Ince up for the battle

Saturday 28th November 2009, 11:55AM GMT.

clayton-inceClayton Ince admits the battle for the Walsall goalkeeping jersey is back on now Rene Gilmartin has returned from injury.

Ince was replaced by Gilmartin in September after going on international duty and failed to win his place back until the Irishman tore his hamstring last month.

Gilmartin returned in the reserves’ 3-3 draw at Albion on Wednesday, but Ince is determined to hold off his challenge.

“I’ve got my opportunity and want to take it,” said Ince. “The job is to perform well and make him work harder so the standard will go a notch higher.

“It’s good he wants to get his place back. Every player should have that ambition and not just sit back and not play.”
