Man shot dead on night out

Police block off, High Street, Bilston.A man has been shot dead and another injured after trouble flared at a notorious nightclub in the Black Country.

It is the second shooting near Tropical Harmony in High Street, Bilston in 14 months. In today’s incident two men were found with gunshot wounds at 4.30am. One of the men later died from his injuries.

The other man is still in hospital although his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Part of the High Street has been sealed off and business inside the cordon were closed while police carried out forensic inquiries.

Around 50 people were in the club when trouble flared. Twenty police officers were at the scene this morning.

The High Street from supermarket Lidl to Bilston Bathrooms on the corner of Dudley Street had been cordoned off. Forensics officers were seen going into the club and a police tent was set up at the back of the Trumpet Live Jazz Bar.

West Midlands Police spokesman David Hodgetts said: “We are appealing for witnesses to a double shooting that happened in Wolverhampton.

“Officers were called to Tropical Harmony nightclub at around 4.30am. Two men were found with gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital where one of the men died.”

West Midlands Ambulance spokesman John Hawker said: “Crews found a man with serious multiple injuries. He was given advanced life-support at the scene. Unfortunately, nothing could be done and he was confirmed dead shortly after arriving at hospital.”

Today’s attack is the latest shooting at the club where three people were shot in September last year.
