A young street dancer from the Black Country has come top in a street dancing competition.

Connor Millichip from Park Road in Lower Gornal was named the West Yorkshire Street Dance Champion at the competition in Bradford last month.

The award is even more of an achievement as the eight-year-old who trains at Rhythmics Dance Studio in Cradley Heath, has only been dancing for six months.

Mother Emily Millichip said: “He has only been dancing six months. Besides street dance he does disco as well and is just as good at that.

“He got involved with the dance club as his nine-year-old sister Ellie-Mae is already a member there. She just asked him to go and they go together.”

The youngsters put in hours of work, training three times during the week and all day on a Saturday.

Mrs Millichip added: “The competition was at the end of November and was open to anybody up and down the country. It was split into different age groups and Connor is in the under 10s.

“In January we will be going to Blackpool for the All England championships.”

Mrs Millichip added the pupil at Red Hall Primary School in Zoar Street, wowed the judges with his impressive moves which included lifting his body on his hands and head spins.
