Albion offer shirts for hire
Friday 27th November 2009, 11:29AM GMT.
Albion have offered their shirts for hire for individual matches in a move that could lead to a unique game-by-game sponsorship scheme for the club.
The Baggies are ready to open talks with businesses over sponsoring their kit for one-off matches, as they look to recoup some lost income from 16 months without a main shirt sponsor, and hope a quartet of live televised matches before the end of February will help lure potential sponsors.
Albion’s shirts have been without a sponsor since their Championship triumph of 2008 apart from the opening game of this season, when they promoted England’s 2018 World Cup bid.
Finance director Mark Jenkins said: “The Football League has clarified that, under their rules, we are able to offer shirt sponsorship deals on a short-term, as well as the traditional long-term, basis. The first business to come forward and take advantage of this unique opportunity could make a little piece of footballing history.
“Ideally, we would like to team up with a long-term official club sponsor. But we are willing to sell our shirt sponsorship rights on a match-by-match basis.”
Albion will be live on Sky when they entertain QPR on December 14 and Nottingham Forest on January 8, when they travel to Newcastle on January 18 while the game at Bristol City on February 21 will be broadcast by the BBC.
