Crews tackle big fire at unit
Saturday 28th November 2009, 10:28AM GMT.
More than 50 firefighters were today tackling a blaze which broke out at a vacant industrial unit in Willenhall.
Crews were called to the former George Carter (Pressings) Ltd unit in Park Road at 5.28am.
Plumes of smoke billowed from the brick and metal building and residents were being advised to keep their doors and windows closed.
West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Nigel Sowden said: “The fire is all under control. We are going through the stages of trying to extinguish it.
“We have got 10 fire engines and specialist units in attendance and the police and ambulance are here.”
Crews set up a special water relay system at the scene to make sure they had adequate water. Arson has not yet be ruled out.
Meanwhile a warehouse in Norton Canes was also destroyed by a large fire overnight. More than 20 firefighters battled the flames at the warehouse on Norton Green Lane at around 9.30pm last night.
