Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Dressing room behind McCarthy
Tuesday 8th December 2009, 11:58AM GMT.
Wolves defender Jody Craddock has revealed the whole dressing room is fully behind manager Mick McCarthy.
The boss has came under fire from some fans following the 1-0 defeat to Birmingham that made Saturday’s 2-1 win over Bolton all the more welcome, as the team moved to within a point of safety.
But McCarthy enjoys the full support of the board and the club hasn’t received a single email or letter criticising him.
The club’s most experienced player insists McCarthy, who has signed 25 of the current 31-strong squad, also enjoys the full backing of the players.
Craddock said: “The gaffer has been fantastic and every single one of the lads will go out there and give 110 per cent for him every single game, as they do in training as well.”
The 34-year-old revealed how McCarthy’s desire to return to the high tempo starts to a game paid off.
He said: “It was a case of us doing the jobs we’re there to do. If we keep doing that, we can get results. We were saying all last week how we needed to keep the tempo high from the first whistle because that’s how we need to play if we want to do well – that’s what gets the best out of us.
“Credit to the lads because we managed to do it for 75 minutes on Saturday.”
Craddock believes if Wolves can maintain their tempo at Tottenham on Saturday, they could shock Spurs, who conceded two late goals to draw 2-2 at Everton on Sunday.
He said: “We have to play like we did against Bolton. I know it’s slightly different when you go away, but the principles are the same – we need to shut players down and win tackles all over the pitch. If we can do that, we’ll give ourselves a good chance.”
Craddock believes Wolves’ third win of the season has boosted spirits.
He said: “The win has really lifted the whole place.”

good article, but we need to clatter defoe and crouch early doors and swamp thier midfield to have any chance, utw
Report abuse
This really is a Non-Story !
What else would you expect a player currently in the first XI to say ??
As for the high tempo stuff. We have no choice. If we don’t play like that we are dead and buried in this league.
I see cletic of after Robbie Keane on loan, bring the boy back home!!!
second from botton . who wants to be half way up the prem .What are these players on . Remove mm now morgan before its to late

We need some spirit lifting in the Jan transfer window. The chaps are playing well, but we need to shore up the back and get Joe Ledley in from Cardiff. He would give us more options on the wing and from midfield and he scores goals.
As for playing Spurs this week, if we come away without losing by three we will be extremely fortunate.. The players are trying hard, but are not used to playing at this level. We lack experience with the youngsters..
Against the pace of Defoe and Lennon, we need to drop Berra for Zubar (who should be fit). I think Mancienne would be a good player to protect the back four in a sweeper role.
4-1-4-1
Hahnemann
Stearman
Craddock
Zubar
Ward
Mancienne
Edwards
Henry
Milijas
Jarvis (Although Surman must desreve a chance?)
Hoff (To mark Crouch)
I think we could frustrate Spurs and nick a draw.

According to the national papers Robbie Keane is being snapped up by Mowbray at Celtic on loan! why would he want to waste his time playing in the Mickey Mouse Scottish league? He still loves the Wolves. McCarthy managed him for Ireland so knows him well. So what are you waiting for Mick/Jez? Do you want experience & quality? Do you want Premier league football next season? Or are we to be let down again & give the baggies what they want? If the likes of Stoke, Wigan, Blues,Bolton, Hull & heaven forbid Burnley can survive why cant we? If we go down again you lot running the club will have no excuses. Let’s see action in next months window while we still have a chance.

Well lets keep it simple round pegs in round holes and plenty of effort and i suppose you never know.Still think it should be SEB or Doyle with one of the others up front. And on saturday 1 up front with castillo coming in 4-5-1.
I fear for Craddock and Berra against Defoe and company to be honest. On the deck they are a bit slow. I reckon we need to bring Mancienne or Zubar (if fit) to cope with the extra pace at the back.
Will Foley be fit? If so get him in there too. Maybe even an arguement for a back four of:
Foley Zubar/Mancienne Stearman Ward
Drop SEB for Castillo in a 5 man midfield with Milijas supporting Doyle?
Would love us to get something but can’t see it myself. Desperately need to repair the damage (not) done in the summer come the transfer window.
great, now lets stay behind him!
It is hard enough surviving in this league without us always being the prophets of our own doom.

I TRIED TO POST A COMMENT ON LINE YESTERDAY BUT IT DID NOT REGISTER SAYING THAT WE OUGHT TO GO FOR KEANE BRING HIM HOME MOXY DON’T FAFF ABOUT HE WOULD JUMP AT THE CHANCE
Report abuse
While you are down at Spurs sound them out about signing Robbie Keen a proven goal scoring midfielder which is exactly what we are missing at the moment. If we can survive, then maybe it can become permanant come on Wolves you can do it!!!!
8, I agree Keano on loan would be a great signing, I am sure that Spurs will cover the majority of his wages too as they are to O’Hara at Spurs. Michael Ball on a free is a great bit of business and Dorrans from the tescos as he is looking for a January move and Blues are going to offer 2mil according to the press.
My team for Sat:
Hahnemann
Stears
Zubar
Craddock
Wardy
Jarvis
Milijas
Castillo
Henry
Edwards
Doyle or Hoff

13. Second htoughts maybe Mancienne would be a better bet than Ward for Lennons pace?
I think Mr. Keane’s £100k per week might be a sticking point???
i dont understand the comments that say drop berra for zubar because of pace, berra is quick, if you’re that bothered about pace drop craddock.
I think the defence should be kept the same for tottenham unless zubar is fit, in that case i would have him in for stearman, as lennon often plays on the left.
Bring robbie back home in jan! that would be amazing, i have no idea why he would go to celtic excpet money, although they’re in huge debt, so no reason at all really.

Craddock said: “The gaffer has been fantastic and every single one of the lads will go out there and give 110 per cent for him every single game, as they do in training as well.”
Sorry Jody but that clearly wasn’t the case against the Blues. More like 25-26% at best….
I would love to see Robbie Keane back here but dont think the board have that level of ambition and wont pay his wages anyway.
Even if it was only half his salary we had to stomp up its liable to be 30 or 40k a week and we dont pay anywhere near that. (Hence we are stuck with the quality of players we attract at the moment)

Like Brutus and the senate behind Ceasar?

Im sure you are all behind him, that way you are all safe. Hopefully when he goes the majoratory of you will follow!! 2nd from bottom and preaching, what a joke!!

no16 JEZ If we get Robbie on loan for half the season and he is on £100k per week, that will cost £2.5 M plus say another £2.5 M loan fee and that will be £5M well spent because Robbie will score the goals that will keep us in the Prem whiich is worth £30 m min year on year.If we signed Robbie on loan and we still get relegated,no one will be able to say we didn’t give it a real go.If we fail to sign him that will be another one on the list of let downs.
22. Spot on kidda, can’t argue with good common sense, however I’m sure some moron/s will try. PS Keano ain’t on 100k more like 60k and if it was a loan deal we might not even have to pay all the wages, Celtic couldn’t afford that anyway. As I’ve said before if he is available I’m sure we will inquire but a lot of it will be down to the man himself in the end. Leading his club to solid Prem existence would be worth a trophy in the cabinet at home surely!!! (especially a Jock league title.
IF Robbie is available on loan and i mean if…MM would love to have him im sure so its up to Moxey and Morgan to make it happen and show some real ambition…Robbie will score goals he allways has might be the key to survival…Keane and Doyle up front yes please good enough to play against cheating French make it happen Jez dont be shy on saturday by there chairman a nice bottle of red
Report abuse
Think we would all love to see Robbie Keane come back to Wolves!! But come on wake up and smell the coffee people we are not at the level to sign a player like Robbie Keane, no matter what he may think of the club.
He will not sign for a team who cant at least offer Euro football – Dream on everyone!!
Definately go for just Doyle up front Saturday, drop Big Ass to the Bench, not good enough for this level and to lazy, cant live on yesterlastseason!!!
Come on you Golden Wanderers
Report abuse
Of course the players will back the boss, they won’t play if they don’t. Get real you pillocks!! I am sorry to say that my beloved Wolves are at the moment still a Championship team with a Championship manager foundering about in the Pemier. I doubt that Robbie Keane would come to us and I’m damn sure our glorious leaders would not pay his wages. We are unfortunately a minimum wage club. Lets be honest, it’s all about money, it’s a shame but there it is. Forget about Keane.
22 Chris Hoggard. Exactly.
It all makes sense…we chant his name even when he scores against us! So surely if he had to go anywhere he’d come to us, and now we have the money to pay him what he’s worth…and it will pay off handsomely.
He is absolutely the player we need and would surely keep us up. He already plays up front with Doyle for Ireland so there’s no doubt he’d fit in.
Moxey, take your cheque book with you Saturday.
Celtic or wolves hmmm i wonder
Report abuse
22 – Is it really that simple ??
Do you not think that having Defoe, Lennon, Huddlestone, Krancar, Crouch etc around him makes it a tad easier to score than when the service is from Henry, Milijas, Edwards and Jarvis ? Regardless, a move to Celtic might be his last contract and he’d take the cash – just like most players of today would. If signing these players was so easy, do you not think we would have done it ?!

5. gold and black

LOL ,im sure i read last week that you was trying to bring in “rob hulse”. what planet are some of you on?
Robbie Keane come to Wolves ,you are having a laugh. While Moxey is running the show we will never get players of his quality at Wolves ,even on loan.Rob Hulse is far more likely methinks
Report abuse
Mick, Robbie Keane is IRISH too!!!!! Try another tactic lol
Report abuse
We have nothing to fear on saturday with super Jody in the team.He has scored more goals than Lennon and Crouch, and has scored the same amount as Gerrard,Berbatov and Lampard and is only 1 behind Arshavin. So lets give them a pasting and let Robbie see what he,s missing.
Only problem with Robbie Keane is we still have a wages ceiling of 20-25k. This is why we have mediocre players admittedly they may be more interested in Prem Footie than money but for how long ???
Would you take a HUGE pay cut to return to your old job ??
6. Re Ledley – forget it. He has been playing on through a serious hip injury that needs an operation and he will be out about 8-10 weeks when he has it. Cardiff Chairman Ridsdale has also criticised him recently that he is not playing well as if his mind is elsewhere, and the ‘mood’ of Cardiff fans is that he is nowhere near the player he was 12-18 months ago and they want rid.
Hang on though – injury record, loss of form, fans don’t like him – sounds like he could fit in at the Mol after all…

PAUL MULLERY- since when have games been 100 mins long ay?
44 – I thought they gave their all for 100 mins! Perhaps you should learn to add up before you criticise the players.I would love to see Keano back at Wolves, but I don’t think he’ll leave Spurs. I heard Harry on the radio saying how hard it was to leave him out but when Defoe scores every game you have to. If he was available I am pretty sure he is out of our bracket sadly. Perhaps people who desribe him as a ‘goal scoring midfielder’ may not be the safest judges of a player!
Im backing mick, Mr Moxey and the owner should do the same.

44. 90 minus 75, thats 15 not 25 minutes. Or are you “Tired? Run out of ideas? Unfit or couldn’t be bothered?” Answers on a postage stamp..

ROBBIE we need, what a catch we would stay up everyone associated with WOLVES would benefit greatly it would hive the club a massive boost.
Micko as to go as its thanks and goodbye he will never be a successful prem boss with wolves end of story.
Has for CRADDOCK :Lad stop talking b……t and get on with your job when we are a few points ahead of the relegation crew then you can talk no go and get training as the defence as constantly looked in dissaray so CRADDOCK you are not kidding me.

42 & 43 kiddy wolf
repeating yourself means a second childhood, not a kiddy!
Nothing has changed, McCarthy still has only won 5 games out of 54 as a Premiership manager, how did one win suddenly make him a winner?
My concern is that Mr Morgan leaves it too late in bringing in a replacement, so that we miss the transfer window.
Besides that, let Mick struggle along for a few more unwinnable games and reduce his success percentage even more!
It’s not the players, it’s the manager!
Keane might be a bit beyind us but players like Beattie and Darren Ambrose are within reach. Ambrose has played at this level as is in double figures from midfield already this season – Palace are a selling club, he could be a decent signing.
WE ARE PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL, WE NEED TWO EXPERIENCED DEFENDERS & ROBBIE KEAN, THEN WE WILL STAY UP, TO EARLY TO PANIC YET.

Some fans keep on banging on about there favourites. What is it with dropping Berra for Zubar.
Our team will be the one Mick picks. And I will support it because that is my role. You are the fan, Mick is the manager. The sooner some of you lot face that the sooner we can get on with staying up.

It would be interesting to see what MM wish list id for Jan and even more interesting to see if Mox will back him in that area. Only time will tell!!!
Signing Rob Hulse really is preperation for the Championship, MICK OUT!
Rob Hulse is not the answer – not for this league. As for Robbie, it would be great to have him back but apart from the economics of such a loan deal, I think the lure, for an Irishman, of playing for Celtic would prove too great. It was probably the only other club that the “other Keano” would have joined and for a loan deal, I reckon Robbie would choose it over us despite his happy memories. Don’t they say never go back?
I’d like to see Moses come in from Palace.

Quote:- ‘ The lads give 110%…..’is he having a laugh !!!’
The Club has not received a letter or Email critising MM…..total lie, I for one have emailed the Club asking what is going on…
and MM receives the full backing of the players and board……Sam Volkes is a mate of mine, and he could tell a very different story about the lack of respect the players have for McCarthy.
If you believe any of this newspaper report, then you believe in Father Christmas and fairies at the bottom of the garden.
The truth is that the board are very concerned at the pathetic performance some of the players are giving, the leadership and direction that MM is taking the Club, and without a shadow of doubt, there will be several changes to the Club after Christmas…don’t believe me…watch this space

This is a team learning to play in a totally different league and probably better than Pompey, Bolton and Hull – that’s all we need!
Robbie would be great for morale if we could afford him.
If fit, James Beattie would be handy, but almost too old.
Get real folks. Just surviving would be a triumph. Changing managers (Ferguson? You must be joking!) unlikely to help and certain to cost us a fortune. The reason Steve Morgan is so successful is because he understands both economics and the importance of having achievable, sensible goals.
Most of the contributors need to live in today’s world.
Robbie Keane would be a fantastic boost for club and fans but will jez stretch the wage or could we do a deal with spurs i would love to see robbie come home but its just a xmas wish think james beatie may be the other option more realistically.Mr Morgan tell jez to pull out all the stops and get some prem class in no matter WHAT IT COSTS.
Why are we continually harping on about the defence? The reason our defence is constantly in trouble is due to the Midfield – Henry is a liability and Jarvis doesn’t (and cannot) defend when he needs to. Berra and Craddock have done well this season so far for a central pairing that have been constantly under pressure. Where’s Foley? Another victim of telling MM what he thinks. He is fit, so why isn’t our player of the season from last year playing? Ward is no sensation but he is committed to the cause and capable of doing a solid job a left back if he can stay fit. Keane won’t join us on loan becasue Moxley won’t pay his wages – he would love to come back here. Keane and Doyle up front – that sounds good to me. MM keeps harping on about a lack of Premiership experience yet is looking at Hulse, Beckford etc. It was a better performance against Bolton, but we’re simply papering over the cracks again.
We must go for Keane. Its perfect for Wolves and Ireland.
Why not shell out £1million to Spurs for the rest of the season? Thats £50K a week from now until end of May.
Or….throw the unexpected extra income generated by the Man City Lescott deal (£2.5million approx)at him! That ourght to tempt Tottenham to loan him and Wolves have lost nothing if it doesnt work!
They win another £50-60million if it does work.
Do the maths Moxey/Morgan you corporate scrooges. We doh wanna be a yo-yo club like them Boggies, we are Wolves, pioneers of European football!!

Mick is the manager and he is doing a damn site better than you would. Add to that he is doing a damn site better than any manager in the last 30 years. Add to that he is acheiving more than any manager sinse Barnwell.
Un yet you say he is rubbish so I am supposed to bow down to your opinion. If not I am a happy clapper or some kind of deranged lunatic.
The only thing that is making me doubt Mick currently is his Prem record. And 80% of that record is accumulated at Sunderland where he had a transfer budjet of £5Million. He is acheiving more already with Wolves.
