Byfield signs new Saddlers deal

Friday 18th December 2009, 11:29AM GMT.

darren-byfieldDarren Byfield has committed his future to Walsall after signing a new deal until 2011.

The seven-goal striker penned a new 18-month contract with a year’s option last night after impressing since returning to the club in August.

The Saddlers welcome Leyton Orient in League One tomorrow and Byfield, whose deal was due to expire next month, has revealed his delight in extending his stay.

“I’m absolutely over the moon,” said Byfield, who scored his 100th career goal against Southampton two weeks ago.

“This club has developed so much over the years and I am thrilled to be part of it again. The manager, Martin O’Connor and the chairman have all been brilliant to me and showed exactly how much they want me here.

“Being back in the Midlands is a big thing and being able to go to work with a smile on my face is important. The training facilities have also been a pleasant surprise and a great addition since I was last here.

“The team spirit among the lads is first class and it’s good we’re in the top half of the table.”
