Perfect 10 is key duo’s aim
Wednesday 11th November 2009, 12:15PM GMT.
Midfield duo Graham Dorrans and Youssouf Mulumbu have kicked off an Albion goals race which they hope can fire the Baggies back to the Premier League.
The pair are fighting to be first to 10 goals as Roberto Di Matteo’s promotion-chasers continue to spread goals throughout the team.
Dorrans, who has four to his name in all competitions this season, and three-goal Mulumbu are among 15 different Albion players to have found the net.
And Dorrans revealed today: “Myself and Youssouf have a bit of banter in training. He’s said he’ll get 10, I said I’ve said I’ll get 10, so hopefully we can both get there.
“We will be trying. Confidence is high at the moment and hopefully I can keep scoring.”
However, Mulumbu is facing a fight for his first-team place from Chile international Gonzalo Jara, who was preferred alongside Dorrans at Leicester on Saturday and opened his own goalscoring account.
Dorrans said: “He’s been great. He doesn’t speak much English and I’m sure it has been pretty hard for him.
“I can’t imagine myself going to a country where I couldn’t speak the language and doing as well as he has.
“He’s done really well and his goal on Saturday was a great finish.
“His technique is there, he has great ability on the ball and he can only improve. It will be good to see him in the coming weeks because I’m sure he’ll get even better.
“It’s great having people like him or Youssouf next to me. It gives you a licence to get forward when you know people like that are behind you to protect you.”
Dorrans was today in Glasgow training with Scotland ahead of their friendly with Wales in Cardiff on Saturday while most of his Baggies team mates were in La Manga.
And the young midfield man says his confidence is high after his second goal in as many games at Leicester.
He said: “I’m feeling confident, I’ve had a good run of games under my belt and I feel good.
“Hopefully I can keep on scoring. If I can score every week I don’t care how they go in.
“It was important to win at Leicester. It was massive. They’ve been flying high and beating them sets a good tone for us, especially going into a break.
“The boys will be in La Manga and hopefully enjoy it and train hard as well then we’ll all get back and prepare for the game next weekend.”
