A man living at the house was already out of the building when fire crews from Walsall and Bloxwich arrived and was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital to be checked over.

Four firefighters went into the house to put the flames out and crews remained on the scene into the evening yesterday. The fire did not spread to any other properties and no one was hurt.

Group commander Nigel Soden said: “Sixty per cent of the house was affected by fire and it was also badly smoke-logged.”
