, after all pompey convincingly beat them saturday…so Mick should ( and hopefully will) Field a full strength side…todays win was comfortable and the players at times didnt need to work too hard…maybe one or 2 changes? I dont think we’ll see a massive change
MM’s interview with sky sports was excellent to watch! “Everyone in midweek complained when I made 10 changes, I wonder how many people will criticise me changing 9″ “but you set the team back the way it was” “Do you pick my starting 11?” Awesome

As I said on Friday, give Mick a break. Team selection fully vindicated, and a well deserved victory against a team that I suspect will be in the battle to survive at the end of the sseason. A flat first half really, only lit up by Doyle’s persistence which led to the fisrt goal. And a much improved second half which could have led to more goals. Kevin Doyle is quality, and his link up with SEB is looking much sharper. And how brave Doyle was to take off his shirt, cos it was freeeeeezing cold! A great victory and 9 points out of 12 in the last 4 games. Up the Wolves!
PS

Like everyone else I am very pleased with the result against Burnley, and with a little luck going our way, may have been 3 or 4 goals.
Before I go any further, I was one of the many thousand who critised Mccarthys actics against Manchester United, and despite the result on Sunday, I still believe he was very wrong, irresponsible and stupid, and do not subscribe to the popular view that Sunday’s result vindicates his actions.
Lets all hope that it is never repeated, and McCarthy goes into every game determined to win.
I was at the game on Sunday, and yes Wolves played quite well, however, the Burnley team were very poor, so I would be careful what we all take our of this game, as most of our future games will not be as easy as this one.
The majority of our team played up to their potential, in particular, Milijas, although he can really only play for 60 minutes, Doyle, ran all day, but is it necessary for him to hit the deck as often as he does ?..Ebanks always tries, and is improving his form in the Premiership, but I still do not believe that he will make the cut after Christmas, and will be replaced in his regular spot.
Our defence played well in the first half, however, were rattled for most of the second half until Mancienie was brought on, and while Hannermann had little to do, played well, which will be of serious concern to Hennersey.
With the exception of Doyle & Hannermann, little or no immediate prospect of McCarthys new signings being given much exposure, and until we give ‘Hough’ a chance to play more than a few minutes at the end of games, we will never know if he is as good as the other Premiership’s giant, Crouch…and finially, give Big Chris more exposure now that he is over his injury…don’t forget, he is a goal scorer, remember last season.
In summary, very pleased with the result, install in every Wolves player that every game in the Premiership is winable !!! remember Spurs away a couple of weeks ago, bottom side Portsmouth’s great win on Saturday…and so on.
We must include some experience in the January window, we need one or two players with the guts and experience of Craddock, who is not going to last forever, we all know that Spurs are offloading the perfect signing for Wolves who would work well with Doyle, has a love for Wolves and gets on well with McCarthy…Lets hope we can move on from here.

well it took muppet mick what 3 month to understand that if you play the same players for a
few weeks the chances are that you will win games,
and we only have 1 created midfield player,so if he does not play where are the goals coming from.
it not rocket science.now he wants all the credit
for what us on here with half a brain could of
told him.

I stand corrected and apologise for my knee jerk reaction to the events of last Tuesday.
The league table this morning will ensure I am not so quick to judge the managers actions in future.
One note of caution tho……………….how many times did the ball cross our 6 yard line without a burnley touch 2nd half!!??
None the less congratulations to Mick Mcarthy and the Team for 9pts from 12.
Merry Christmas.

Fantastic result and performance from the lads,McCarthy was 100% correct with his team sellection last Tuesday.I Do feel sorry for the traveling fans expecting to see the first team players but im sure they’d be happy if they knew we’d send up being 12th-THATS 12th at Christmas!!! I Carnt say im a happy clapper or Micks biggest fan but you carnt argue with the way its going at the moment. This season is all about survival-nothing else counts! We are a bigger club than 2 thirds of the Prem teams but theyve had years and years of Prem money to establish themselves while we’re struggleing to catch up.If we survive this year theres going to be a lot of teams scared of us and maybe next season we can go to Man U or Chelsea expecting to get a result. We need 100% unity now,we’ve still got lots of hard work and hard games to come-dosent look like theres going to be a ‘Derby or Sunderland’ this season so every point counts! A Mention for KEVIN DOYLE-an absolute £6.5M pound BARGAIN! I Thought he had a bit of ANDY MUTCH about him the way he struts about with his pidgeon chest linking up/holding up play but yesterday it was like STEVE BULL in his prime,’bullying’ defenders and chasing every lost cause, propper forward play. And SEB looked back to his best, someones going to get a tanking from him soon! Lets all stick together,we’re halfway there now,lay off Mick, hes going to keep us up and really thats all we want!!!

I agree with 4 wanderer, a good 3 points won but the performance was way short of premiership. Looking at the form tables this morning we are higher than Liverpool, so come on lets go for it Mick.

The result on Sunday vindicated Mick’s decision to an extent, but there still remains a nagging doubt about Tuesday. I know we lost to Man Utd reserves with a full side in the cup, but their defence is so dodgy at the moment, I think we could have sneaked something at Old Trafford with a full strength team.
It’s great to be in 12th place at Christmas, but its tight at the bottom and a couple of teams have games in hand, so let’s not get carried away.
We have shown that we can stay up, but we won’t get many away days like the one at Tottenham, so we need to take more points from clubs around us in the second half of the season if we are to stay in the top flight.
Looking a lot more positive than it was a couple of weeks ago though!

A welcome and much needed 3 points yesterday,BUT a reality check is needed here.Burnley have the worst away record and most goals conceded in the prem.Still they managed to make us look very ordinary at times and against a better team we may well have been beaten. It is not a case of whether or not i like/dislike MM but his team selections/formations continue to worry me.Stearman a left footer playing right back Foley player of the year midfield,Zubar 2.5 million champions league experience not even on the bench.Burnley created quite a few decent chances that teams such as Liverpool and Man city would probably have buried.Still 12th position for xmas is a lovely place to be.HAPPY XMAS to all Wolves supporters wherever you may be.

Good win yesterday-nice one Mick and the lads, as for Mick not liking the fans – well thats laughable, the only positive comment on this page comes from………………..a baggies fan well said baggie68 it just shows how much crap some “wolves fans” spout when it takes a baggies fan to show you the way forward,as for disrespect! you are being disrespectfull to the players that put on the shirt on Tuesday-they are part of the first team squad, every one of them were on yesterday’s team sheet (in the match day mag), so get over it, as for Hughes? well that really is talking garbage! Super Mick is our manager and long may it continue…some of you have the audacity to call yourselves wolves fans pah!
We are Wolves………….merry xmas to all TRUE Wolves fans.

Well done the team. It’s still tight at the bottom but we can breathe easily for a while.
The incident last Tuesday was still wrong, and I just hoope that we see “normal” squad rotation in future from our manager. He seems to have realised that playing people in their favoured roles produces better results. We had the same last season and our fortunes improved when Mick stopped rotating player positions, and I hope that we will see the same again this season.
I think that the team is good enough for mid-table if we can get a couple more quality signings in January, and Mick becomes Mr Sensible!

That’s disappointing. I was hoping at least one headline would scream:

Phil you say Bolton and Burnley are 2 very poor teams, what about Spurs ? If they are 2 very poor teams I assume you think we are better than them and will finish higher than them in the league. That means we only need to finish higher than ONE more team.
What is it exactly that you are trying to say ?
If we finish 17th I though it was mission accomplished and in terms of points required we are halfway there.

Great result yesterday, shame about last Tuesday, and it has been a long time since we were in mid-table of the top division, and it feels good again!

An ordinary first half and improved second half against a relatively ordinary team. Im not moaning, just putting a bit of a reality check on things. That said, as someone wisely said above, all we need to do is beat the teams around us and nick the odd result against the bigger clubs. Given what Ive seen in last few weeks, we can do that.
Enjoyed yesterday. Thought Milijas wasnt as good as he can be but still showed flashes of why he should be picked every week. Doyle was outstanding, Jarvis much improved and the defence looked as solid as it has for some time.
Still agree with some others here that we cant stand still in jan transfer window. Need reserve left back who’s not George. Need a right sided midfielder who can beat opponents and put in crosses and need another proven goalscorer. SEB was good yesterday but Big Chris and Hoff dont look like they could hit a cows backside with a banjo at present.

Still Mick’s decision making rests uneasily with some. Even to the continuation of abuse from the very few. More ups and downs to come-reality. He’ll get it sort of right; imperfectly.
As for the Hoff and Iwelumo in the same starting team-special planning permission needed/flaky idea, but quiant.

May i please point out that WBA didnt actually get relegated till the final week of the season and not at christmas.
Has for the wolves team you will need 45 points to stay up because most team are hovering about the 20s at the moment portsmouth to beat the drop.

So we beat a poor Burnley team after lucky wins against Bolton and Spurs. Does this make up for the woeful performances against West Ham, Portsmouth, Hull, Blues and Arsenal at home and Chelsea and Blackburn away??
Only time will tell whether we can muster up enough points to stay in this division, as I feel that we will be back in the bottom 3 come the end of December.

Merry xmas Mick, merry xmas players and merry xmas to all wolves fans!
We are in twelfth place in the top flight for the first time in a long old time. Whatever happened to the baggies telling us we would be relegated by xmas? Three wins out of four this month and I believe our work rate and team spirit could get us a positive result at Anfield on Boxing day. I think that Mick made a tough but right call with the Man Utd team selection, and I think it means yesterdays team will play both games in the xmas period because of it.
I also agree with some other posters who think we should look at signing Eagles. Wolves look short of players in the wide midfield areas. I hope we can find some more creativity in the transfer window. Maybe a mobile creative forward with a forward roll, bow and arrow goal celebration that has played with doyle before at international level, has played for Mick before and has played for us before?
Bring Robbie Keane home! Please mister Morgan, please Jez, please Mick! We all dream of a team of robbie keane’s!

time for a relity check yes better teams than burnley would have buried those numerous crosses which mostly came in from thier right, and they were poor and have the worst away record in the premier, BUT guess what after we lost to birmingham 99% of fans were so depondent that we were already relegated, since then we,ve dispatched bolton, spurs, burnley and with a few additions in jan we will survive and i for one dont believe spurs away was a freak result and one or more of the better teams will lose to wwfc.

yes it was a good result and we are all pleased. But this result does not justify playing a reserve team at Old Trafford. We would have beaten a poor Burnley side anyway. At least a point against Man U. was possible playing the first team.A win would have left us all feeling alot more comfortable.Instead we will be back in trouble by the new year. What team will the Muppet play at Anfield and against Man City? Will we have to wait until we play West Ham to see the first team again? Get ure money out Moxey I want my 42 pounds back.

i’d like to think that most on here only have the best interest of WWFC at heart. But over the past couple months ive noticed that some of old ‘faces’ that used to post somewhat enlightened snippets have disappeared and this board has deteriorated into nothing more than slagging match.
No one can argue that Mick has made some brilliant decisions in his time here. Signing Michael Kightly and SEB to blast us to championship glory, and bringing in Doyle and Milijas to give us atleast a glimmer of hope of staying up in the Prem.
He and Moxey’s frugality have seen us financially stable and the potential to achieve big things in the future.
You cannot argue however that at times the decisions made have been questionable, team selections often at the epicentre, compounded by mysterious fall outs with players during practice… all of which is compounded by his inability to manage the press, and poor P.R. in general.
There’s a strong case for both sides of the argument and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but coming on to simply slag each other off is absolutely pointless.
Merry Christmas All.

45 points??? what are you on. 21 points are currently top half. All season any team with more points than games played had been clear of the relegation zone. Therefore a 39 point finish will see us stay up. I’m willing to wage money 39 points IS enough. Therefore we are currently above target. If I were you baggie id be more concerned with keeping hold of 2nd place as Newcastle will win the league and you now have Forest breathing down your neck.

Very happy with the result, another clean sheet is fantastic and also happy for MM. He made a really tough decision and it has paid off for us, sadly those who went to the Man U game will still feel cheated. I was happy with the overall performance and energy levels, again craddock, doyle, miljas with his better technique are the pick for me.
I dont really care whether I’m seen as a moaner, I just give my honest opininon.
We all know how MM teams are set out,to close people down with high energy levels and fast pace games, not pretty but effective. but tell me this can this squad keep this up for the rest of the season when must of the game you dont have the ball? We simply dont have enough quality particularly in midfield and could not keep the ball and pass even when we were 2 nil up. This hands the game back to the opposition instead of killing the game off and better teams than burnley would have been allowed back into the game. I really hope SEB gets a goal and he is getting there, but the headed chance he had at this level he really should have scored by heading away from the keeper. He really wont get much better chances. On my january transfer wishlist, can we have a midfielder that can defend and looks comfortable on the ball. Also I’d look for another central defender again one who can pass out of defence, but has some pace, as berra and craddock are a little slow as a pairing but have been effective. We really need more goals and so I think another stiker is also needed, at the very least we need more legs as I think as the season goes on some will become a little tired.I hope kightly is back too before long, or MM will need to look for another winger as jarvis has done well.
