Shoppers were hitting the streets early today early in a bid to beat the Christmas queues.

Hoping to grab some last minute bargains in Wolverhampton was sales assistant Robert Palmer, aged 44, who was out before 9am with daughter Georgia, nine, and her 11-year-old friend Paige Dawson.

“I’m trying to get it all done today,” said Mr Palmer, who has travelled from Gloucester to visit friends and family. “I’m not letting the recession bother me at all. I think it’s been built up a bit to be honest. I have no more or no less money than this time last year. I’m going to make sure I enjoy myself this Christmas.”
