Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Mick focusing on Three Bs battles
Wednesday 18th November 2009, 1:15PM GMT.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today declared the club’s impending battles against the ‘Three Bs’ ‘must-win’ games after admitting avoiding defeat at Chelsea would be a bonus.
McCarthy takes his side to the Premier League leaders on Saturday knowing they have been largely written off for the Stamford Bridge clash before three crunch home games against Birmingham, Bolton and Burnley before Christmas.
Chelsea go into the weekend five points clear at the top after a six-match unbeaten run that has seen them score 20 goals with just two against.
The awesome home strength of Carlos Ancelotti’s side is underlined by nine successive clean sheets at Stamford Bridge going back to Stephen Hunt’s opener in their 2-1 win over Hull in August.
Despite the huge challenge awaiting them in west London, Wolves’ will have one eye on the teams around them.
Birmingham, who are the next visitors in 11 days’ time, are four places and two points ahead of second-bottom Wolves, while Bolton, who arrive on December 5 and have a game in hand, are three spots and a point clear of the Molineux men.
And McCarthy admitted: “I think it (Premier League future) will be decided on those games and the others against that bracket of clubs.
“If we go to Chelsea and get something that would be brilliant, but it would be a real bonus because no one thinks we’ll get anything there.
“Our next two home games, Birmingham and Bolton, are the ones we have to win. People thought we’d get points out of West Ham, Portsmouth, Hull at home and the return games away – and they will be vital for us.
“It’s alright saying we need to get our teeth into them, but there will be huge expectation and pressure on those games. But we’re not playing them, we’re playing Chelsea.”
