Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
We must stick together orders Mick
Thursday 19th November 2009, 10:59AM GMT.
Mick McCarthy has ordered the ‘Wolves family’ to stay together and embrace the fight of staying in the Premier League.
The team go into Saturday’s huge test at leaders Chelsea lodged in the relegation zone for the first time this season after their 4-1 defeat against Arsenal before the international break.
But boss McCarthy wants fans and players alike to welcome the challenge together and scrap like hell to ensure survival.
He said: “If we stay together and be calm about things, don’t have a knee-jerk reaction and panic we’ll be OK.
“We’re down there and we’ve got to get out of it, but there’s something about being in there and fighting to get out as opposed to being just a point above and dreading going in it.
“It’s like you go into a game feeling ‘oh no, if we get beat, we’ll drop into the bottom three’ which is a negative thought.
“We just have to keep fighting and scrapping and that won’t change.”
McCarthy admits Wolves are more than likely to still be in the bottom three on Saturday night.
But the manager stressed they must pick up points when Wolves collide with the ‘Three Bs’ – starting with Birmingham at Molineux the following Sunday.
He said: “We could be sat like Burnley on 16 points and would all feel a lot better about ourselves. Anybody who wants to get really upset about being in the bottom three now – well the odds are we’ll still be there on Saturday when we play Chelsea.
“I’m not saying we will be, but the odds are that we’ll be there. Our opportunity will come against teams that we should be competing against and then we need to win.”
McCarthy repeated his feeling from their poor run last season, that what Wolves ended up with was the most important factor.
He said: “I kept saying last year that things can turn. When we had a bad run and everyone was upset I just said ‘let’s see what we end up with’.”
McCarthy insists George Elokobi is back in his thoughts after resting him for Richard Stearman against Arsenal.
The Wolves boss added: “They’re all in the squad for Saturday. We’ll find out if George plays then.”

Big George needs to stay on the bench!

Mick please dont play george at left back we need to play stearman again in that position!!

We will beat Birmingham they are a tinpot club with tinpot owners. Bolton and burnly are little northern clubs and should be easy meat. All three are only slightly bigger than them down the road. I think we will get at least a point from Chelsea they are another little club punching above there wait. We are Wolves we are a massive club and only bad luck has kept us back. Let’s attack Chelsea with Doyle and SEB playing off Hoff and Keogh behind. See how good they are under that bombardment.
10 points from 4 games europa cup here we come.

We will stick together but don’t worry Mick Jody will do it for you and if Dave Edwards can score one like he did for Wales that will be good as well. Just tell the lads to play like they did against Arsenal for the first 20 mins for a lot longer and we will come through. I will be there cheering you all on. Good luck ‘Come on the Wolves We believe in You well i do anyway

Funny how fans are slating Big George after a couple of bad games when at the start of the season they we’re calling him in to play instead of Ward at left back.
I wonder how many fans will be calling for Keogh when Doyle has a couple of bad games. No-one i guess.

Big George needs to act as a ‘big bench warmer’ for this one I think.
I love the heart and the passion, but against Chelsea we will need to keep hold of the ball as much as possible. George’s distribution doesn’t allow that to happen.
Until that improves, it’s bench time.
No not not! George needs to play more reserve games and then see how he gets on. I am not convinced he is ready for the Premier league right now. I would have Stearman or Mancienne in before Elokobi.
LETS KEEP POSITIVE AS THERE IS A LONG WAY TO GO AND THERE WILL BE LOTS OF TWISTS AND TURNS BEFORE THE END OF THE SEASON.
Chelsea season ticket holder has given me his ticket for Saturday as he is going to Twickers, so if you see a lone Wolves fan getting kicked out of the Chelsea section- ITS ME!
Stearman must play (I’d prefer Mancienne but he can’t play against his parent club), George is too much of a liability. Mick should consider sending him on loan for the rest of the season to get more experience.
Since he came to us he’s played about 15 games in the championship, so has very little experience of that league and needs to prove himself at that level before he should be considered to play in the premiership.

can we please go and get some premier expeirence in jan!!! ie, big sol.vassell, nolan, smith, then we might have a chance of avoiding the fizzy pop league

3. I can reassure you that is not me but however I do like your positivity and they are only a bit bigger than the albion! Not sure about Chelsea being a small club though! 3 home wins and we will be sat in mid-table for xmas, lovely! WE ARE WOLVES.

Here is a quirky thought. Full backs v arsenal – is it only me who thinks right footed players are best at right back and left footed players……..
Anyone like to comment on the lunatic team selection?
Everyone will stick together if you start getting the tactics right Mick and stop playing square pegs in round holes.
The Hoff must start with Halford in on the right and Jarvis back in on the left of a 5 man midfield with Castillo, Edwards and Henry in the middle. No place for Doyle recovering from last night or Ebanks who has looked a muppet at this level.
Bob Wolf will be there on Saturday and will bring you his usual honest view on the game by Monday morning. Everyone should be expecting a huge Chelsea win.

Stop blaming individual players, face it , we are not good enough to be in the Premiership…the players are playing every week to their potential, and I for one would not blame any one player for our present position.
When we were promoted Wolves management were advised that their success in the Championship with the team that they had, would not hold up in the ‘big time’
The Wolves management heard the advice and like the last time we were promoted, elected to do their own thing, spend as little as possible, and hope for the best.
We picked up half a dozen new players from around the globe, for less than a total of 20 million, and lets face it have got what we paid for…..
Milijas…Seen better years
Hannermann….was and has never made the cut
Halford…Can throw the ball a mile but a very ordinary player
Surman/castello….Finding premiership too difficult
Doyle…Good player, great potential but not with Wolves
On the other hand Birmingham have purchased some real winners, and after watching them this season, will not be one of the teams going down.
It may well be too late now. maybe not,but unless we can pick up some match winners players not afraid to shoot for goal at 20yards, players that can work with Doyle’s individual style in the January window, Wolves are morals to go under.
To stay up, the Management has to be ruthless, and while I am sure that many will not agree with me there are several players, Wolves should sell in the january window to generate some revenue.
1. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake does not fit in to Wolves structure, and the Premiership is far too fast for him..should raise $3-$4 million from a Championship club
2. Chris Ololomo…is basicly finished thanks to Carsley from Birmingham last season, he will never aspire to the Premiership and could interest a Championship team for about $2million
2. Michael Kightly..is not going to returnto form of a couple of seasons back, and should be sold for whatever we can get for him
3.Hennersey…should appeal to many clubs and we could realise some 3-4million, by bringing back Ickerme as our first choice keeper
I for one would not continue paying Chelsea on loan player Mancinee, who is the highest paid player on the Wolves payroll, and see him off.
With what we have left plus some decent signings in January may save us from the drop, but it may be too late.
One canonly hope that McCarthy sees the light and steps aside for someone that can do the job

Some of you are MORONS!!!
Why not put your energy into supporting the lads rather than calling for the managers (and different players) heads…
THE ONE PERSON WHO SHOULD TAKE THE BLAME IS MORGAN… why can’t people see this!!!!!!!
MORGAN bought the club with the promise that he would spend 20 million on players to get us to the Premier League, well he has spent the 20 million WHEN we are in the premier league… I’m sorry but this is nowhere near enough as is being proved at the moment… NO-ONE on here ever mentions this fact…
He has bought a club on the CHEAP, made a good bit of money out of getting us Promoted, and is now trying to stay in the Premiership on a shoe string… Mick has done wonders with what he has been given… Granted a couple of the signings he has made have not worked for us SO FAR, but they still have time to prove us wrong…
We have got to back Mick as he is the best thing that has happened to the club since Steve Bull signed… YES his record in the Premier League is rubbish, but what has he got to work with???
MORGAN STEP UP TO THE PLATE AS YOU PROMISED JACK HAYWARD…

14 – Why dont you just support the Blues as you seem to be licking their bum.
How long did you waste of your life writting that absolute drivel

No. 15 – I have no idea if you really are a Wolves fan but I suggest you take a good look at how names are spelt on the official website, it would do you no harm whatsoever!
As for Wolves at Chelsea – yes we all know it a bummer of a game for us and in the cold light of day, we should have no chance of winning but then again who gave us any hope of beating Man. Utd the last time we were in the Prem? Anything can happen at this level and sometimes it does. All we Wolves fans can ask of the players is, give it 100% and maybe
‘Lady Luck’ will give us a helping hand just for once?
As for the so-called fan who says that Burnley are only a small club compared to ours, Burnley fans would not agree I’m sure but remember they gained promotion just as we did and to put them down as you have done could see you end up with egg on your face in a week or so’s time!

15… Holmes
Who the heck is Ololomo?? Why would anyone pay us in dollars for one of our players?? And who on earth are Ickerme and Mancinee???

Funniest thing I have ever read on here…take a bow son, can always rely on Sandwell Town for a laugh.
DorransLovesBrom said: Nov 19th, 2009 at 2:08 pm Its taken Albion 10 years and 5 managers for us
to beable to attract the sort of players we can
today,it will take Wolves that amount of time for
them to get anywhere near us both in terms of
quality of squad and manager.
Wolves may be in the Prem at the moment but you
can see the difference between Albions class
and the Wolves poor lack of it,the things that
will send them down are NO1.NO CUTTING EDGE,
NO2.NO LEADERS, NO3.NO STEEL, and
NO4.NO CREATIVITY.
Cox (Swindon), Reid (Rotherham), Mattock (Leicester), Jara (south american club) I would wait ten years to attract this sort of quality too! After albion finishing BOTTOM last season and their manager leaving along with their Captain and best defender somehow taking advice from the Tescos is extremely amusing, quality! The only thing you will be waiting ten years for is a sponsor and a decent crowd!

£42,000 a week!!!

Yes we need to stick together. A valient job performancewise so far but the lack of good scoring opportunities has been the major problem. We need somehow to feed our strikers more quickly with better crosses and/or through balls to hopefully increse our percentage chances. If we don’t sort this by the New year then I reckon we’ll return to the Championship – which wouldn’t worry me personally as I hate everything the Premiership stands for!
Wolves for ever – wherever they may be!!

I think we need a reality check here folks! Birmingham are only 2 points above Wolves and yet people are suddenly painting them as survivors, sorry to `rain on your parade` guys but look at the table closely there are just single points seperating the bottom teams last year at the same stage of the season Middlesborough was clear and Tottenham & Fulham looked doomed this is the poorest premiership for years Wolves will have plenty of chances this season to survive – we had all this last season “Reading are going to run away with the league and Blues have bought experience and we are going to miss out in the play offs” stop panicking just stick with the team and enjoy the ride!!!!

26 – short basic course in book-making. 11/8 indicates that 11 times out of 19 we will stay up. i.e. we are more likely to stay up than not. Given that bookies are not known for their generosity then presumably it is more like 3/4. This sounds pretty good to me.
If you are so certain we are set for relegation then I suggest you put all your worldly goods on it.

I find it quite strange that MM has suddenly sent FOLEY to the scrap heap he is a better player than any he has picked at full back.
We missed our chance in the summer when we could have signed HUDDLESTONE for 8 mil but we only would pay 6 mil. Still what do you expect from the managment we have then go out and buy some ordinary players for 20 Mil
Report abuse
40) Foley has had injury problems and he is sure to get back in soon. Huddlestone was paper talk. I do not think that Spurs ever said that they were getting rid of him and you will find that there were other sides like Villa linked with him in any case.
