Tai agrees deal with Wolves
Wednesday 16th December 2009, 11:24AM GMT.
New speedway Grand Prix rider Tai Woffinden has sealed his 2010 deal with Wolves.
And the 19-year-old has set himself a double target for the new campaign on the world and domestic stage.
“I’ve set myself a couple of goals,” he said.
“I want to put another two points on my average, and be in the top eight in the GPs so I can stay in for another year.
“I’m going to work hard at getting those. I always set targets I think I can reach. Then I’ll set some more!”
Woffinden’s return to Monmore Green was always going to happen, even though he hasn’t actually put pen to contract.
“I haven’t signed on the dotted line for the last three years,” he said. “We just shook hands, the old-fashioned way.
“It was never in doubt. I said at the end of the season that I wanted to come back. It was going to be Wolves the whole time.”
Woffinden’s return will delight supporters after a superb debut Elite League season which saw him help the Monmore men to the league title.
The Woffinden family have always looked to long-term affiliations with teams, and that was underlined by the news that the rider will be back with Czestochowa in the Polish league, despite financial problems that have seen the club shed riders of the calibre of Nicki Pedersen, Lee Richardson and Greg Hancock.
“I agreed the contract with them on a handshake,” declared Woffinden.
l Swindon team manager Alun Rossiter is poised to make a surprise switch to Coventry. The Bees were staging a press conference this afternoon at which it is understood Rossiter, whose Robins lost last season’s Elite League final to Wolves, was being revealed as new team boss.
