Kightly will fire back warns Ward

Tuesday 1st December 2009, 9:59AM GMT.

WOLVES 17 SL 24Wolves defender Stephen Ward believes Michael Kightly will be a “devastating” force this season when the winger recovers from his injury hell.

The wide man lasted just over half an hour after coming off the bench in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat against Birmingham, before succumbing to an ankle injury, and now faces up to eight weeks out.

It’s the latest blow to hit the midfielder, who was taken out of the firing line last week because of his struggles with niggling injuries only to be brought back into contention by manager Mick McCarthy after training brilliantly.

Ward, who made his comeback from injury himself as a half-time substitute, feels Kightly will be a valuable asset once he recovers from his latest setback.

The Irishman said: “It’s devastating for him and for us because when Michael is on form, he makes such a difference to us.

“Last season he provided something like 19 assists and when we scored, he was usually involved. When he’s fully fit, he is devastating. I see him every day in training and he was looking absolutely brilliant last week.

‘It was just unfortunate that he got injured again, because I thought he was going to make a massive difference.”

Wolves were last season, and still are this season, a one man team.

The large run of games in the middle of last season when they couldn’t buy a win for love nor money coincided with Kightly being out injured.

As SEB is discovering this season: no Kightly, no supply.

1 man team, without Kightly we are an average team at best.

Is anyone else getting a tad fed up with this “lets praise our players up to the hilt” routine?
Henry for England, Mancienne best thing since sliced bread, Millijas will be great etc etc?

Wished they would do their talking on the pitch because at the moment they look so short of confidence it’s untrue!

Rant over I’ll be there on Saturday where I want to see a huge improvement
    come on you Wolves!

I disagree wardy…kightley is selfish and is out is depth, like most of the players/management (McCarthy/Oconner/Mountain) we need a new broom to brush through. Thanks Mccarthy for getting us up, but your decision making has proved your not good enough for this level, so before it is to late, step down and let Morgan get someone who will give us a fighting chance…

Perhaps there should be a Prozone league as well as Fairplay league.

I`m finding it hard to read all this rubbish after Saturdays awful display. Too many promises of what we are going to do or what might well happen. We have to face up to the fact that all of the early promise and confidence was misplaced. We look a shambles. Ill prepared for the division both on and off the field. Once again it seems that supporters have been short changed and told half truths. The people in charge now need to act before it is too late to save ourselves. The club looks out of its depth and needs an experienced hand on the tiller together with players who have the know how and experience to cope. We were humiliated on one nil on Saturday and that`s not good enough. Something has got to change and change quickly.

HOW MUCH MORE CAN WE TAKE…………

How many times have we read that ‘someone’ in the Wolves squad will make an impact on our season… We are nearly at chrstmas, and the only player who has impacted on our season is ELOKOBI when he fell over!!!!!!!!!!!!! (get it)

The more this season goes on the more we will all get more and more frustrated… Don’t get me wrong I love Micks honesty etc, etc, but he is paid to be our manager, not a t.v correspondent!!!

Time for the club to make it’s mind up… CAN ANYONE honestly say the muppets we have running the club want us in the Premier League??? I know EVERY SINGLE fan does…

So just who is Kites going to devestate ???

He did exactly “devestate in the championship – he aint the sort to tied people in knots or leave a full back on the floor.

Tired of the club wheeling out the flavour of the week to spin rubbish like this – do they think we are mugs ??

Last year we were a one man team – and SEB just aint good enough for this league.

Sorry everyone but I can’t see anything positive at the moment – just more spin from the board.

This is a bit of a random one to throw out there, but people keep talking about how we need some steel in midfield and some creativeness, as well as preiership experience. And we all know that moxey won’t pay for anyone that matchess that discripton. So what are people’s thoughts on Edgar Davids! He’s a free agent, has a great touch, prem experience, will scrap for the ball and also creative. I know he would need a bit of time to get match sharp and there are going to a few people that disagree with this but i think signing him up until the end of the season with an option of a 2nd year if he plays well wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world! He has also got to be better than what we have now!

This sort of headline is really not helpful against the background of what we saw on Sunday.
    It smacks of desperation.

The result against Blues was devastating, the manner of the defeat was devastating to the fans. Lets try to get players being ‘effective’ at this level before we talk of them being devastating.

I had hopes for this new season that we would at least do better than our last visit to the Premiership.Home form was and still will keep us up,but we lack belief and confidence.I like Big Mick and i am very grateful for his hard work in getting us up,BUT 52 PREMIERSHIP GAMES AND 5 WINS IS NOT A GOOD RECORD.We need to be honest, and so does Mick,we don’t have a rich Owner in Morgan,we have an accountant for a chief executive and NO FOOTBALL PEOPLE AT OUR CLUB THAT CARE ABOUT wOLVERHAMPTON wANDERERS FOOTBALL CLUB.For God’s sake wake up and smell the coffee,we need a Premiership manager who can GET PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS to join OUR Club. Then we might have a fighting chance to remain in this league and deliver top flight football year in year out.WE DESERVE THIS AT THE VERY LEAST.

9)baffled-Disagree-SEB is definiteley good enough for this league but has not had the support he had last season. He is no good with Doyle-he needs to play off of Steff the Chef or Iwelumo when fit.Even Torres would struggle to score when the ball is just lumped forward.Give SEB more support and he will score more goals than Doyle!

KITES HAS GOT THE SKILL BUT LACKS THE PACE TO BE A TRULEY OUTSTANDING PLAYER. HAVING SAID THAT I AM SURE IF HE WAS 100% HE WOULD GIVE US MORE AND WOULD DESERVE TO BE IN THE TEAM.

AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME OUR PROBLEM IS THE MANAGER AS HE IS OUT OF HIS DEPTH AT THIS LEVEL AND THE SOONER HE LEAVES THE BETTER CHANCE WE WILL HAVE OF SURVIVAL. HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING AS HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TEAM TO PICK EACH WEEK. THIS IS MADNESS!

Kightly actually started to look like his old self start of the second half with a couple of wing runs and crosses. Then he got injured.
The same can’t be said for young Jarvis. He was marked out of the game by a full back fresh out of retirement. He preferred to pass it back to Stearman, then Mancienne then Ward. Then the ball was played back and forth across the back line ’til one of them hoofed it into touch or over the heads of Doyle and Ebanks -Blake.
    Completely pointless !
