WD3490826@Golfwin 2 (emailA golfer who has only just started to play the sport has won a year’s membership worth more than £400 at Cannock Park Golf Course.

Cannock Chase Council teed up the great offer at its golf course on Stafford Road – everyone who played the course in August and September was entered into a prize draw to win the annual membership.

There were 4,108 entries – and the winner was Mick Cole from Cannock.

The 53-year-old, who only took up golf a few months ago, said: “I was amazed to win the competition. I’m really looking forward to using the course regularly now to improve my game. I’ve been playing twice a week since winning the competition.”

National Club Golfer magazine called Cannock Park “one of the best municipal courses in the Midlands” in its August edition. The undulating 18-hole parkland course is 5,150 yards long and a par 67 and provides a good test for golfers of all levels and abilities.

There is a nine-hole practice putting area and trolleys can be hired.

Councillor Mick Grocott, Cannock Chase Council’s portfoloio holder for culture, sport and services for children and young people, said: “I am delighted that so many golfers entered the competition and I would like to congratulate Mr Cole on winning the prize.

“Cannock Park Golf Course is one of the best in the Midlands. It’s a great facility for the district and offers real value for money. The prize draw was a real incentive for those who hadn’t used the course before to see just how impressive it is.”

The course offers pay-per-play sessions costing from £8.05 for adults and £3.50 for children. Memberships start at £12.10 per month.

Concessions are also available for Chase Card holders, with a 50 per cent discount available.

Corporate packages are also available, as well as corporate and society days, with coffee and tea on arrival and lunch in the 19th hole.

Located behind Chase Leisure Centre on Stafford Road, Cannock, Cannock Park Golf Course is open 364 days a year, from 7.30am to dusk in the summer months, and is open to all.
