Woman is badly hurt in accident

Friday 4th December 2009, 11:30AM GMT.

A woman was today fighting for her life after suffering head injuries in an accident on Wolverhampton’s ring road.

The 43-year-old was in a collision involving a Peugeot 307 on Ring Road St George’s near Sainsbury’s at 5.35pm yesterday. The female driver of the car was treated by paramedics at the scene for shock.

Both were taken by ambulance to New Cross Hospital.

The 43-year-old was today in a critical condition.

Police closed off the ring road between the Bilston Street Island and Snow Hill for more than three hours after the incident.

The closure created traffic jams leading onto the island during the rush hour, and cars were diverted along the St David’s Ring Road.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: “Two females were injured and were taken to hospital. The first woman was unconscious and suffered head injuries. The other was taken to hospital just for a check up.”

Police are asking witnesses to call 0845 1135000.
