Richards brushes off boo boys
Monday 16th November 2009, 11:20AM GMT.
Walsall winger Matt Richards has brushed off criticism from the boo-boys and targeted more goals to add to his maiden strike for the club.
The former Ipswich man, who has been a target for the frustration of some supporters, opened his goalscoring account with a stunning free-kick in the 2-0 win over Stockport on Saturday.
Richards insists his critics will not affect his football, after setting his sights on helping Chris Hutchings’ side mount a play-off push.
The 24-year-old said: “I am here to play football and that’s the most important thing. I am here to work for the team and for my team mates and that is very important.
“The crowd have been getting behind the team very well and that’s important, but regardless of what happens it doesn’t bother me. I am going to play the same game, no matter what.
“The manager has shown a lot of faith in me and all of the management and players have helped me along the way. Hopefully I can score a few more goals. That’s the idea anyway.
“If we can continue the run we’re on we’re going to be there or thereabouts.”

Boo boys?
A few disgruntled moans at a player who regularly pulls out of 60:40 balls in his favour is hardly “boo boys”.
All players go through lean spells but as long as they’re still giving 100% then by and large the crowd stay behind that player.
When a player is regularly seen not be giving his all then he should expect a few disgruntled comments from those that pay good money to watch him play.

Either he has not been fit ?..or our Management team saw something in Matt that has so far eluded most of us.
However we are a patient lot & Saturday was certainly an improvement from him.

tinned to back up your quote I think if you look at (legend) Jorge Leitao he had dips and peaks in his form during his spell but always gave 100% hence why he’s a legend!

I think you will find that Matt earns half what Jorge did! Now that is no excuse granted, but I think he has something and should be allowed to settle in………..come on Saddelrs fans the team are trying, it’s time we all got behind the 11 players on the pitch. UTS!

Why pick out Leitao to compare with Richards???
For what its worth I thought he looked half decent in his first few games, but I think he’s looked more like a left back who can play a bit in midfield rather than a genuine wideman. I also think he’s been restricted by being asked to do a defensive job at times.
And his distribution at Stourbridge was shocking.
