Helen Chivers, from the Met Office, said: “We’ve had a few little ground frosts, but this is the first real air frost we have had.
“Temperatures really did dip last night, but this morning has been sunny and the day is set to stay dry until about 6pm.
“Today could be the best day of the week, because rain is set to move in this evening and we’ll see heavy showers.”
Meanwhile, some parts of northern England and Scotland are facing a potential blanket of snow in higher areas.
November looks set to go down as one of the wettest on record, forecasters said today.
Experts predict it could be the third or fourth wettest November since records began in 1914.
