Alex McLeish’s in-form side found themselves on the backfoot for the first time in a while through Diniyar Bilyaletdinov’s opener after five minutes, after Louis Saha’s inviting knock down had put the ball into his path.
Blues’ golden touch aided them in their first attack on 22 minute as Sebastian Larsson got the equaliser, Christian Benitez teeing up the ball for the Swede to steer the ball away from goalkeeper Tim Howard and into the net.
Everton manager David Moyes was left outraged after the Goodison Park outcrys for a Stephen Carr handball in the area – but there was no contact.
Saha also had a goal chalked off for offside.
