Thorley relived after late equaliser

Monday 14th December 2009, 8:30AM GMT.

tom thorleyStafford Rangers midfielder Tom Thorley was happy to hand over his penalty duties to Fabrice Kasiama with a point on the line against Droylsden at Marston Road.

The designated spot kick taker was left ruing his luck on Saturday with the game goalless, after his penalty was saved by goalkeeper Paul Phillips in the first-half.

Levi Reid put Rangers ahead a minute later, only for Droyslden to turn the tables on their hosts with an own goal from Jermaine Johnson and a strike from sub Paul Brown.

But the home side were handed the chance of a share of the spoils when Thorley was felled by visiting skipper Steve Halford, a penalty again the result.

Teenager Thorley stood aside and let Kasiama take it, with the winger burying the spot kick for a point.

The 19-year-old said: “I didn’t fancy it the second time, I don’t think any of the lads did! Luckily Fabrice took the ball and had the confidence to put it away. It was certainly an interesting Saturday!”

Thorley, after his penalty miss, cannot help thinking about what might have been in reflection.

He said: “It was a good point, but at the end of the game we felt aggrieved not to have taken the win. We would have taken a draw though before the game. It’s a good result, looking back on it, but with the position we are in we should have looked towards three points.

“We have got a tough run coming up, but we did well on Saturday. Hopefully we can take confidence from this and into our next game at Fleetwood.”
