A 75-year-old grandmother from Stourbridge who moved to Spain for a quiet life has achieved celebrity status after her salsa rhythms helped her win the Spanish version of Britain’s Got Talent.

Sarah Jones, who ran Paddy’s Fabrics, in Victoria Passage, won the hearts of judges with a dance routine which netted her and partner Nicko Espinosa the 10,000 euros top prize. The grandmother, better known as Paddy, has taken part in a series of competitions across the globe with her dance partner, who is 40 years her junior.

Speaking from her home in Gandia, near Valencia today, Paddy said the attention she had received following her win on Tu Si Que Vales, which translates to You Are Worth It, had been “extraordinary”. She said: “It goes to show age is no barrier. The attention I have received since has been absolutely overwhelming.”

Paddy first moved to Spain with her husband David in 2001 planning a quiet retirement. Her dream life was shattered when David died of leukaemia.

But the pensioner decided not to return home to Britain and renewed her lifelong passion for dancing.

Paddy will be dancing in the final of finals on December 30 when the prize will be 100,000 euros.
