International film star Kelly McGillis, famed for her starring role alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun, was today announced as the latest celebrity who will be taking to the stage in Wolverhampton.
The actress will be performing at the Grand Theatre in a classic love story alongside actor Rolf Saxon who starred in Mission Impossible and Entrapment .
The pair will star in Terrence McNally’s Frankie & Johnny In the Clair De Lune from April 12 to 17 next year.
The show, set in 1980s New York, was originally an off-Broadway hit and spawned a film version starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer.
It has been unveiled as part of the Lichfield Street theatre’s packed programme. The programme also includes West End production The Hobbit, Toy Davies’ award-winning musical Come Dancing, the return of cult classic Rocky Horror Show, An Audience with The Chuckle Brother and Blood Brothers.
Singer and TV star Jane McDonald, a regular on TV panel show Loose Women, will also perform an evening of cabaret on May 23, while comedy favourite Brian Conley will star in this year’s musical showcase Hairspray. Grand Theatre spokeswoman Vicky Price said today: “It is a great season of shows, especially as Kelly McGillis will be performing.
“She holds a status as a Hollywood star and so it is fantastic that she will be coming to the Grand Theatre.
“It is a really exciting season and we are really looking forward to it.”
