An RAC rescue worker has been crowned Young Mechanic of the Year.
Will Shepherd, of Oldbury, who has worked for RAC Patrol for four years, picked up the title in a BBC Three series.
It aims to find the best young talent in a range of professions. The 24-year-old father of one said: “It was an amazing experience. One of those once-in-a-lifetime things to do, even though it was really nerve-wracking. I got the result I wanted but I still couldn’t believe it. Being number one in the whole country is an amazing feeling.”
Will was pitted against hundreds of mechanics from around the country in the series. The final programme featured three rigorous challenges where the mechanics had to prove their passion and ambition in front of two expert judges. “One of the best things about my job is helping people in their hour of need,” he said.
“Everyday is different and it’s a challenge never knowing what sort of vehicle you might get called out to.”
Will’s boss Phil Ryan, head of roadside at RAC Patrol, added: “Will’s achievement is a fantastic affirmation of the exceptional talent we have in RAC and a clear indication that we really are the driving people.”
