Moxey makes a plea for unity
Friday 18th December 2009, 11:30AM GMT.
Chief executive Jez Moxey today insisted Wolves will respond in writing to every disgruntled fan who has contacted the club following manager Mick McCarthy’s decision to field a weakened team against Manchester United on Tuesday.
McCarthy made 10 changes to the team that won at Tottenham three days earlier for the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford, and both the Wolves boss and Moxey are acutely aware of the anger at the decision among the gold and black masses, more than 2,500 of whom made the trip up the M6.
The Express & Star has been inundated with complaints from supporters and Moxey says the club has also received a fair amount of correspondence on the issue.
“We will be writing to everyone who has contacted us about this issue, as is our normal policy when anyone contacts us,” said Moxey. “Letters will start going out today to supporters.”
Moxey doesn’t see why they should be punished by the authorities for doing something several other clubs have done in the past. And he believes a united Wolves is the only way forward to help the club in its battle to ensure Premier League survival.
“We are all in this together and we all want to stay in the Premier League. I think it’s wise that we start focusing on Sunday’s game,” he said.
“We have to put the events at Manchester United behind us and for us that means looking forward to Burnley. It’s obviously a very important game for everyone at the club and for every supporter.
“I’m sure they will get behind us and we’re all looking forward to an exciting game. The atmosphere inside Molineux is so important and we want them to play their part in us playing well against Burnley, as I’m sure they will do.”
Meanwhile, reports claim out-of-favour keeper Wayne Hennessey has turned down a four-year contract offer. The Wales international only signed a four-and-a-half-year extension last January, tieing the 22-year-old to the club until 2012.
Hennessey has recently lost his place to Marcus Hahnemann.

DISGRACE. I want a refund with my letter.
Loyal Supporter, supporting Wolves threw fick (mick) and thin.
Worse than Chorley and I was there as well

Just put a £42 cheque in every envelope Jaz, make sure the team win Sunday and then everyone will move on. More platitudes and ‘what’s the fuss about’ speeches won’t do the job.

How about a free pie on Sunday aswell Moxey?

Another slap in the face for fans. We are treated as sheep by Moxey who expect us to put up but shut up.

If you want a refund, try writing to Manchester United FC – they are the ones who charged you £42. Otherwise, grow up and get over it.

Happy clappers don’t go to away games.
When we fans chant that we are Wolves, we will be taunted as surrender monkeys. Worse, they are right!
It can’t be brushed under the carpet, as we will suffer taunts about this forever, and the other big 3 teams now carry a grudge, unless we surrender to them as well.
How about Villa nearly top 4, will we surrender there as well?
Mick’s decision was right.
Had the team been properly “up for it” they would have beaten a patched up UTD side and you would be happy.
Now we go in to a crucial game with a rested team on the back of 2 wins.
Wolves fans are generally stupid. It’s sad.
Moxey’s right ‘we are all in this together’ its done now lets concentrate on sundays game.
QUESTION – If we would of won tuesday would people be moaning?
Get behind the whole club & lets see where we are at the end of the season.
How tedious is it listening to our own fans? Half of you sound like West Br*m immitations and the other half have less understanding than a child. Mick and Jez have said why they did ‘it’ and i fully back them.
How naive are our fans thinking that our players can play 2, and sometimes 3 games in the space of a week and compete to their maximum on each occasion? I understand the frustration of the fans who travelled up and expected to see a full strength but what i don’t understand is the people who can’t grasp what Mick did and why he did it!
I imagine the same fans would be moaning if we’d played a full team on Tuesday and lost 2-0 (which would have been a good result seeing as we lost 3-1 at Blackburn and 4-0 at Chelsea) and then lost to Burnley on Sunday due to tiredness.
Get over it lads.
We Are Wolves.
These moaning Wolves fans can’t see beyond the end of their noses.
There is a bigger picture here. Support the team OR SHUT UP
Report abuse
I am as annoyed as the next man regarding the Man. Utd fiasco and I find it difficult to forget it BUT we must all look to Sunday’s game now and put our moans and groans to rest for a few days and that means also ignoring what Jez Moxey has previously said about ‘all the fuss’!
McCarthy hopefully(?) will play the Tottenham team against Burnley and we will see if the rest did in fact do them good. Of course if we are defeated come Sunday… well, let’s wait and see!
The FA and whoever will do their investigations into what happened so let US, the supporters, get on with supporting our team, for we all want Wolves to remain in the Premier League and no matter how much we write or criticise about THAT game, it has gone, confined to history and cannot be changed – life (and football) moves on, we must too!

I hope to God we beat Burnley on Sunday, I dread to think of the consequences if we don`t. It could turn quite nasty and frankly the club deserve the flack which they have brought on them selves with their pig headed arrogance and disregard for the supporters.
8,How are wolves fans stupid? You can not dress it up MM Waved the white flag and gave the 3 points to UTD time will tell how important the decision will be.Burnley will not be easy and they will not just turn up and roll over.No team can maintain any sort of consistancy with the amount of chopping and changeing that goes on at Wolves.Lets hope for the 3 points on sunday and a more settled team (injuries permitting) for the rest of the season.

7 – you are everything that’s wrong with Wolves.
Here’s a line by line answer to your rambling:
Happy Clappers do go. I went. We just don’t talk to idiots.
No we wont.
Taunted forever? Are you serious? When we stay up, we will be justified. A “grudge” with the big 4? Who cares? They play a different game. Man Utd did not have it that easy mate.
Villa – shut up. It’s the circumstance (fitness, time between games, significance of next fixture) that led to the team selection. NOT the fact that it was Utd.
Firstly – I went.
And they could have fielded 11 fat controllers for I’m concerned as long as they wanted the shirt. I’ll support the manager until I lose my respect or doubt his ability. Neither of which I feel towards Mick. The lads that played did well and they should be credited with that.
I love this story – we dont get 10 mins on Match of the Day because we are not worthy to the masses – all of a sudden we hit the top spot!
Oh and to the moaners – have a chat between yourselves and decide how you want to play on Saturday – get a team together so you’re all happy. You pay your money and it sounds like that gives you the right to say who you see.
And if you want to see what you pay for – its Panto season and you can go and see that – the casts are all up on paper well before the performance…..but look out……like your comments – put it behind you!
and…..I went to tesco’s the other day – I didn’t get served by the girl who served me last time – I want my money back as well!!!

Mr Moxey says that Wolves should not be punished for doing something that other clubs have done before. Can anyone tell me of a single occasion where a manager has dropped all his best outfield players for a match against a better team?
It is one thing for a good team to rotate the squad and leave out some better players when they are facing a team who are not as good. But it completely different, and unprecedented for a low team to leave his best players out against a top team.

And therefore his duty is to Wolves and that is for the season and not just for one match.
We are in the mini league fighting for survival, and if we survive he has done his job – if we dont survive he can face the music.
What ever side Man Utd put out in the week we were unlikely to win when compared to Burnley.

The most depressing, no disgraceful, aspect of all this is so called supporters continue with the frenzied public criticism of ALL the players that went out to represent Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on Tuesday night.
All this bickering is, I reckon, doing more harm because it shows we have dis-unity on the terraces which could transfer itself onto the pitch if we don’t watch out.
Stop putting the players and the club down.
PLEASE MOVE ON AND SUPPORT THE TEAM (whoever wears the shirt) BIG AND LOUD.
Thankyou

I would suggest that my view would be similar to thousand of Wolves fans who have forgiven McCarthy all season for his stupidity and continued tampering with a team of lads trying to survive in the big time.
The episode at Manchester United, after a magnificant game against Spurs was radical and in my view wrong, and will do nothing for the lads confidence against Burnley on Sunday.
Make no mistake, Burnley will not be a walk over and after all of the News reports, comments and finger pointing…will put additional pressure on the Wolve players not only to win but win well, which will save face again for the boss.
If the unthinkable happens and we fail to win this game at home, then McCarthy must fall on his sword, because the CEO will be unavailable and is unlikely to stand up for him again.

20. Malta. I don’t think you understand how footballers condition themselves. The fitness training they participate in basically allows them to be at full fitness for 90-100 minutes (if you didn’t know that is a football match + injury time). Recovery time for players varies dependent on age, fitness (match and general) etc.
It is exactly the same as marathon runners are trained to run the distance and no more, and rugby players are trained for 80min fitness bursts.
Do you think players play at match level in training? You are deluded if you do.
I’m not against those who are angry about Tuesday night, I just wish they would…what’s the saying…’Change the record’?…

7) I think you will find that Villa sent a team of young kids and reserves out in Moscow and fans who went there probably ended up spending anything between £500 and a grand to watch a proper reserve team. Not like our so called second string that boasted 4 full internationals and 3 under 21′s.
This topic is boring me. A day after Old Trafford, Pompey rested 7 and nothing was said!
We have got Ferguson, Moyes, Warnock, Pulis and Taylor backing our decision. Enough said!

It was the prospect of beating Burnley next Sunday that inspired the Wolves manger to field a weakened team at Manchester United last Tuesday evening. Seemingly, he was misled by his fear of United. The consequences of his action are enormous, having implications far beyond the insular concerns of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves do not opperate in ,without regards to rules of social responsibility. They have a duty of care to other teams in the Premier League, and are in breach of that “Duty of Care.”
Indeeed, the Wolves manager is guilty of one critical omission, that of fair play.
What if Wolves find themselves in a desperate relegation position at the end of the season, where servival depends on one of their relation opponents loosing th efinal game? And what if Arsenal or Chelsea field a weakened team against the opponent, allowing the team to win, causing Wolves to be relegated? How pleased would Wolves be?
Having handed Manchester United three points as they did last Tuesday is inexcusable. There is no good reason to believe that Wolves could not have beaten United, as they did Tottenham. The obsequious and fawning manner in which he gunuflected to Manchester United was an insult and a denegration of the club.
The Football Association Should never allow such a thing to happen again. In fact, it would not be inconceivable for them to have the game game eplayed, ensuring that two teams of equal take place.
The wolves manger runs the risk of looking rather fooolish, should his team fail to beat Burnley on Sunday.

Why are we all missing the point? This in my opinion raises a much more worrying issuefor the rest of the season. Having played late afternoon and won at Man U. Villa travelled to Sunderland played the same 11 and won again! Bolton involved in a thrilling energy saping 3-3 draw then played pretty much the same team and beat West Ham picking up valuable points. Spurs played the same 11 except Keane and beat the money boys 3-0 and all on the same night that our so called top 11 were too tired to turn out! Simple question then, why are our so called “young and hungary” not also capable of doing the same? Does this 9 out of 10 nonsense only apply to newly promoted teams? Did anyone playing for Bolton, Villa or Spurs get injured or limp off exhausted at half time…not to my knowledge. Some with medical knowledge explain please. Yes I did travel half way round England to get to the game ( I do a 240 mile trip for a home game!)

The pressure is really on McCarthy because if they lose to Burnley, he’ll get slaughtered in the papers the next day.

can’t believe that decision. It was the perfect time to go to Manchester United; it was a Tuesday night, United had just lost to Villa, they had a makeshift back four and Wolves were coming off a good win.
There have been plenty of strange results this year and anything could have happened. Burnley drew with Arsenal in midweek and Portsmouth gave Chelsea a game, so there’s no reason why Wolves couldn’t get a result at United.
Manchester United have not been rampant this year and I don’t think they’d have knocked the stuffing out of the Wolves first team. That was a “free swing” for Wolves, there was no pressure on them, so why leave so many players out?
Wolves were playing Saturday-Tuesday-Sunday, so there was ample recovery time for the players. Also, many of those lads worked hard to get promotion last season – and they did that to play at places like Old Trafford. Will they be happy to miss out on that so they can focus on Burnley at home?
The words of Paul Merson on the sky sports website.Sums it all up in my opinion.

I was at the game on Tuesday & didn’t get home until 3.30am.
Do I have a problem with Mick rotating the squad?
Absolutely not.
Having seen the boys at the end of the game on Saturday, they were absolutely knackered. Expecting them to be able to recover and play at 100% after only 48 hours is just wishful thinking.
What disappointed me more than anything at OT was the fact that Wolves fans were chanting ‘to watch the reserves’ – please tell me how on earth that helped the team. Fair enough, if you have to, complain after the game to the Club but to do it during the game was an absolute disgrace and will not have helped the team.
We will not be judged purely by our ‘best team’ but the squad as a whole – it doesn’t matter what we think of individuals, if they are trying their best we have to get behind them.
Let’s get the Mol rocking on Sunday and inspire our team to 3 valuable points.

Although I agree with McCarthys decision in principle he went overboard and played a defeatest team who could never beat manu, players get injured in training more often than in games it seems (for wolves) so why ever train if you’re worried about injuries.
I’ll support the team just like everyone else whether we win or lose on sunday, but I and everyone else there on tuesday has the right to complain about what happened. Moxey can moan and groan about fans standing, so we can moan at them for the squad. Regardless of how every many internationals we played on tuesday, most were not good enough.

According to Mick, they were first team players. Maybe they are… just not at Wolves.
I know the Big Four rotate their squads. The fact is they’ll still win games by doing this. McCarthy, whether he likes it or not, chose to lose.
The big clubs do rotate their squads but never against a better team and as said they tend to win.
Disgraceful. I dread to think what will happen if we fail to win now against a now well fired up Burnley, no team talk needed there now.
Look up arrogant in the dictionary and there’s a picture of Moxey. He really does believe the fans are a necessary evil rather than the lifeblood of the club.
He’s knows nothing about football or the fans love of the club, he also fails to understand the fact, again due to his arrogance, that the majority of the Wolves fans know a heck of a lot more about the game than he does. Just shut up you overpaid fool.
I hope we beat Burnley. Because if we don’t this season, due to the idiots running the show, will go into terminal meltdown.

While the Wolves away fan support is impressive in numbers, compared with the other Premiership teams, it does not provide us with enough revenue to worry about the numbers dropping, as most revenue goes to the opposition team anyway, we just earn commision on ticket sales.
The main thing is that we keep the Molineaux filled to capacity, and of course, enjoy high revenue from refreshments and the team shop.
The teams campaign this season could result in a record balance sheet! Keep up the good work Mr Moxey.

Ok, here’s something to consider:
If the ‘Spurs’ Wolves 11 played the ‘Man U’ Wolves 11, what would the score be?
I think it would be pretty close.
Close enough to say all our first team squad are pretty well the same level. When 7 of the Man U team that played are many fans 1st choice anyway, (Hahnemann, Zubar, Mancienne, Castillo, Foley, Iwelumo, Jarvis) really what is the fuss actually about?
Are Mick’s critics actually upset that he finally did what they wanted & dropped SEB, Berra & Henry as they’ve been demanding all season? Critics were also outraged that Mick should bring Ward back in recent weeks, but how dare he now be dropped.
If the Man U game had have followed the Blues game…then most fans would probably have DEMANDED we dramtic changes to the team sheet.
If we’d lost against Spurs it would all have been different…so I guess the problem is that we actually won one, due to Spurs being so bad. So bad Spurs players were actually fighting with their angry fans after the game. We dug in & held on grateful that Spurs squandered everything, and didn’t play like they did against Wigan. If we played Spurs again does anyone really think we’d win again?
The only contentious team choice as I see it were Hill & Friend. They’ll be glad to know that daring to play such unworthy players has led to a week long Nationwide enquiry. Its obviously irrelevant that those two both played pretty well at Old Trafford, far better than all those against Blues & Chelsea.
The actual issue here is we have no obvious first 11. Not many fans agree who are the strongest 11.
As many have pointed out the new signings are no better or worse( Doyle apart) than those we’d already got.
Some would say we have a squad of 22 first team reserves plus Doyle, and some of them just happened to get lucky at Spurs.
Simon :)

There is a legal concept called “duty of care”.
When the fans bought tickets for the away game there was no suggestion that there would be 10 substitutions. Would they have bought those tickets if they knew that there would be 10 changes to the team?
The argument is whether the management at Wolves were in breach of their duty of care to those 3,000 supporters when they decided to almost totally alter the team to the lesser favoured players in the squad.
My own opinion is that Wolves haven’t got a leg to stand on. They failed totally in their duty of care to their fee paying supporters.
The subsequent fabricated justifications for the change do not stand up.
Sorry, that’s how it is… IMHO

Mocking someone’s spelling is not what we do on these boards. Your comments will be treated with contempt by those who encourage everyone to contribute.
The web must belong to the people and not a small, smug, well-educated minority. We went there with the class wars!
SHAME ON YOU!

Burnley are coming here with testosterone levels at overflow level. We are going up against them with good percentage muscle condition, based on some quakes perception of what is good. The same team failed to put up to Manure because it might affect them in their game against Burnley!
Guess which team I think will go into the game with most testosterone?
Our guys will be ashamed and disappointed at having missed the game at manure! That might have been the only opportunity for some of them to play there.
Why do I think that Burnley will give us a good, and fully deserved, spanking?
They have indulged in a healthy, stand up and fight morality and they have come out winning.
We have mad mick trying to be a psychiatrist! Our team are full of confusion and anticipating a campaign failure, some are already planning their ways out of our morass.
Witness Hennessy refusing to sign again, obviously thinks that a transfer elsewhere is preferable. Can’t blame him!

Norway Wolf, Try looking at the last match of 1964/5 at Molineux. A complete reserve side was fielded by Liverpool, five days before the FA Cup Final. Their manager at the time went by the name of Shankly.

Merci bien mon ami, spelling Molineux correctly is not intuitive when you speak any other latin based languages.
Just mocking posts with a single spelling error is a sign of a very low intellect!
Nothing more needs to be said…,

travelled over from ireland for the game on tuesday was also there on sat. home and away season ticket holder. was i dissapointed no i saw a good game of football i taught we held on to the ball better on tuesday than at spurs on the previous saturday.mick mc carty job was to get wolves within 3 years which he did ,his job this season is to keep us in the premership,he is the gaffer he makes the decisions that he feels is best for the club to make the decision he made takes baxxs. i have no doubt we will still be in the premership next season i brought my son to both games i did not get back home till wed evening €400.00 cost of trip.my biggest dissapointment was the anti irish comments that where been brandish about by baffoons in the second half

Burnley will be so geared up for this one Owen Coyle wont even need to say anything to his players. Can Wolves win, i hope so, i am very nervous i must admit, i was really optimistic after last Saturday going into Tuesday, but then that happens, now i dont know

I had to LOL at this…UNITED??? It shows how united we are when Morgan hasn’t uttered a word…I’d like to hear him say something…or is he too busy with his beloved Liverpool? hmmm.
Moxey, I wil always support the wolves…No rediculous decision will eve stop me…BUT I WILL NEVER SUPPORT YOU! You are rude and arrogant and need to get a load of yourself…whilst you can sit on your 6 figure salary…the rest of us FANS have to dig into our pockets in these hard times in order to make it to every home and away match…Your complete diregard towards the fans really isn’t needed in this club.
You best hope for yours and the rest of your team’s sake that we win tomorrow.

C’mon lads, this is like the North Bank arguing with the South Bank…..We are ALL in it together and need to support manager AND team. It’s hard enough surviving in Prem without internal acrimony.
Stand UP and clap em hard tomorrow. Wish I could be there to do it meself.
