Sell-off hope for doomed Easy Fit
Tuesday 15th December 2009, 11:30AM GMT.
Accountants say they are hopeful of selling a doomed Black Country conservatories firm, which went out of business with debts of more than one million pounds.
All 34 employees at Easy Fit Roofs and Conservatories, in Walsall, have been made redundant following the firm’s slide into administration.
And Jonathan Newell and Ian Gould, from Birmingham administrators PKF, said one potential buyer had expressed an interest, but that they hoped more would come forward.
Mr Newell said: “The business is under offer and negotiations are proceeding towards what we hope will be a sale in the near future.” He said the West Bromwich Road based company had a turnover of around £6 million and previously had outlets in Solihull and Leamington Spa.
Mr Gould said: “The business has been affected by the economic downturn and a lack of orders.
“Losses are substantial and creditors are likely to face a significant shortfall.
“I have received one expression of interest from a potential purchaser, but would be keen to hear from others.”
Anyone interested should contact Mr Gould on 0121 2122222.
More than 30 fitters and builders are believed to have been regular contractors for the firm – who were shirt sponsors for Walsall FC for two years – with many also having been left out of pocket.
Visitors to the site have been greeted with a sign in the window informing them the company has gone into administration, while callers hear a recorded message featuring the same information.
Employees’ last scheduled pay cheque did not clear, and administrators have said those owed money are unlikely to recoup any substantial amount.
The only realistic hope of securing some of the wages they are owed is through the government’s redundancy scheme.
Administrators say only a small number of deposits had been made with the firm over recent weeks but that they hope any future owner may honour deposits and retain staff.
It is the second firm of its type at the site to go to the wall, after former occupiers Taylor Made – which also dealt in windows, doors and conservatories – went into administration in 2005.
The showroom was officially opened as Easy Fit Conservatories shortly after, with TV gardner Charlie Dimmock doing the honours.
But hundreds of customers who were left high and dry by Taylor Made going into administration did not see work they had already paid for completed.
Bosses of Easy Fit said at the time they had taken on a handful of staff who were employed by Taylor Made.
