Milijas no luxury insist team-mates

WOLVES V REAL VALLADOLID 3 GD 08Wolves playmaker Nenad Milijas is no luxury – that’s the view of his team-mates.

The midfielder served up sumptuous delivery in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat against Arsenal – after being rewarded with his first start since September 12 – following on from his substitute role in setting up Jody Craddock’s double a week earlier at Stoke.

That made it three successive goals the Serbian international had set up after teeing up Michael Kightly to win the penalty in the 1-1 draw against Villa.

But the player’s defensive side of his game was exposed for the Gunners’ third and fourth goals, which seemed to underline a concern over his work-rate.

Yet Milijas’s Wolves team-mates believe he has adapted to the Premier League and is worthy of his place in the team.

Fellow midfielder Dave Edwards said: “Everyone can see Nenad has got great quality which he showed at the start of the season. He’s had to adapt to the English game but over the last couple of weeks, he’s adapted well.

“He came on against Stoke and did well and got his start against Arsenal and did well. Hopefully he can continue his good form and create some chances for us.”

Craddock benefitted from Milijas’s superb delivery at the Britannia Stadium nine days ago and believes the former Red Star Belgrade man gives Wolves something different.

The defender said: “His left foot is fantastic and he did well when he came on – he gave us exactly what we needed at that time, which was to get a goal.

“Coming early in the second half, it made Stoke wobble a bit and it gave us the impetus to get something from the game. He came out of the team but he’s proved he can cut it in the Premier League because on Saturday, his quality was fantastic.

“It’s certainly a bonus for people like me who want to attack the ball.”
