Wolves raring to go warns Henry
Saturday 19th December 2009, 11:35AM GMT.
Wolves captain Karl Henry has insisted the team are ready to put a full throttle performance in against Burnley.
Boss Mick McCarthy has faced a firestorm of criticism this week for making 10 changes for Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.
But skipper Henry feels the manager was not only right, but thanked him for doing it because the regulars are all fresh and ready.
“Whatever team is picked against Burnley, the players that played against Tottenham are a lot fresher,” said Henry.
“We’re in the best possible shape we could be in.
“I thank the manager for that and the players do as well – he has our full backing.
“The gaffer made a big decision in the week, but he made it in the best interests of the club and the players.
“I’m sure he agonised over it – it wasn’t one he could have taken lightly. But win, lose or draw against Burnley, I back the manager’s decision 100 per cent.
“I think it was a big, brave decision but it has given us more chance to win this game.
“He knows it’s a humungous one for us and we’re now in the best possible physical shape.
“All the lads feel fresher for it. There were a few knocks – I got a knock on my ankle that was I semi-worried about.
“I’m always willing to play through niggles which isn’t always the best thing to do, but I now feel fine.
“There were a few others as well but we’re all raring to go.
“Injuries have been happening all over the place – we lost Dave Edwards last week with Michael Kightly and Andy Keogh – so the gaffer wanted everyone ready for the Burnley match.”
Wolverhampton-born Henry feels for the fans who took time off work and travelled to Old Trafford. But he feels everyone should understand the bigger picture.
“The fans have been fantastic all season – week-in, week-out, and I know they were disappointed in the week,” said the midfielder.
“But if we beat Burnley, that will go some way towards repaying them and I think the majority of them can see the bigger picture anyway.
“It’s all about us staying up this season and that’s what everyone – the chairman, the gaffer, us and all the fans – wants.
“Hopefully we can give everyone something to shout about.”
Henry acknowledges the players need to put on a performance and trusts the fans will be right behind them and the manager.
“I know supporters will be 100 per cent behind us as they always have been,” he added. And Henry is hoping they can catch Burnley on the hop after a full strength Clarets drew 1-1 with Arsenal on Wednesday. “They’ve played two games this week so hopefully we’ll be in better condition than they are,” he said. “There’s more pressure been put on us to win this game, but there’s pressure anyway.
“We’re down at the bottom and we’ve got to be able to handle that, enjoy it and go and win.” Henry says the players could afford to coast through the odd game in the Championship, but insists every sinew is being stretched by every player in the Premier League.
“Last season in the Championship we played midweek games and we could maybe take our foot off the gas slightly and still win matches,” he said. “I’m not saying we ever did, but in this league, there are long periods of the game where we don’t see the ball.
“We’re all working so hard in every game and if anyone’s anything less than 100 per cent, we don’t win games. We all realise every one of us has got to be bang on, fully focused and committed in every game. That’s how we were in the two games prior to Manchester United.
“We flew out of the blocks against Bolton and we were fantastic and we were the same for the full 96 minutes against Tottenham.
“We got the goal and gave ourselves something to defend and the supporters there that day could see how much we put into that. I also think the lads did tremendously well against Manchester United and I think it’s a bit disrespectful to them that they’re being labelled reserves because they aren’t.”

Im not McCarthy’s biggest fan and what happened on tuesday was wrong but tomorrow everyone should give the team and manager a rousing reception as the whole football world will be looking on hoping for a negative response. Lets not give them that, get behind the team and 3 more points. Then move on as what has been done can’t be undone.

The important target for this season has always been to avoid relagation.
Realistically we were never going to win the Premiership, win a Champion league place or even UEFA spot.
McCarthy has given his players the best preparation ahead of the game against Burnley to win three points. It is up to the players to respond positively and the genuine fans to support them to make it happen.
The Old Trafford issue will then seem little more than a storm in a teacup.

Stop the bickering and support the team to the absolute maximum tomorrow.
Good luck lads.

Trained to fantastic fitness levels, playing in the best league in the world an average of 1 game per week I feel really sorry for players who get tired easily.Mick, you are a moron of unbelievable incompetence your record in the top flight prooves it.January is nearly upon us let us see 2/3 top players come in and then perhaps fans may be able to warm towards you.Best of luck for Sunday lads, lets give Burnley hell.

I am so pleased we are going all out for the win I thought that was the general idea about playing football !
I know they both played at home but both Burnley & Portsmouth have taken points off the so called big 4 this week. Sunday a must win – good luck lads !

2, was going to say that. If I work extra hard one day and am feeling tired, can i have the next day off??? lol
I can see the point the manager is making and what he is saying but in my view as a paying customer who had a Man Utd ticket, its a disgrace.
Mick, Burnley drew with Arsenal at the weekend, Portsmouth beat Liverpool today……..with full teams.

we will see after sunday even when no matches we never play well with 14days rest hope it works mick

Henry,
Keep yor trap shut and do your talking on the field. Mcarthy was out of order and you know it!!

So going back to the Man U game, Wenger reckons that McCarthy devalued the premiership by fielding an almost complete reserve team does he?
Whats the Carling Cup, if it to is not a serious competition? Yet he (as do plenty of others) regularly fields a reserve team in it….he should remember the saying, People who live in glass houses shouln’t throw stones.

Just to inject some humour, can we sing some songs celebrating Robbie Keane’s idea of taking the Spurs squad on a boozy trip to Dublin before our game.

Looks like Fulham put on a “Full throttle performance” against MU today (3-0).
I hope our “full throttle” display on Sunday is a bit better than the perfomances against West Ham, Hull City, Portsmouth, Birmingham. etc. etc..
I agree with #1. Talk on the Pitch not in the paper.

Just a suggestion to Mr Morgan and Mr Moxey. Mark Hughes will be free in an hour and half.

So the Young and Hungry JELLY BABBIES can,t put in two shifts per week.Maybe they should have an afternoons sleep and rest their little tootsies.
If he only talked ‘on the pitch and not in the paper’ then the express and star would have blank pages and whats the point of that?

Can the people being so flipent please stop. If you were tired at work it would not effect your physical peak fitness.
A footballer could not play everyday. They are human beings who need to be given TIME to recouperate form waht was without doubt a hardworking game against Spurs. Get over yourselves and support the team.

Once again our ridiculous manager is shown to have been wrong. Man U are in problems and Fulham took the game to them and smacked their botties.
We could have done the same last Tuesday, instead of walking out with our hands up! We gave them 3 points that they might not have earned, but now we’ll never know.
SHAME ON THE 3M’s FOR SURRENDERING BEFORE THE BALL WAS KICKED!
Have to echo the previous comments regarding the Man. Utd game where we waved the white flag BEFORE the match. If Fulham can turn them over then there was a chance that we could have done so too but we were never up for it, or rather Mick wasn’t!
That decision could really come back to haunt him, no matter how he tries to defends why he did it!

just do it on the pitch,im sick of listening to this garbage, from this lot ! it will be apologies on monday, then on wednesday they will be telling us how one of them is a worldbeater !and god help the premiership teams ! is this a wolves players “in ” joke or something cause its lost on me.but please no more its embarrassing

The match day Mag shows the team sheet! the team put out on tuesday was from that squad-8 full internationals + 5 U21′s! it’s gone get over it and support the lads, has for those from afar-7 you are the moron bud because you keep mouthing off the same old crap-now go back to your full time job-supporting the blue and white of tesco.
Win, lose or draw tomorrow we are still 3 points better off because none of you gave us a chance against Spurs (mind you some of you never give us a chance against anybody)let’s get the Golden Palace rocking against Burnley!
Super, Super Mick, Super, Super Mick, Super Mick McCarthy………..We are Wolves……….

whats done is done right or wrong, as for being over paid well not really, but a top performance to the best of there ability is expected every time they pull on the gold and black…i for one thing its good to see the club captian rally around his manager with the backing of the team
as the world attacks our famous club we as fans should also show our passion for our old gold and black who ever is in charge and who ever is playing … they are after all our babbies and if we are not fickle wolves fans as many describe us we should show are support as one
if you want a top class manager and world class players now get a x box…if you want them in the future let the lads and staff do what they are paid for and let the club build in the direction it is
oh and prey for a robbie return sooner rather than later

Man U are wounded and Fulham proved today how bad they are.
Our moronic manager chose instead to surrender and give them 3 points; the man is a managerial disaster and the sooner he is sacked and we get somebody in with intelligence the better for the Wolves.
I don’t want to go back down to the Championship, but under this idiot that is almost a certainty!
why do the players shout there mouths off in the e&s surely its going to take it out of them and they will be to tired to play, dont worry we will be 100% percent behind them but not the manager after what he done i would say at least 80% of fans will never forgive mad mick for his so called tactics especially if we dont win against burnley!but mad mick new best didnt he we shall see,,,,WE ARE WOLVES,,,ilk

Fulham 3 Man U 0. Goes to show that if we only had a go we may have got something from the game. Macarthy’s mis-guided methods have disgraced the good name of Wolves and has instilled an inferiority complex throughout the club.
It makes the Game against Burnley today even more meaningful and high-pressured.
Hope we win of course but I also hope that Moxey and Morgan see the results of other teams that are playing the “big” teams currently. It was not cut in stone that we would have lost no matter what team we put out as claimed by MM.
Liverpool are coming up – as a “big” team albeit in a bad patch, are we going to go for it or be intimidated by their reputation again? Portsmouth werent yesterday as they beat them 2-0.
As for Henry – perhaps he would get more praise from the fans if he actually did some attacking and not just keep passing the ball back to the keeper who then boots it upfield for us to lose the ball. A shot now and again would also help to keep the opposing keeper on their toes. And who know’s we may get lucky and get a goal from it.

watched the Fulham-Utd game live on tv here in Malta,Utds defensive frailties were there for all to see.Never will we have a better chance to get something from Old Trafford than on tuesday. If we dont get all three points today MM should hang his head in shame.

If we fail to beat Burnley all the pressure is back on Mick, as it should be. Without putting a dampener on it, if we fail to win today realistically I think we are down – its that important.
