Wolves 2 Bolton 1
Saturday 5th December 2009, 6:10PM GMT.
Battling Wolves clung on for a crucial three points against Bolton at Molineux today, writes Tim Nash.
A first victory in nine games lifted Mick McCarthy’s side to within a point of safety after the recalled Nenad Milijas made one and scored a beauty for their first win since September 20.
Wolves needed an early goal to settle their nerves and got it after 122 seconds from their first attack through Craddock.
The veteran centre-back rifled home from six yards out after Christophe Berra flicked on one of several superb free kicks from Nenad Milijas to become Wolves outright top scorer with four goals.
Just as he did for his first goal at Stoke, Craddock – whose goal meant he had scored Wolves last four – looked suspiciously offside following the flick on.
But McCarthy’s side weren’t about to knock a gift horse in the mouth after starting the match bottom of the Premier League following Portsmouth’s 2-0 win over Burnley.
The goal gave Wolves the perfect platform to push on and, roared by a noisy and enthusiastic Molineux, McCarthy’s side were the more dominant side.
Milijas curled another free kick inches wide soon after and Berra’s header was booted off the line by Ricardo Gardner, although the flag had gone up for a foul.
Bolton’s threats were rare but Ivan Klasnic forced Marcus Hahnemann into a falling save on 26 when the American sprung to his left to smother an angled effort.
The Croatian striker fired inches over the angle just before the break from a pull-back from Chung Yong Lee.
Bolton started the slightly stronger side after the interval and Matt Taylor prompted Hahnemann into a smart diving stop from one of four corners the visitors forced in the first 12 minutes of the half.
But their revival was checked in the 63rd minute by a superb goal from Milijas, who unleashed a terrific shot into the far corner of the net from 30 yards for a memorable first strike in English football.
Wolves still had to be on their toes and the recalled Stephen Ward made a brilliant last ditch tackle to deny the clean-through Lee after the Irishman was left two on one.
In late drama, Hahnemann then produced a fantastic save low down to deny Matt Taylor before Jussi Jaaskelainen tipped over a header by Gretar Steinsson at the other end.
But Wolves couldn’t hold on for what would have been only their first clean sheet since the second game of the season as substitute Johan Elmander stabbed home on 79.
Two minutes later, Wolves wasted a chance to have made life easier when substitute Stefan Maierhofer missed the ball when a Milijas pass split the defence.
Bolton’s Gavin McCann had the ball in the net in time added on, but he was offside and Wolves hung on.

This match proved what everyone has been thinking for some time. We have the ability to stay in this league, we just need to do two things. One – tackle hard and maintain energy and two – pick our most creative and technically gifted player. Yes he fouls people, yes he sometimes looks lazy – but Milijas was just class today.
Lets push on now and Mick – please pick this team for more than one game on the trot

Could of and should of dropped 2 points.
Defence and Goalkeeper all over the place.
Mick out.

A little better today,… hard to think we could have been any worse!,..but gave away a silly goal, went to pieces and strange subs and moving players around in last 10 for no reason nearly cost us 3 points,..but we got them so on to the next one,…only a small reprieve I think for MM though, sorry.

Jody Craddock must be worth around £10 million at the moment. What a striker. What a great player. What a great bloke too.

I know it was only Bolton and a team that only started playing in the second half, but what a fantastic effort!
At last we have Milijas filling in and playing off Henry’s good work, to provide the service to the forwards, so after an absolutely frenetic first 45 mins, I hope Merlin is absolutely raging that we weren’t 8 goals up!
This possessive advantage and territorial advantage should have seen us out of sight! As it was, we were hanging on at the end. What’s up with SEB?
Gotta sort this out guys! However a great performance, and a brilliant morale booster!
Roll on Burnley…..

Stephen Ward was outstanding today Well done Stephen and welcome back
There were many other good points too.
This season was always going to be about keeping our heads and having steady nerves.
The team spirit we didn’t have last time will be one of our strongest assets this time.
I just wish everybody who is so ready to criticise would just fully get behind the club ALL THE TIME!

Been saying for weeks that Milijas is the best player wolves have by a long mile. I’m not bothered that Swain, Nash and a lot of Wolves fans can’t see it.. but it bothers me when the Manager can’t!!
Edwards is all effort and no substance, and Henry was invisible in the 2nd half…
Defence, well, chaos as usual apart from Wardy who I have to say I’ve never been a fan, but I tell you what, with a battling performance like that, I salute you! well done Wardy!
Milijas man of the match, pure class.

SO MUCH BETTER THIS WEEK
Milias and Ward made a big difference, leave MM alone !
In MIck we should trust, this team is ood enough to stay up, they need to work hard, harder and even harder !

well donr today lads much better than last week
hanny in goal looked great ,no nerves about crosses.miljas ,what can i say but goal of the month !! and craddock ,a big ty today you and the team won me £106 with a 2-1 win crad 1st goal at 105/1 !!!!!

Get lost wolvesmod, noone needs your pointless negativity, we’ll criticise and rightfully so when they play bad like they did against brum but we’ll praise and rightfully so when they perform like they have today!
Well done lads, you’ve done us proud today! We are Wolves!
I’m happy and I’m clapping. OK we were worried at the end but we deserved to win. Milijas looked a yard quicker than earlier in the season and credit Mick for playing him rather than Castillo for a game we had to win. Wolvesmod smakes some stupd and illiterate comments but today’s takes the biscuit – getting those 3 points must have really hurt you, Bob and your mates. ‘Thick Mick’ is still there – and long may it continue.
Mote guts shown than in the last few weeks put together. Impressive first half but poor 2nd law of averages says we had to win one at some point, this is meaningless unless we follow it up. Still finding myself far from convinced MM is the man to keep us up. Morgan must open cheque book to bring in a centre half a class wide player and in my opinion a proven midfielder at least. 3 points desperately needed and Burnley were very poor today by all accounts but different proposition at Turf Moor. Let’s not forget target for these three games was 9 points 7 minimum!!!! Milijas is a must from now on and Castillo should be two they had a great partnership and understanding at Red Star. Wolves forever and always
Report abuse
Wolvesmod there have been at least two games where we could and should have taken max points! Most ridiculous comment for at least a month that I have seen.
Amazing that putting players in positions which relate to their true roles can actually bring rewards.Unfortunately it takes hundreds of postings in the aftermath of the Blues game for MM to realise this.
Still need a new man at the helm if we are to have hope of survival.
Just how many more hapless performances from SEB must we take before someone else starts?
i said after the birmingham match give mccarthy this game 2 save his job, and hes done it. Hes proved that we are capable and we can get the results. however im not going to get carried away. we have 2 matches now away to tottenham and man u which we r unlikely 2 get anything out of. however the burnley match is next up after that and that 1 is another must win to keep us in touching distance of everyone else. if we can climb out before january then players like anton ferdinand, reo coker, nolan, butt, heskey and ledley might then consider us. these sorts of players would keep us up. But well done the lads today
Report abuse
Tried to post a comment earlier, don’t know if it was accepted.
Billy the Swing needs to go Swinging and get some positives put into him.
The players did what was asked of them today and full credit to all to come away with 3 points from a must win match, now thats pressure and from what I read on the live yahoo commentary a few players gave their all and stepped up to the plate, ie Milijas Craddock, Ward, etc. Here in Brazil couldn’t get the game so had a tense time imagining how it all played out. As I said on the other comment the players need to believe in themselves and not shy away or be in awe of the competion, they may be streets ahead in quality but if Wolves players have the heart and want to play in the shirt, their passion and courage will see them through, don’t give the opposition time on the ball, close them down asap and have the courage to shoot from outside the box, the balls these days are very unpredictable and light and goalies cannot control them especially when its wet.
Onward and upward lads.

Things seem so much better after a win.And what a cracker,Brummie Rob and some other posts, from your man from Serbia.Kenny Hibbitt would have been proud of that one.Let us hope we can keep in contention by Jan and then sign a couple of quality players.Sadly SEB is not cutting it in the Prem and we need a top striker to partner Doyle.

thank god we gave craddock a new contract at the end of last season !
fully deserves his place in the side!

just relieved to get the win. but just like Fulham we invited them to attack late on instead of keeping the ball. a better team than bolton would have got a draw. we need more experience to see out a game or all our hard work will come to nothing. this is why blues have settled better than us when they were awful last season. also lets give credit to the Bolton players for signing autographs outside after the game despite looking gutted. kevin davies & sam ricketts both signed their photo’s in my sons programme and when called back as he climbed on the team coach goalscorer Elmander also came over & signed. top blokes all. (unlike the arsenal team who acted like film stars & didnt want to know)

Even when we win people still moan. Why cant you just give them a break. There is no pleasing some people. One of the reasons i dont go as much as i used to is because of people like you constantly moaning, like a broken record. Winge Winge Winge.
If you cant give the team a bit of credit when they win (against an established premiership team, although they may be struggling) then just keep you thoughts to your self and stick to football manager.
We were rubbish against Blues and today must have taken a lot of character to win the game as the pressure was well and truly on as even ill admit if wed have lost today them we would have been stuffed but we didnt.
Well done lads a good win. We need to same against Burnley.

Hey hang on did we score a goal from open play ffs. Jeez it’s been a long time coming. It’s amazing what can happen if you are prepared to give it a go. Well done Nenad, we knew you had it in you. Now you have set the benchmark we would like more of those spectacular goal. Can we raise the bar against Spurs & Man Utd, well Mick the jury is still out on your stay of execution. Get something from those to games (6 points) & a further 3 from Burnley & you might get a reprieve from the Molineux Masses. A word of advice to the Wolves team, believe you can win every game no matter who you are playing. Good luck to all of you for the next month & beyond.

A crucial 3 points gained .. well done MM and the boys.
Welcome back Wardy !!!!
despite what all the idiots will no doubt say.
We needed a touch of class and Milijas provided. On top of that superhero ‘Capt Craddock’ does it again.
From the blouses, and bolton 3 points had to be the minimum target – and i personally prefer a win and a loss, to 2 draws.
And to be realistic by new years day we should target another 4/5 points, so we will probably remain in the bottom three.
We all knew it would be a long hard season.
Lets stick together and we will stay in the prem.

listening to the radio before the game started and Moxey was on…he couldn’t provide a lot of answers and was struggling to find his words.
He made a point that the league has changed since we were there last time and things have got harder…so why hasn’t the money been spent to compete?…the board needs to clean up its act and be consistant with it’s answers.
The ambition of this club is that of a turd waiting to be flushed…and that is no exageration.
onto the game…2 poor teams I’m afraid…we looked good but I would be quite worried if we didnt against a poor Bolton team.
SEB, unfit and lazy, doesn’t make the effort and he is a frustrating player to watch.
our first goal was offside and therefore it could have very nearly been a draw..but hey we got it and I am happy that we won.
Although it seemed at the end that we were trying our best to turn the results on their head, not a good way to finish a game I’m afraid.
but with 3 points handed our way, all in all i am quite happy.
With the coming fixtures however, the only game we have to hold out hope for is Burnley through December, so it will make the Jan window all the more harder to attract quality players.

Wolves had some tough games previously. Like i said last week, Birmingham had the third least goals allowed. Wolves can score, and win against lesser teams (second half of table).
Good show, and best of luck to Mick and the boys.

Reallity check needed here,Yes we got the much needed 3 points and played some glorious football at times,But the defence is still looking very shaky with too much backing off and a marked innability to defend set pieces.A game that should have been comfortable at 2-0 became a nervewracking finale and had we been facing half decent forwards may well have succumebed again.Still lets saviour the 3 points and look forward to the same against Burnley.

play to get up to speed. sorry but he is a bad joke.

Well a much needed win. Think you are all being a bit hard on wolvesmod- he is entitled to his opinion.
Think it is time to rest ebanks blake or let him go out on loan. His confidence is shot. I personally don’t think he is up to the job and would like to see Voakes recalled for a run. But I feel sorry for him and sense that the longer this goes on the worse it looks and the fans who are currently not making too many noises about him will turn viciously.
Still think that this is a temporary reprieve for McCarthy. He is not a premiership manager and when interviewed on sky last night seemed to have forgotten we had scored a goal against arsenal, referring to our two four nil drubbings!
I think most of the moaners just want to see a settled side- to see more of the players he has spent millions on.
We all think we could manage the team better than the manager, all can opine about players we would like to bring in, players we would drop, but we are not party to decisions in the boardroom, treatment room and dressing room. Mick is.
Whilst I wanted him thanked and paid off in April and a new manager appointed, MM does appear to have the support of the board for now.
A fantastic 3 points which at least gives us a shot at survival. Again Burnley is a must win game and MM must play Milijas even if he is not on top form. Many of our goals come from set pieces and he is our only player who can deliver a quality ball. Still worry about our defence marking still suspect at times. Agree with comments about SEB has to make way against Man. U. and Spurs probably for Keogh whose work rate is excellent.

Gornal wolf is from another planet!
Mick is out of his depth and will get us relagated before your brain kicks in. I imagine you are a true happy clapper without any common sense :)
Good result but poor display, Edwards, Blake, Berra and Jarvis must be dropped for a start.
Bolster the midfield with Castilo and give Surman the left flank.
The Hoff needs the kind of run that has been given to Blake.
Play Zubar instead of Berra who unlike his name gets worse, all he does is grab / pull.
Happy clappers do one :)clueless fans not required!!!!!!!!

You are an imposter. I have been posting here for years. Make up your own name and get yourself a mind! Creep!
We haven’t had our dreams restored, it is just another step in the McCarthy nightmare. Next week he’ll start playing people out of position again and inventing new playing formations, he just can’t stop himself.
Well done the team, the problem is not the players, just the manager.
ONE DAY, OUT OF DARKNESS WILL COME LIGHT!

Well done the team today. I admit that I am selfish, it would be kind to give McCarthy another season, but I **DON’T** want to get relegated!
5 wins in 50+ managing Premiership games is not an impressive record. We have witnessed too often a naivety in selection and tactics that tells anyone with intelligence that McCarthy is out of his league.
I expect that Mr Morgan will also realise that to protect his investment he needs to get his own man in before the January window, so get ready for the announcement!

Great result, but there were some lessons to be learned from the game. Most goals scored in the prem seem to come from shots from long range usually taking a deflection on the way.So lets see more of that for the rest of the season.SEB is not cutting it in the prem and should now be left out.He is so out of confidence AND sharpness. The Hoff should be given a chance now ,he is an international and must have something to offer. We also need some pace in the centre of defence,Zubar in for Berra.Anyway a great result now lets push on with McCarthy making the correct team selections from now on.
A bit of creativity in midfield made all the difference. It meant we spent far more time in the opponents half of the field which took the pressure off our defence. And we had a goal threat for the first time in weeks. I thought Milijas, Doyle and Ward were all outstanding. Now lets just keep picking our best available team and stop worrying about the opposition.

Well done the lads.Wolvesmod,go back to the boing boings where you belong you moron.Abetter team selection Mick butwhy do you still pay Ebanks-Blake when he is obviously not a premiereship player?Doyle needs a partner to help him start scoring so why not give the Hoff a run?2.5m. and you won`t play him. Finally Mick if you speak to the players in the same tone as your TV interview no wonder they want livening up,no passion in your words,no excitement, nothing,, Wake up Mickyou are now on your 5th win in 52 games in the top flight,WOW,what a awonderful record. Please GO.

All the papers seem concerned about today is Craddock being offside. Well, two things: one, he was, but we needed some luck back and two, not one Bolton player complained.
Milias has done exactly what I expected. He HAS to start, so does Zubar as these are quality players. They will have off days, but a performance like Milias’s today surely if proof we have World Class.
Now someone has to convince Mick to dump some of the others that cannot cut the mustard. Hahnemann proves what a good goalie is like – although he was at fault as much as the defence for the goal.
Now drop SEB to sharpen him up and try Maierhofer from the start for a few weeks.
I hate to raise Eastwood – he has never come to anything since and I never rated him – but as a classic ‘Mick Managed’ example he had his confidence shattered when he was given a run, then dropped and never let back in whilst we suffered poorer quality in his place.
How much longer are we going to buy players then leave them out?

I like MM’s honesty, to be frank. There’s precious little of it around. So I for one, despite some reservations about his selections before yesterday, will stay behind him.
As for the Hoff – are we sure this geezer is a professional footballer. He must be the biggest donkey in the prem. Send him out on loan instead – to the council!

What a fantastic goal by Milijas!!! Has got to be in the top 10 goals for December on MOTD in my opinion.
Although we still have a hell of a lot of work to do to remain in this league that hopefully will be the stepping stone to doing so.
After the Blues match I along with many others was very annoyed. Today though I am munching on a small slice of humble pie. Whilst that was not our most convincing permformance it did result in the 3 points we desperately needed. More of that during the season and I will be happy to eat the whole pie!
One more point. We FINALLY scored a goal from open play from outside the box because someone had the courage(and space)to shoot!! More of that please from ALL the team. If you don’t shoot you won’t score, you don’t have to walk the ball into the net do you?
Barring any injuries or really bad performances we should play that team week in week out (possibly not SEB) but we will see.

Much better performance, Millijas, should have been playing for weeks, and we still need Castillo and a functioning strike force. That said Bolton were a poor team and if we are to stay up we need to step up another gear at least. Unfortunately I am still not convinced that MM is the man who can do it. We need to take points of some of the better teams now on a regular basis. Tottenham and Aarron Lennon will be a good test next week !
I did not see the game but it sounds like a solid three pointer which is much needed. Finally, Milijas gets his chance and scores a great goal. MM needs to say less to the press and build off this result. We must beat Burnley – I watched them yesterday and they were very poor. This is the time to take three points and then move on and secure away points form upcoming opposition.
The saying goes ” if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” Can we please have some consistency (a) from the Manager’s lineup and tactics and (b) from the players efforts on the field?

Bully fan. I agree with you I have been saying this for ages try from outside the box and that was a stormer. We have to keep Milijas in. He was the reason we took a draw at Stoke, and I am also sick of hearing ah well we have Tottenham and Manchester United next, we aint going to get anything out of them, why not! all teams are beatable. The lads need to know that when they go out on their pitches these teams can be beaten. Come on lads show some of the fans that you can beat these teams and give the moaners and doubters something to talk about. I thought you were all brilliant on Sat apart from trying to give me heart attack the last ten minutes, but the fight is back, Birmingham now gone, so come on fight fight wherever you may be.

What’s all this talk about Burnley ? I’m coming over (from the US ) for the Tottenham game and everyone seems to be conceding defeat on this one already. Glad to see Ward play so well. I was wrong about this lad for he is certainly getting better every game at full back. That last ditch tackle was amazing.
Re SEB I am afraid he canot hack it at this level but the fighting spirit was there for all to see.
We can hold ourown against the lower quality teams. Even Burnley are coming back within range.

I have to say one thing this proved that mm should be playing milijas all the time. However even though a good result we have to be realistic about this. Boltons away record is rubbish and we nearly drew the match. The game that will define if we can stay in the premier is Burnley. A side that have the worst away record in the prem so we should beat them so lets see what happens.

Clearly you don’t have a clue what your on about, true we conceded a sloppy goal and were hanging on at the end, but we produced the better performance on the day and should have had the game tied up second half.
We do have the tools to stay in this division, Milijas should be first name on the team sheet, along with Craddock, they are so influential to Wolves though we do need a striker to partner Doyle in January as well as a tall centre half who is good in the air, someone like Carlisle from Burnley I think with those areas covered and perhaps a winger on loan we will do fine.
Hopefully we can at least grab a point at Spurs next weekend and it’s true what Mick said, it’s about time we got some good luck because if it wasn’t bad luck, we’d have had none at all!
Stay on Mick’s side, true he isn’t the most charismatic of managers, but he always says it like it is, he knows whats expected and I truly believe he is the best man for the job at this moment in time.

Team for Spurs:
Keep the same squad, why change a winning formula? Even if SEB didn’t play that well.

Thank you Jody Craddock and the good linesman because Jody was off side but one massive thank you to Milijas more the same for the rest of the season. So I think its safe to say he is not a Silas, what goal, we haven’t had a midfielder who can do that for a few years, Mick keep him in the side please.
I’ve also got to say Ward played brilliantly and I am not huge fan of his, super tackle in the second half and Hahneman made some important saves late on. I hate to say if Bolton had a goal-scoring striker they probably nicked a draw yesterday. They had some good chances towards the end.
The lads need to keep hold of ball better in future games especially when we are 2 – 1 up with 10 minutes to go. It became more like a cup game with us hanging on to a premier scalp result. This needs to be a launch pad for better home form in coming months, roll on Burnley because I can’t see us getting anything from White Hart Lane and old Trafford, but you never know.

A welcome 3 points, but scraping a win against a rubbish team is not good enough. It was nice to score a goal from open play for a change!.

It makes me laugh the way that the thick, fickle fans come out on this site showing an absolute lack of intelligence and moan about everything. Where are they today – still moaning but not on this site. They aren’t Wolves fans. They should go back to there ugly wives and ugly daughters and ugly sisters.
In terms of the match – a massive difference. Stephen Ward has given us stability and solidity at the back left where we have so often been exposed. His match saving tackle in the 2nd half could mean the difference at the end of the season because it certainly saved at least two points. Miljas was exceptional – he now needs to stay in. Henry as always ran his socks off, covering acres and running back to defend whenever he was needed. The only weak links yesterday were SEB who looks fat and lazy, always a yard off the pace if he can be bothered to get that close and Jarvis who was just a bit anonymous.
If we can, somehow get 6 points from our next four games we will be back on 1 point per game that we need. It’s just a shame that 3 are away matches at top teams!!
But, back to my original point, will the moaners please get lost and do some overtime to save up for the wife’s much needed cosmetic surgery

Thank GOD we won..Just like a loss you need to assess the win.So for all the dreamers sorry but this was still a very disjointed performance. The defence continues to be a hugh problem area they have to tighten up and play in a controlled manner, have to otherwise we will sink without trace. We look very very poor at the back this as been the case all season!Which makes it crystal clear that something is not correct in the management area. Its not a question of us not having the personal its the lack of organisation at the back that is alarming.During the first half when BOLTON were poor they still managed to get shots in when wolves players could have cleared or tackled this is going to be our downfall and beleive me it can be prevented. They need to develope a never say die attitude and clearly improve on the old concentration levels and remain calm and strong. This is the one area we can improve a million times even with the current players.Because at the other end the front men do not look like scoring!! I constantly read how well DOYLE is doing Yet watching him play he is weak, shooting is non existent first touch can b very poor his running and threat levels towards the opposition are of a very low level. And statistics are showing this yet he is more of a threat then SEB!!!He as to be sub as he is showing nothing, nothing! We cannot afford to carry passengers this is a major concern that management are continuing with him.So stop concedeing silly goals or should i say giving away goals and hopefully CRADDOCK can score the odd one at the other end as DOYLE/SEB are not going to!!As how many shots did these two have yesterday against BOLTON!!!! ?We won but the performance is well below levels REQUIRED to stay up.This level of performance will get points against TEAMS that show even less then ours and unfortunately there are only 2/3 teams and BOLTON were one and BURNLEY are certainely not the other one!HULL/WEST HAM WOULD BE THE OTHER TWO AS THERE MANAGERS ARE ALSO GUTLESS AND CLUELESS.DONT COME BACK AND HAVE POPS AT ME AS JUST WATCH THE INTERVIEWS OF THESE MANAGERS,,,

For the Spurs game, I would be inclined to rest SEB and play Keogh instead. Whilst Keogh scores but rarely, at least any defence he plays against will have more to take account of than is currently the case with SEB. I am not yet convinced by “The Hoff” and still see him as someone to throw on late in the game if things need changing.

I only watched the highlights on MOTD but we did look good except for 1 of our central defenders but I couldnt work out which one it was. Everytime their striker came short for the ball this centre half went with him tight. This is fine but if he goes he has to win the ball because otherwise he gets turned which was what happened a couple of times or the ball just gets touched back and then a forward pass can be made into the massive hole left by our player. It was Berra aginst Arsenal for their 3rd goal and I think it is him again. He needs to sort it out or be droppped because it does not matter how many areial balls he cuts out if he keeps doing that aginst better opposition we will get punished.

70 !! Surman instead of Jarvis ?? Jarvis has been one of the plus points so far and his crossing has been excellent at times. I would like to see The Hoff start up front with Doyle and Keogh play on the right too. Melijas has to play now – not a big fan of Henry – but those in the know say he is doing well this season….so far be it from me to say different. If we can get Foley up and running gain and make a few decent signings in the window – we can still do well in this league. Look at Bham and Fulham – a few wins and they are near the top !! Come on Wolves

I’d drop Berra, Jarvis and Ebanks at spurs, got to be 4-5-1.
Hahnemann
Stearman
Zubar
Craddock
Ward
Edwards
Henry
Milijas
Mancienne (protect the back four)
Surman
Doyle/Hoff
Against the pace and movement of Defoe et al, we need pace to match at the back. Drop Berra for Zubar and play Mancienne in front of the back four. Jarvis isn’t doing it so Surman deserves a chance. I’d also drop Ebanks for an extra midfielder and play Milijas in the advanced role.

i just wished we had bought Steve Hunt at the same time of buying Doyle, again penny pinching by the 3M’s instead we bought an untried kid Surman for 1m.knowing full well our two-wingers,were accident prone, and untried in the Prem, yes i agree its time to rest SEB,and play Keogh as he and Doyle played well off each other. Has for Halford the less said the better ”Donkeys n Beach” spring to mind, and whats going on with ‘FOLEY’ if his injured why’s he on the bench?he played 90mins in the reserve match?, if he’s fit then play him,he could have given him 20mins v Chelsea, and yesterday to give him match fitness,i fear there is more to it than meets the eye.keep the faith all you Wolves fans

What a great game and what a great performance.
Milijas is a class act.
That was a superrr goal.
We still need to do some work, we need a robbie keane to play alongside Doyley
I think Mick will not be sacked now, but he has to play Milijas and keep the same team week in week out.
Where is Foley?
Finally, we need to play Andy Keogh or get Vokesy back to play alongside Doyle.

Well done lads,we out ‘Boltoned’ Bolton!!! But hold fire, one swallow dosent make a summer. If we dont beat Burnley in next home match then we’re back to where we were after B-ham match.Flood midfield and hope to get a moral boosting draw against either Spurs or Man U then all out attack v Burnley.Milias was class-how we’ve needed someone whos not scared to shoot!!! Doyle worked hard,Ward is a unsung hero and Hannaman comes for crosses and corners which Hennessey didnt thus giving defenders a bit more confidence,Jody our best player.A Reprive for McCarthy then-i think we’d all love him to come good and keep us up,but come the New Year if it looks hopeless the pressure will be back on.And bont bank on world class-premier league striker to come in the window,McCarthy keeps going to Gillingham to watch Simione Jackson…..no dought another ‘young and hungry’ bod for the Championship next season!!!

I am sorry but I have to disagree with the majority of posts on here.Bolton are a very poor side and yet they could easily have got an equaliser near the end.Our front two still dont look like scoring and we need goals to have any chance of staying up.We cant keep relying on Craddock.Great to see Milijas in midfield but I am nowhere near convinced we have the quality to stay up.

At last a win !!! and it had nothing to do with record signing ‘Kevin Doyle’
I have nothing against Doyle as a player, and in a better team than Wolves, would be better served.
I truely believe that Wolves biggest mistake at the beginning of the Season was to sign Kevin Doyle, a striker who ran hot and cold last Season with Reading, a player who for an effective striker is far too light in stature ( how many times was he on the turf throughout the game ?) consistantly falling over when tackles ( that’s the province of Sylvan ) and is only lightly to score goals by head or boot in goalmouth scurmishes.
Has anyone seen Doyle take a full blooded shot outside the box, say 25-30 yards since joining Wolves ?
There is only one Wolves player who understands Doyles style of play and that is Keogh, and Mick will not play him. The first couple of games of the Season saw Doyle and Keogh creating many chances together, he can’t do that with Sylvan, because one or both of them prefer to be on the turf after attempting half hearted chances.
We should sell Doyle before we decend into the Championship next season, likewise send Sylvan out on loan, as he is useless to Wolves this Season
We must attract some creative force in our forwardline, the experiment with Milijas was a success, lets try other radical moves…play the ‘Hoff’ he has not been given a chance this season, and give big Chris one more chance when he is fit, could be interesting.

It is obvious that Wolvesmod knows as little about the English language as he does about football. It should be “could have and should have” not “could of and should of”.

Nice to see a bit of scrap and fight return this week. What did we expect from Bolton, just to sit there after going 2-0 down? The Burnley game now is a must win of course. As for the away games, if we really perform we can get something out of the Liverpool and Spurs games but I think Man U.(full strength not like the League Cup) will turn us over. The forwards have got to up their ante, seeing a centre half as the leading scorer should be all the motivation they need to pull their socks up. Admittedly I was in favour of a change of manager if we failed to beat the Trotters but now I think we should reassess where we are in the Jan. window period. This means Moxey sanctioning the payment of decent wages to two quality, experienced campaigners who can get us up the league.
Fight, fight wherever you may be.

Great result – just what was needed and feeling a little better than last week, especially in relation to Nenad. Just need to try and pick up a bonus point or two from the four tough games this month and a win against Burnley now! That would at least give us a fighting chance in 2010 in our battle to finish 17th
I would like to be more optimistic but Bolton were very poor and we had a fair bit of luck (Kevin Davies suspended, Jody’s offside goal and poor finishing from Bolton which could easily have seen them grab a point).
Shame Spurs didn’t have Defoe, Dawson, Crouch and Palacios sent off this weekend!!

81 and 95. I am amazed by your Kevin Doyle comments. The guy’s first touch is incredible, he holds the ball up fantastically, never stops running, is as strong as an Ox and when he is finally put on the turf it is invariably for a foul. Who won the free kick for the first goal? Who did enough to get the ball to Milijas for the second? Doyle is a class signing. Great 3 points albeit it against a very poor Bolton side.

81 and 95 Kevin Doyle is our best player by a country mile, the problem is he needs a good strike partner and SEBS not doing it hes lazy out of shape and wins no headers.Doyle has no service he gets no knock ons from a strike partner in fact he has to track back to win the ball for himself.Watch the goals go in when he has a decent strike partner James Beattie might be a good bet now hes fallen out with Pullis

23) I totally agree. I have said all along that Milijas needs to be accomodated. Especially when we only have one winger playing. The Hoff or Keogh must play at the expense of Sylvan.

Oh dear, sell Doyle, loan out Seb, give MM a 5 year contract. This page is just mad! haha.
Great win the weekend, mad the flight home a much better experience for sure.
Beattie would be a good call, doubt too many bigger clubs will come sniffing so it will be the likes of us and Blues going for him. Problem is, is he too much like Doyle though??
Seb was awful again, think he needs pulling out of the side for his own sake to be honest. Give Keogh a game at Spurs (his running and tracking back will help on the defensive side atleast!)
Big well done to Milijas and Ward on Saturday, excellent performances from both players.

i disagree with dropping SEB he is the reason we are in the premiership and deserves a chance just because of what he’s done over the past 2 seasons!

Been to the game and thought it was a great performance despite hanging on at the end, milijas pure class we must build the midfield around him.
Just one point I would like to make you may or may not agree,to the people who advocate us spending millions on transfers and wages to scrape survival can I point you towards the Portsmouths and Hulls of this league.
Both of these clubs are facing financial meltdown (include West Ham and Bolton) because of an obsession with staying up.If any of these clubs were to be relegated they would probably dissapear for a very long time a la Charlton,Southhampton,Leeds etc (the list is long).Personally (and its just my opinion) I would prefer caution and if we go down we will be finacially sound and could bounce straight back (not gauranteed I know) with a team 2 years older and wiser. This is a strange view to some but imagine going the way of some previous Premier League teams Derby and Leeds say who have nearly gone out of business!! I am ready to be shot down but some will agree I am sure

We won. We got 3 points. I am pleased. First half display was decent, 2nd half when Bolton pulled one back we looked very nervous. Still we survied, thats the main thing. Good performances from Ward, Hanhemann, Milijas, Craddock, Doyle. All in I was pleased with the whole team. The only change I would have made was Keogh instead of SEB. Yes it was only Bolton but we took the points. Spurs away will be difficult, a point would be a good result.

Lloydy, don’t disagree, but you can also point to the likes of Blues, Stoke, Wigan, Sunderland etc who have spent money and are now looking to kick on. It’s not about just blowing cash, but it is about investing the money wisely in players and that can cost but then the rewards are greater. However long term if we go down and come back stronger and remain financially sound then of course I would take that, but I think the club should be honest if that is a plan they have in mind rather than try and dupe the fans with the hot air Moxey was spouting over the summer!
Lloydy; we have underachieved for years despite direct or indirect funding from Sir Jack and gates worthy of top flight football. How much longer do you want us to wait?Don’t forget it is worth a min of £30 million every year in the Prem and last but not least the football is better , with someof the finest players in the world. Some people have their houses repossessed but that is not a reason why we should all stop buying a house. We must have ambition otherwise the club will be a national laughing stock and we may as well sell Molineux to ASDA.

no 95 not sure who you would play in place of Doyle and SEB? – oh maybe you think keogh and Hoff up front would really frighten the spurs defence on saturday. Oh and doyles scored more than the two of them put together.
I am worried about the next two games because we easily beat a poor bolton side, and still conceded a very poor goal and then looked nervous at the end. We must improve defensively to have any chance in the next few games. Ward did really well for me, berra and Craddock do not inspire confidence.SEB like many other strikers from the championship is finding the step up hard to adjust to. He is struggling with the pace of the prem. Needs to do small things right and get his game going. You dont have to score goals to contribute to the team effort. Just holding the ball up and closing down defenders can really help.Against spurs i would play only one upfront, poss doyle, and play mancienne, castilllio and henry as defensive midfielders will miljas, and jarvis. Edwards is too lighweight in midfield and yes he gets in the box better that henry, castillo, but never looks like scoring, or causing a real problem.
Fantastic 3 points earned however the defence is somewhat to be desired. I do like Berra he had a decent game. We do need some prem beef in there though! Millijas was absolutely superb & what a goal!!!!!! Glad he has finally landed. Hehn in goal is the right choice as far as i am concerned he has confidence especially in coming for a ball. Wardy plenty of fight but again let down i think by others in our defence. seb mate you still aint go it i think you are good in the champship but struggle in this league, plymouth are lookin for a striker!!!. doyle is class and got good technical ability but was on his arse alot. i believe this boy will flourish with the right service and at the moment we have very limited players to give him such service. What has the Hoff said to McARTHY for him not to play him? that boy is gagging at the leash to get stuck in and what i have seen of him he is a right bloody handful. Again another one who would relish good service! Well done lads n best of luck next game i think you’ll need it.upon reading Moxeys comments the other day ref Morgan having sleepless nights, i can’t see it meself, another load of spin from Moxey again! Morgan may be a bit upset but the man who has joint say on the coffers, Moxey, ain’t havin sleepless nights, he sleeps soundlessly on a very fat wallet which he ain’t gonna open for no one folks. Bottom line is he wont pay prem wages. Sure i saw him the other day round w-ton market lookin for a bargin!!!!!
