Masked knife robber found guilty
Friday 27th November 2009, 11:30AM GMT.
A masked man who attacked a Black Country newsagent with a knife during a bungled robbery at his shop has been convicted by a jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court of wounding him with intent.
Shopkeeper Harinder Singh Dhadli was stabbed in the head by Mark William Evans, aged 24, during the incident at Kendrick News, in Moxley, near Darlaston on June 13 this year.
He threatened Mr Dhadli, 54, and his wife and demanded money after entering the shop wearing a mask and carrying a knife.
But the couple fought back and Mr Dhadli suffered knife injuries to his hand in the scuffle, during which the couple unmasked Evans.
A jury yesterday found Evans, of Charnwood Close, Moxley, guilty of wounding with intent and attempted robbery. He had denied both offences but admitted unlawful wounding and having a bladed article.
He was remanded in custody until December 17 when he will be sentenced.
