Concert review: Stewart Lee,

Stewart Lee’s stand-up routine for this show was firmly rooted in the West Midlands.

He threw in jokes about “posh Solihull” and the old city centre record shops that made his home audience treat him like an old friend.

Lee is the other half of the offbeat duo Lee and Herring, and the man who penned Jerry Springer The Opera.

Clearly he is a fearless performer.

With his rapier wit delivered in a soft voice and with an earnest expression, he flits between sweet stories of his two-year-old son and his hatred of Top Gear’s Richard Hammond.

His audience clearly loves him, and he was not short of laughs.

He manages to squeeze every last drop of humour out of his jokes, and takes his time doing it.
