Evans leaves Stourbridge for Telford
Friday 27th November 2009, 8:20AM GMT.
Stourbridge star Sean Evans has left the the War Memorial Ground and joined Telford ending speculation on his future.
The winger moved to the Bucks on a free transfer last night after League Two strugglers Grimsby stalled on a deal following a trial. The 22-year-old wasn’t on a contract at the War Memorial Ground so was available for nothing, but a friendly between the sides will be played next year.
Stourbridge boss Gary Hackett, believes with the guidance of manager Rob Smith and assistant Larry Chambers, Evans will blossom at the New Bucks Head.
He said: “I think he can play at that level no problems. Telford are a Conference North football club and they are a progressive club. I also know the manager and assistant manager very well, which helps.”
The former Manchester United trainee helped guide the Glassboys to the FA Cup first round, where they lost 1-0 to Walsall.
Hackett said: “Everyone wishes him well.”
Evans scored 12 goals before his departure and Hackett admits it will be a big loss but has no plans to bring someone in to replace him.
He said: “At present I will look within the squad. We have to remember the guys who have performed this year and they deserve an opportunity.”
