Hole lot of trouble for Daisy
Friday 20th November 2009, 10:30PM GMT.
An adventurous kitten had to be rescued by nine firefighters from a tiny three-inch gap outside her home in Wolverhampton.
Four-month-old Daisy sparked the drama after becoming trapped between two garages in Beech Road, Oxley.
Owner Julie Burke, aged 39, said today: “I heard her purring between our garage and the neighbour’s. The houses look like they’re attached to each other, that’s how narrow the gap is.”
Mrs Burke, a technical assistant at a financial advice company, has owned Daisy since she was 10 weeks old. After being unable to free the cat herself, the mother-of-two was forced to call the RSPCA, which drafted in West Midlands Fire Service and its technical rescue unit from Beacon Hill, Birmingham.
Some of the bricks were removed and the wall was reinforced to prevent it from collapsing. A camera was also inserted down the gap to ensure Daisy was safe.
Nearly four hours later on Tuesday, Daisy was finally freed and sent to a vet for two nights’ observation. She is now back home.
The RSPCA’s animal collection officer Elaine Williams said: “It was a tricky job for us to get her out as she had wriggled around, probably in panic.”
