Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Albion trial giant young striker
Tuesday 24th November 2009, 11:30AM GMT.
Albion have offered another young giant striker the chance to make his name in English football.
The club have taken Vancouver Whitecaps forward Marcus Haber on trial now that his MSL season has come to a close.
It is a second attempt by the 19-year-old, having already had an unsuccessful pre-season trial with Leeds United a year ago which came to nothing.
The youngster is another powerhouse forward at 6ft 3in and a cruiserweight’s 190lbs (13.5st) and could offer yet another powerful young physique to Albion’s front options in the wake of Chris Wood’s breakthrough.
Although born in Vancouver, Haber holds both Austrian and Canadian citizenship and launched his career with Dutch Eredivisie club FC Groningen but left at the end of the 2007/08 season.
Otherwise, Albion have been distancing themselves from the relentless transfer speculation engulfing the club as January draws ever nearer.
The club have now rubbished reports that they will be among the bidders to take up Sir Alex Ferguson’s offer to hire out another of his young guns, midfielder Rodrigo Possebon, when he is brought back from an unsuccessful spell with Portugal outfit Sporting Braga in the New Year.
Claims in Romania that a deal has now been completed for Albion to take long-standing target Gabriel Tamas have also been denied by the club.
But Tamas, currently on loan with Dinamo Bucharest but whose registration is held by Auxerre, is a target and expected to be one of the club’s January recruits.
The good news for Albion today is that the injury to Joe Mattock is not as bad as was feared when he was stretchered out of the Bristol City match after half an hour on Saturday.
Medical checks and X-rays have confirmed there is no break around the ankle and instep area which was damaged – and Mattock has not even been ruled out of being available for this weekend.
But heavy bruising is likely to mean Marek Cech will get another chance to take advantage of Mattock’s misfortune.

How is 6’3″ a giant? I’d eat him for breakfast!

It can’t hurt for Cech to get another game, I just hope that if he plays well again he isn’t dropped for the next match as happened under TM. That really seemed to unsettle him last season.

I think Cech is better than Mattock anyway so it could work out well, although i would not wish an injury on anyone. I just hope if Cech plays and he plays well, he is’nt dropped when Mattock is back fit again. TM loved doing that to him!
Fingers crossed this Haber is another Jara or Koran and he turns out to be a gem!

Haber looks a very good player, strong, fast and skillful. He has 2 good feet and is very good with his head. His positional sense is brilliant for his age.He makes good runs and knows how to find his team mates. His decision making his good and unselfest. He does’nt get bullied off the ball and can tackle. All at the age of 19 and he will only get better. He is going to be a STAR!BOING BOING BAGGIES.

I think mattock has come into his own in the last couple of games. Started to play quite well. And does anyone else think that having a canadian player is quite odd, becuase they aren’t known for their awesome players are they. Apart from peschi all others are unknown.

Wow, AlbionTID, if he’s that good why haven’t the big boys come calling, Lol. I do hope you’re right though. Just imagine a Derek ‘The Tank Engine’ Kevan roaming the Hawthorns hallowed turf once again. Watching his bursts used to scare the c**p out of me let alone the opposition. Chris., I like Mattock a lot as he is developing into one fine player. We’re just lucky we have Cech to call on. There hasn’t been one bad buy yet in my view although one or two youngsters may have to wait a while. Look at the stick Bruntie has had off the fickle moaners, yet his taking of that pass to score his goal on Saturday could not have been bettered by anyone. Absolute class! The whole business of WBA is confident and professional.

So Leeds didnt want him and deemed him not good enough but we’ll take him? The MLS is equivalent to our league 2 and all the older players go there for one last pay day. Lets hope he’s better than Cox and Luke ‘I’m too good for albion’ Moore. Still undecided about Mattock lacks the pace needed for that position bring in Cech.

Loffin’Fowl has more aliases than 007, but there’s hope, his brain has been shaken, not stirred. He must spend some time in enemy territory too. He certainly talks more about our players than the Wulfie ones although his assessments probably match his financial advice, negative. Mattock may well make the England squad in time. You read it here Loffin’.
