Edwards sad as Lampard out
Wednesday 18th November 2009, 11:29AM GMT.
Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards today revealed his “disappointment” at missing out on the chance to face Frank Lampard against Chelsea on Saturday.
Edwards believes Lampard is the best player in the world at grabbing goals from arriving late in the box.
But the England international’s absence due to a thigh injury is the latest blow to hit the Premier League leaders, who are already without full-backs Jose Bosingwa and Ashley Cole as well as star striker Didier Drogba and are sweating on captain John Terry (ankle) and midfielder Michael Ballack (infected knee).
Far from being daunted by the prospect of facing Lampard, 23-year-old Edwards would have preferred to have the tested himself against the best. “Personally I want to play against the top players and would have liked to test myself against Frank Lampard,” said the Wales international.
“Lampard is probably the best in the world at arriving late from midfield and scoring goals.
“He’s a player I’ve always admired, him and Steven Gerrard are the best two British players at getting in the box and scoring goals.
“I do watch a lot of his play and see how he makes his runs because he always seems to come in during the second phase for the knockdowns and does it ever so well.”
Edwards has made light of Lampard’s absence, insisting Chelsea will bring in players just as strong despite their casualties. “It will be a disappointment for them to miss him, but they’ve got such a great squad that it will be another top player coming in,” he said.
“They’ve got a few injuries, but they’ve got so much quality in their squad that it will still be extremely difficult.
“No one will expect us to get a win or indeed even a point, so there’s no pressure on us as try and produce an upset.
“There’s no point being in this league if we don’t go there thinking we can get a result.
“We all wanted promotion to this league for games like these and worked extremely hard to get here. We don’t want to just lie down and be beaten easily and also have to try to be attack-minded and catch them out if possible.”

Aye, we got to go and enjoy it, I dont expect us to get anything but they have alot of players out – Bosingwa, Terry, Cole, Ballack, Lampard but still have alot of quality, Drogba and Anelka up top is quality. I would play 1 up top in either Keogh or Hoff.

Wolves can prevail and stay in PL if they continue to show conviction, belief and confidence that they are more than capable to take on any team.
There is no point in self-defeatism and low esteem when meeting the so called the Top 4 team or any team for that matter.
You are what you made of yourself and if you think you stand no chance in any game, then that is half the battle lost.
Onwards the Wolves and in darkness cometh light.

YEAH EDDY!!! SURE…..
I’m gutted that Drogba, Lampard ect are injured… Hopefully they won’t call in Jimmy Floyd back from retirement… We all remember how he loved playing against the Wolves!!!
As a fan going to Chelski (wrap up warm) I can’t wait… Be nice to see our boys against the best team in Europe at the moment… Like Eddy said above, no pressure equals no fear… You never know what can happen…

It’s irrespective who is out injured as the likes of Chelsea and Man U have £15/20 million pound players on the bench.
We definitely need to play a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 and I would go with:-
Hennessey Zubar Berra Craddock Stearman Edwards Henry Castillo Milijas Kites/Jarvis Doyle

Good to hear Dave Jones is on his way back to fitness. Away games with Castillo and Henry covering he could be a good option. Be a freak result if we won but we got to enjoy it.

Shame Chelsea have so many injures cause we may well have had more chance against their strongest team. Their replacements are all 15M/20M players who will try and make the most of the opportunity to establish themselves in Chelsea’s first team & will certainly be fired up to play their best… whoever the opposition is. Do you really think Drogba & co would have been as fired up against a team in the relegation zone?

this (if whats been said is true)is about as good a chance as we’ll have of getting something from a top 4 side.fair enough i know they’ve got a lot of quality on the bench but any team which loses key players like cole, bosingwa, lampard, terry and drogba is gonna struggle and that many changes to a team will upset their flow deffo, lets get at em wolves.my line up; hanneman, mancienne, craddock, stearman, zubar, henry, milijasjarvis, keough, mairhoffer and blake. before anyone says thats a lot of changes i think these changes for us are essential and it needs freshening up a bit.we aren’t the smooth running machine that chelsea are but with this line up we’d have a decent chance of getting something hopefully!

11. Mancienne cant play mate. Id still go for 4-5-1 and switch to 4-4-1-1 when attacking Keogh or Maierhoffer have to start to hassle their defence. Bad news Terry, Ballack, Ashley Cole (fantastic misses!) look like they will make it.
Read on the net that Wolves will sign Joe Ledley, Jack Wilshere (loan) and Michael Johnson in Jan. Young and hungry got us here lets keep that along those lines and stay up with the youngest squad in the prem.

12) Although I picked a team earlier, I was seriously mulling over the merits of having Keogh back and you could be right.
The potential signings mentioned would be perfect. I certainly do not want to be looking at Simeon Jackson at £1.5 million+. He is unproven and no better than what we have already!
