Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Unfortunately due to my company’s Christmas party I cannot attend tomorrow’s game at Blackpool, writes Jarrod Hill.
Ian Holloway’s side are the surprise package so far this season and have been in and around the play-offs since the beginning when many had tipped them for the drop. More worrying for us is their knack of getting results against the sides towards the top end of the table.
The only other worry is the weather with snow and freezing temperatures forecasted, so if the game makes it, wrap up warm folks.
Blackpool have achieved some excellent results this season through playing attacking football and I am hoping they continue with that strategy tomorrow.
Our own style of play this season has often resulted in us looking more comfortable away from home especially when the home side attacks us, so I will be hoping tomorrow yields three points.
It will be interesting to see if any players suffer a fall out from Monday’s disappointment against QPR.
Common opinion is that the player most in danger of being dropped is Luke Moore.
On Monday he looked like a striker low on confidence and our comeback got going once he was replaced by Chris Wood.
Another player suffering from a loss of form is Chris Brunt, his delivery of set pieces in recent weeks has been awful, and I am sick to the back teeth of our corners being cleared by the first man. Yet with Brunty if he is on his game he can be a match winner, as can Moore, but we have seen it on to few occasions with young Luke.
If we do decide on a new strike partner for Cox, who has found his goal scoring, boots who should it be?
Bednar has looked rusty when called upon and needs games, but if he doesn’t get games I suppose the argument is he won’t get match fit. He is a tried and trusted player at this level and when fully fit will always score goals.
Another option is the boy wonder Chris Wood. The lad has never let us down when called upon and his link up play belies his tender years, but I am sure Roberto Di Matteo is looking to develop him gradually.
It will be interesting to hear the team for tomorrow, but whatever it is let’s hope for a return to winning ways.

Any chance of a blogger that actually goes to away games !?
There seems to be an excuse every other week !

Very unconvincing recently and no win in three games is worrying. I still think we will go up but as the gap in quality between this level and the premier league gets bigger it concerns me. We are a patch on the side that got promoted 2 years ago and we finished bottom with them so major investment in quality players would be needed. Quite shocked to hear we are in debt after an independent audit but hearing of Watford puts things into perspective. I would drop Brunty for tomorrow and play Dorrans, Mulumbu, Jara and Thomas in midfield.

Having been to my fair share of recruitment xmas parties i can understand why you have decided to give the game a miss – blackpool has nothing on a good agy party !!!
You mention the disappointment of QPR, but I’m hoping that our last gasp equaliser will act as a positive in the same way the last minute give-away at derby felt like a loss,
Cox is showing why he has such a big future in the game, and if we are struggling to go 2 up front maybe give him a loan striker role with Tex just behind him ??
That would help us win the midfield battle and Tex can play that role well….. if not then i would go for Chris wood.

Went to Blackpool two seasons ago. Their ground is really tiny and the pitch will be congested. This will be a real challenge for the team.

Mate the jobs yours if you want it, but i must advise you that:
Its unpaid, you get people slating you every week, and every loss or poor game you have to relive (often late at night).
I do attend away games, but due to a personal situation concerning my daughter i have been restricted this season, however when i do not attend games i dont write the blog.
Not sure why i needed to explain myself, but when someone questions your loyalty for some reason it makes me twitch, in a bad way.

You shouldn`t have to explain yourself, but you have done well, because my reply to floorcovering82 would have been unprintable.

6 – Bomber, I wouldn’t swap your blogs at all kidder. They’re always an interesting read and you give an honest (if usually extremely pessimistic) opinion.
Keep up the good work mate, and enjoy your Christmas party. Ours is taking place in our office next Wednesday and the drinking commences at 7:30am……..good times!!

10 – Tez, if it’s called off, we’ll have time to turn around at Manchester, get our Burnley tops on and make our way to the Custard Bowl to watch Burnley’s reserves beat the Wulfies!!

12. Ned I am keeping quiet on this one. It took us until the middle of January last season to get to 1 more point than the Dingles have got now. I think if we can get up we will be there with them next season.
Jarrod you do a great job mate, I wish our players would start doing the same! The last two home games have been awful and lacked any sort of quality, same for the Derby game but as it was away I cant be too harsh. What worries me about promotion is that the berth of quality between the championship and the Premier league is now even bigger and we are not a patch on the team we had two years ago. Huge investment needed.

There are plenty of reports on away games so whether Jarrod goes or not is immaterial, Matt82.
It’s his thoughts on our club, the matches he does see and his opinion of players is what I like to read. Tez, don’t imbibe too much ale in those cold Blackpool winds or you’ll become the new Blackpool pee-er. For this match I’d keep Moore with Cox. First, it’s away so Moore not so much pressure from fans, then with a cramped ground and pitch, a man with a fast turn is worth his weight in gold. What he could do with is a new pair of boots, the ones he has don’t work.

16 – Hi Shadrag
Is Mick playing the reserves again on Sunday? You are officially now the most hated team in the Premiership. According to press today Spurs were out drinking only hours before they played you, that explains that freak result then! Back to form from here I think, bottom 3 for the rest of the season with a bankrupt Pompey and West Ham.

13 & 14 – Tez, my apologies. I don’t really take too much notice of who the Wulfies are playing or when, I just wrote that to see if any of our friends would react or not, and it appears that Snowy’Baggie’ has done so!
I have no idea where we’re going for a drink yet, but if I find the Manchester pub I’ll head in there for a swift half with ya.

Due to the fact Jerome Thomas may be out for
tomorrows game then I`d go for this team.
Kiely,Zuiverloon,Meite,Olsson,Mattock,
Dorrans,Mulumbu,Jara,Teixiera,Wood,Cox.
Subs:Allsop,Martis,Cech,Thorne,Brunt,Bednar,Moore.
There`s no way in a million years that Ian Holloway will want this game to go ahead,Blackpool
have two of their best midfeilders out at the
moment David Vaughan and Charlie Adam.
If I was planning on going then I wouldnt even
bother.

If we can get a win at Blackpool it would really be a boost after the shambles of the last few home games. It will be a complete battle on the field. Come on the Baggies! Boing Boing
18- I wouldnt read too much into the Spurs drinking, Harry Redknapp has very strong views on players drinking, it was a great result but they were under the cosh for 80% of the game and come through. That is exactly where we went wrong we couldnt defend they already have double the amount of away wins we got in the prem in the whole of last season. Still were beat them if were both there next season!
