It’s screen appeal as 3,000 flock to cinema

Thursday 26th November 2009, 11:30AM GMT.

The boss of Cannock’s new cinema has hailed the venture a success after 3,000 people visited the venue in just over a week of its opening.

Fred Pritchard, owner of the Electric Palace Picture House, on Walsall Road, said the visitor numbers were way beyond expectations.

Mr Pritchard says he is now hopeful of installing a 3D and a digital screen at the cinema due to the tremendous support which has been given.

From opening night on November 13 to November 22 some 3,000 people passed through the cinema doors.

Mr Pritchard said: “It really has been an amazing response from the people of the district.

“I asked them to support the new cinema and they haven’t let me down. We had 3,000 people come along in just over a week of its opening which is just fantastic and beyond my expectations.”

The cinema has been showing the blockbuster films of 2012 and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, along with children’s favourites, Fantastic Mr Fox and Up.

In the coming weeks it will also showcase A Christmas Carol, Nativity which features seven-year-old Cannock actor Ben Wilby, and blockbuster Avatar. The former Picture House cinema had closed in 2004.
